Super Gene Hunting Ground

Li Kan and his companion stared at Yang Xiao as if they had seen a ghost, dumbfounded.

This man... wasn’t he buried under a mine a hundred meters deep?

How could he suddenly appear at the base?

When Leia saw Yang Xiao,

she too was stunned!

She forgot to resist and struggle, letting Li Kan hold her.

All three of them were like petrified, simply staring blankly at Yang Xiao.

”Leia is my woman, let her go!”

Yang Xiao was the first to break the almost solidified atmosphere.

Leia suddenly awoke, struggled out of Li Kan’s arms, and ran towards Yang Xiao.

”Yang Xiao!”

Leia, with tears in her eyes, threw herself into Yang Xiao’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably.

The humiliation she had just endured was now thrown to the back of her mind, completely replaced by the surprise and joy of Yang Xiao’s appearance.

Leia hugged Yang Xiao tightly, fearing he might suddenly disappear.

Li Kan and his companion also recovered from their astonishment.

Li Kan looked at Yang Xiao, opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something but in the end, nothing came out.

His companion quickly gave Li Kan a look and whispered:

”Let’s go!”

After all, Yang Xiao is David’s master, and David’s face must be given respect.

Li Kan also wanted to quickly avoid this awkward scene and walked away with his head down.

”Wait a moment!”

Yang Xiao hugged Leia, his eyes fixed on Li Kan.

Li Kan and his companion stopped, trying to force a smile,

”Yang Xiao, Master Yang, you’re back?”

”Is it a surprise? Is it a delight?”

”Of course, we thought you were... Ah, no, we always hoped for a miracle, hoping you would return safely. We didn’t expect the miracle to finally happen.”

”Yes, now that you have returned, our worries are relieved.”

”Ah, it seems I was missed a lot during my absence. Shouldn’t I properly thank you?”

”Hehe, no need for thanks, we are all brothers after all. You’re busy, we’ll be going then.”

After Li Kan and his companion finished speaking, they turned to leave.

”You’re leaving just like that?”

Yang Xiao’s voice was cold, with a hint of killing aura.

Li Kan and his companion were startled and turned around.

”Master Yang, what do you mean?”

”What do I mean? Leia is my woman. You were just holding her, wanting to force her, only because I appeared in time, you did not succeed. So, you just want to leave like that?”

”Let it go, Yang Xiao.”

Leia whispered softly, tugging at the sleeve of Yang Xiao’s clothes.

Leia did not want to cause trouble for Yang Xiao. She couldn’t afford it. She was afraid.

”Fortunately, you came just in time. They... they didn’t succeed.”

Leia’s last sentence was so soft that only she could hear it, her face flushing red.

Yang Xiao gently patted Leia’s shoulder, saying softly:

”Don’t be afraid, I am here!”

Then he said to Li Kan:

”Kneel down and apologize. Slap yourself three times, then we can let this go.”

Li Kan and his companion could hardly believe their ears and exploded in anger, jumping up.

”What? Say that again.”

”Kneel down and apologize. Slap yourself four times.”

Yang Xiao increased the number of slaps from three to four.

Li Kan finally was enraged, changing his previously respectful attitude towards Yang Xiao, and said with a sneer:

”Yang Xiao, who do you think you are?

Do you really think you’re the station chief’s teacher?

Let me tell you the truth; you are nothing but a slave now. Even if I kill you, based on the laws of Witch Star, Station Chief Dai wouldn’t dare to do anything to me.

We only refer to you as Master Yang to give face to Station Chief Dai.

Heh, you’ve really started to think of yourself as someone important. You’re just a slave from Earth, a colonial planet.

On our Witch Star, you’re only worth 20,000 Crystal Coins,

If I kill you, I just need to pay a compensation of 100,000 Crystal Coins to avoid punishment.

Do you understand?

Take that slut Leia and cool off somewhere else.”

”To think that you have the audacity to demand that I kneel and apologize— even Station Chief David doesn’t wield such authority.”

According to Witch Star law, if a slave kills another citizen on Witch Star, their master is held jointly responsible.

On the other hand, if a Witch Star citizen kills a slave, they only need to compensate more than five times the price of the slave to be exempt from punishment.

Yang Xiao’s status is currently that of a slave!

Leia had received training on Witch Star and was very clear about these rules. That’s why she acted so servile, not daring to resist Li Kan excessively.

Leia gently took Yang Xiao’s hand,

”Yang Xiao, let it go. We can’t fight them. The laws he mentioned just now are correct. Let him go, I’m really okay.”

