Super Gene Hunting Ground

David’s apprenticeship to Yang Xiao was known only to Luo Meng. Before the stationmaster himself announced it, Luo Meng naturally wouldn’t be talkative.

The rest were truly shocked by David’s announcement.

Yang Xiao had followed Luo Meng and had been resting at the base for some time, and many had seen Yang Xiao, recognized him somewhat, and knew that Yang Xiao was a miner under Luo Meng’s command.

And now David was telling everyone that he had taken a miner as his master?

Was the stationmaster playing a joke on us? Was he planning to learn how to mine?

Of course, since David referred to Yang Xiao as his master, so be it.

David saw everyone’s surprised expressions as he had expected and smiled slightly before introducing again:

”From today on, Master Yang is my master. In the future, you all should show some respect to Master Yang, or else you’ll be disrespecting me, David.”

After being stupefied for a moment, some quick-witted people were the first to react and bowed to Yang Xiao:

”Greetings, Master Yang!”

”Greetings, Master Yang!”

”Congratulations to the stationmaster for finding a great master.”

(Of course, the person who said this also didn’t know how Yang Xiao became David’s master, and even less about what area Yang Xiao excelled in to become David’s master.)

...

A chorus of compliments filled the air.

Yang Xiao smiled and nodded at everyone in response.

David gestured for everyone to quiet down.

”Right, after yesterday’s competition, there were 17 survivors. Today, the competition will continue, and since I’m competing today, that makes 18. Yesterday, after Captain Luo defeated Yuri, he didn’t participate in the drawing and became the odd one out among 17. That’s perfect, he can just have a match against me.”

Luo Meng stood in the crowd and almost fainted on the spot when he heard this.

Damn it, I knew nothing good would come of this. Why do I feel like my eyelid has been twitching nonstop? The stationmaster going against me, how can I even compete? Let alone me, anyone else would just be filler.

Everyone immediately turned their sympathetic gazes to Luo Meng and burst into laughter.

Luo Meng forced a smile and said:

”Stationmaster, can I just admit defeat voluntarily?”

”No way, the competition is all about participation. Since I joined suddenly, breaking the original schedule for everyone, how about this: anyone who reaches the final to compete against me can get a reward of 2 million Crystal Coins, and the remaining 8 winners of this round each get a reward of 100,000 Crystal Coins. How’s that?”

It’s not a lot of money, but it’s a token of appreciation, a little bonus for everyone.

The hall immediately erupted with applause and cheers.

Nine pairs of competitors went into action at the same time.

You don’t need to ask about the result of Luo Meng’s battle against David – half an hour later, Luo Meng actively conceded the game. After more than an hour of intense battles, the remaining eight pairs also decided their winners and losers.

David accompanied Yang Xiao to watch the other people’s matches, and after the event dispersed, David played two more rounds alone with Yang Xiao. Yang Xiao took the opportunity to explain some Go problems before excusing himself to rest.

David arranged a new room for Yang Xiao within the base, next to his own.

Just after Yang Xiao entered the room and was about to settle down to cultivate the Genetic Transformation Technique, there was a knock at the door. Opening it, he saw a rather dignified-looking woman standing at the entrance.

Yang Xiao was startled,

”Who are you?”

”Greetings, Master Yang. The stationmaster has arranged for me to serve you. From now on, my task is to serve Master Yang exclusively.”

Yang Xiao understood what this meant and said with a light smile:

”You may go back, miss. I’m used to being on my own and not accustomed to being served by others.”

Having said that, Yang Xiao was about to close the door.

The woman quickly put her hand on the edge of the door and urgently said:

”Master Yang, wait, may I come in and talk?”

After speaking, her eyes conveyed a sincere plea.

Yang Xiao hesitated for a moment, then nodded.

The woman immediately stepped into Yang Xiao’s room and closed the door behind her.

”What do you want to say? Spit it out.”

”Master Yang, do you find me ugly?”

”No, although you are not a stunning beauty, you’re still quite attractive, one in a hundred.”

”Is it my figure you dislike?”

”You’re plump and graceful, with skin as white as snow; your figure is very fine.”

”If that’s the case, then please take me in, Master Yang, even if just as a servant to warm your bed.”

Yang Xiao was stunned for a moment, then said:

”I’ve said it before, I’m not used to being served by others, please go back.”

The girl’s eyes filled with tears as she said:

”If I go back, I’m afraid I’ll be executed immediately.”

”What?”

Yang Xiao was shocked.

Tears slid down the woman’s cheeks as she said:

”You are the teacher of the station’s head, Sir. The station head ordered me to serve you, and if I fail to complete the task, I could face severe punishment upon my return.”

”It wouldn’t go as far as to execute you, would it? I’ll just go and talk to the station head myself.”

The woman immediately grabbed Yang Xiao’s hand, urgently saying:

”That can’t be done.”

”Hmm?”

”If you go to see the station head about this, it will only make it seem like I did not serve you well and failed to complete my task. Last year, one of my sisters was killed by the station head for failing to serve one of his superiors properly. I beg for Master Yang’s mercy.”

After she finished speaking, the woman knelt down before Yang Xiao.

Yang Xiao was somewhat dazed.

Though he understood the notion of ”When in Rome, do as the Romans do,” this was not merely a matter of adapting to local customs but a matter of trust.

David, though he had taken Yang Xiao as a mentor and learned Go from him, also harbored worries about Yang Xiao having ulterior motives; however, driven by his eagerness to learn, he temporarily set aside those concerns.

Promising to help Yang Xiao apply for a temporary ID and giving Crystal Coins to help him break through to King Level evolution, and now sending a beautiful woman over, hoping Yang Xiao would fall into the honey trap and willingly follow David, accepting his protection and material supplies, ideally coming to rely on David.

Yang Xiao hesitated. If he were to forcefully push this woman out now, he might indeed put her in danger, and his image of purity would immediately set him apart as an oddity.

An outcast cannot blend into their social organization, nor be genuinely accepted by them.

Having lived in the base for some time, Yang Xiao was well aware of the nightly reveling with women by the people here; Luo Meng had also once suggested sending a woman over for the night, which Yang Xiao had refused.

Yang Xiao also knew that his so-called mentor status was not that stable, considering he was a slave Miner from Earth. To survive, he had to integrate into their society.

”Alright, you can stay.”

The woman heard this, immediately stood up and wiped away her tears,

”Thank you, Master Yang, for your help; my name is Leia.”

There was only one bed in Yang Xiao’s room. Initially, Yang Xiao thought to sleep on the table for the night, but considering this wasn’t a long-term solution, they might as well sleep together—as long as he could restrain himself, it would be fine.

After they got into bed, they kept to their own sides.
