Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 279: Chapter 155: Too Much Money to Care (First Update)

Gabrielle Winters quickly made room for him to take charge of the cooking.

Their kitchen used gas, so the flames were quite strong, much stronger than those from an induction cooker.

The old Daoist was very adept at using it.

Lawrence Winters observed his gestures, noticing he didn’t seem to use any special techniques. He tossed in oil, salt, soy sauce, and vinegar effortlessly, and after just a couple of quick stirs, the air was filled with an enticing aroma.

Just like the beauty described in ”The Profligate’s Love of Beauty,” add one more pinch it’s too salty, take away one pinch it’s too bland; add sugar it’s too sweet, pour vinegar it’s too sour.

The taste, somehow balanced, without any measuring cups or timers, came out looking like a perfect piece of art in the bowl—complete with color, aroma, and flavor.

Lawrence Winters gazed at the plate of braised mandarin ducks, swallowing continuously.

She couldn’t resist taking out her phone and snapping nine photos from different angles, then posting them on her social media.

#Today’s dinner, really delicious!!!#

She used three exclamation marks to express her feelings.

Kenneth Osborne saw it from the study, liked it, and then came to the kitchen as well.

Lawrence pulled him over, stood by the old Daoist happily saying, ”Kenneth, look! My great master is such a skilled cook! It’s really exceptionally delicious! I had it once when I was ten, and I still remember the taste!”

Kenneth glanced at her, saying lightly, ”You remember what something tasted like when you were ten? Aren’t you exaggerating?”

”How could it be an exaggeration!” Lawrence picked up her chopsticks, grabbed a piece of the duck, and put it in her mouth.

The duck meat, both tender and chewy, offered supreme enjoyment to her teeth and tongue; that flavor quickly transmitted from the taste buds to her brain, as if every cell in her body was affirming this delightful experience.

She chewed with her eyes closed, murmuring, ”This is the taste... this is the taste...”

It really was exactly the same as the deliciousness in her memories.

Kenneth curled his lips, also picked up the public chopsticks, and grabbed a piece of the duck for himself.

When this piece of duck reached his mouth, he indeed paused for a moment.

Kenneth had tasted many good things, his sister Brooke Osborne’s cooking was especially excellent, better than many five-star hotel chefs.

But this time, compared to Brooke’s cooking, it was like comparing a rural chef carrying full sets of pots and pans to the countryside to prepare banquets, with a master-level chef running a state banquet.

Not at the same level at all, impossible to compare.

Chewing slowly, Kenneth savored this indescribable delicacy, his emotions gradually becoming complex.

Unlike Lawrence, he was an outsider, so he saw things more clearly.

At least he would never believe that someone who could create such stunningly delicious dishes was just an ordinary, unknown old Daoist.

He looked at the old Daoist, who was concentrating on his cooking, with a keen gaze like X-rays, as if wanting to see through his plump exterior to the depth of his being.

The identity of this old Daoist was definitely not simple.

Kenneth swallowed the last bite, noticed Lawrence’s intoxicated expression, and his heart stirred, smiling as he said, ”It really is so delicious, Nora wasn’t wrong after all.”

Lawrence opened her eyes, nodded repeatedly, her peachy cheeks flushed with excitement as she said, ”Kenneth, I wasn’t lying, was I?! My great master’s dishes are truly amazing! They even dared to say it was made by a fox spirit! It’s clearly great master! Tastes exactly like those in my memory!”

The old Daoist smiled warmly at her and said, ”Ten years ago, you believed it... You were even cuter than you are now, you believed anything I said!”

”Great master, I trusted you, yet you used that to tease me! Am I still your most beloved little apprentice?!” With the delicious food in front of her, Lawrence could say anything, her words of praise were overwhelming and irresistible.

But the old Daoist enjoyed it very much, even starting to hum a little mountain tune cheerfully.

”... When the sky darkens and the stars appear, I think of my sweetheart with full affection... When getting off the horse and seeing the tree we planted together, the winding mountain road ahead leads home...”

Gabrielle Winters and Nick Zeller exchanged glances and shook their heads with smiles, then carried the dishes to the dining room.

Lawrence Winters smelled the braised mandarin duck being carried away and turned to chase after it.

Leaving only Kenneth Osborne and the old Daoist in the kitchen.

Kenneth took the opportunity to say, ”Old sage, could you teach me how to cook?”