Yang Xiao looked at Leia, speaking softly:

”You’re my woman, and I will naturally protect you. No one is allowed to bully you.”

Then he coldly spoke to Li Kan and the other:

”Indeed, I am a slave, but even as a slave, I too have dignity.”

”Ha! Dignity? What dignity does a slave have when even your life is ours, where is your so-called dignity?”

”Whether my life belongs to you is not for you to dictate. You’ve bullied my woman today, and you must pay the price; there are two options, first, apologize on your knees, and second, duel with me, taking responsibility for life or death. Do you dare?”

Li Kan laughed upon hearing this,

”You can forget about kneeling. As for a duel, if I remember correctly, you haven’t even completed the King Level Evolution. What makes you think you can duel with me?

Let me tell you straight, if it weren’t for Station Chief David’s sake, I would have killed you by now.”

”Then now you don’t need to concern yourself with Station Chief David’s face.”

”Yang Xiao, don’t push me!”

Li Kan was angry. He had already given Yang Xiao enough face,

Yang Xiao was just a slave, and this limited patience was already his limit,

Otherwise, had it been any other slave daring to challenge him, they would’ve been flattened with a single slap long ago.

”What’s all the noise? What happened?”

From afar, David, Luo Meng, and others rushed over after hearing the report.

David glanced at Li Kan, then said to Yang Xiao:

”Master Yang, what’s going on?”

”Station Chief Dai, this man insulted Leia, and it just so happens that I saw it. I demanded he kneel and apologize to Leia, but he refused. So now, I want to duel with him, responsible for life and death, and I ask for your permission, Station Chief Dai.”

David was taken aback, thinking this was really not an easy situation to handle.

Yang Xiao’s status was truly awkward; nominally, he was David’s master, but in reality, he was just a slave from Earth.

On Witch Star, slaves have no personal freedom or dignity, and not even their lives are in their own control. For a Witch Star citizen to kneel and apologize to a slave was nearly impossible.

And as for a duel?

”Master Yang, Li Kan has already reached the Intermediate Stage of King Level Genetic Evolution, ahem, this— I’ll compensate you with 100,000 Crystal Coins and let this matter be settled, how about that?”

By saying this, David was also reminding Yang Xiao not to duel with Li Kan, as it would surely end in a terrible death.

Despite being the base station chief, within the legal system of Witch Star, David did not have the ability to freely control the life and death of his subordinates.

The Witch Star citizens considered themselves far more noble than slaves. If David had Li Kan apologize to Yang Xiao on his knees, it would provoke public outrage; the rest of the base would invariably oppose David and report him to higher authorities.

David respected Yang Xiao, and that was a personal matter, but he couldn’t force Li Kan to kneel and apologize to a slave; it would be a violation of the entire Witch Star’s hierarchical value system.

David gave Yang Xiao a knowing look,

”Let it go. I’m giving you a way out; it’s best to accept it, as I won’t be able to control the situation if this escalates.”

But Yang Xiao was stubborn today, firmly stating:

”Station Chief Dai, I wish to duel Li Kan alone, accepting the consequences of life or death, without affecting anyone else. I hope you allow this.”

”This is—”

David looked reluctant, cursing Yang Xiao inwardly, ’How could he be so stubborn and foolish? Isn’t this suicidal?’

”Ha ha! Station Chief, since Yang Xiao is courting death, let him proceed.

You wouldn’t oppose the laws of the Witch Star Federation for Master Yang’s sake, right?

A slave who challenges their master or other Witch Star citizens,

is to die!”

David was startled, realizing that if he persisted, he would really be placing himself in opposition to his own colleagues for the sake of a single individual, Yang Xiao.

As the base station chief, he wielded absolute authority in arranging work and personnel, but in the face of Witch Star’s value system and legal framework, he had to comply.

David looked at Yang Xiao and said:

”Master Yang, why bother? You’re no match for Li Kan. As for a woman like Leia, I could buy several more for you if you wish.”

”This isn’t about Leia; it’s about my dignity.

If my woman can be insulted at will, what’s the point of following you, Station Chief Dai?

This battle is a personal duel with him, fighting for dignity!

Please grant permission!”

Yang Xiao wanted to challenge Li Kan within the framework of the system so that it wouldn’t bring any extra trouble to himself or David, hence he repeatedly asked for David’s consent.

David shook his head helplessly and said:

”Alright, then I hereby grant the two of you permission to duel!”
