Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 278: Chapter 154: This Joke Will Make Me Laugh for Ten Years (Third Update)

Although he had just closed the door himself, Nick Zeller couldn’t help but look back.

But looking at the closed door, he felt it was a bit like ”there are no 300 silver taels buried here”, so it’s better to keep the door open.

Moreover, with the door open, they’d see whoever walks in.

Thinking this way, Nick Zeller went over and opened the door again.

The old Daoist quickly said, ”Why are you opening the door? Do you want everyone to know?”

”I don’t want them to know, that’s why I have to keep the door open, just lower your voice a bit.” Nick Zeller’s voice became even softer as he kept glancing outside the door.

The house he bought, a three-bedroom with a study, living room, and dining room, was a standard rectangular suite.

Upon entering, there is a short vestibule. Crossing the vestibule, the living room stands in the center of the suite.

The living room divides the entire suite into two sections shaped like the Chinese character for ”sun.” To the left of the living room are two rooms, Nick Zeller’s bedroom and Gabrielle Winters’ bedroom.

On the right side of the living room, there are Lawrence Winters’ bedroom and Kenneth Osborne’s study.

Diagonal to the living room is the dining room and kitchen, with a large balcony right outside the dining room.

Nick Zeller fixed his gaze in the direction of the right front of the living room, where Kenneth Osborne, Lawrence Winters, and Gabrielle Winters were.

The old Daoist understood his meaning, thought about it, and also lowered his voice, ”Then you should sit back inside; speaking at the door, your voice will carry no matter how low it is.”

Nick Zeller nodded, walked back, and sat on the single sofa in his room.

The old Daoist sat on the computer chair opposite him.

He was tall. Although the chair the old Daoist was sitting on was relatively high, it was still at eye level with him.

Once he was settled, the old Daoist asked, ”What’s really going on between Lawrence and that kid Kenneth?”

Nick Zeller whispered, ”They’re just neighbors, and they get along well, have been close since childhood, good friends.”

”... Just friends, then why is Lawrence considering being together with him, breaking up situation?” The old Daoist had a peculiar expression on his face, ”You should know, that’s kind of unusual...”

”I know, that’s why I called you here to have a look...” Nick Zeller smiled wryly, ”If I knew why, I wouldn’t have asked for your help...”

”But I don’t know either.” The old Daoist scratched his head, ”I always thought such a situation wouldn’t happen, it’s quite regrettable...”

”Regrettable? What do you mean?” Nick Zeller asked.

”Uh... just what it sounds like.” The old Daoist shrugged, not sure how to explain, ”Honestly, in cases like this, probably the whole human society has no precedent, so we just have to find our own way.”

”Meaning what? You’re groping around in the dark too?!” Nick Zeller’s voice rose slightly, an obvious anger on his face, ”What if we stumble? Are we just going to drown?”

The old Daoist turned his head awkwardly, ”It’s not that serious, I guess it won’t go wrong. See, it’s been twenty years and Lawrence is still alive and well, right?”

”She is alive and well, but she’s grown up, has more to worry about now...” Nick Zeller sighed, ”To be honest, my big sister doesn’t know at all about this. And I’m not planning on telling her.”

”Do you think you can keep this a secret?” The old Daoist waggled his finger meaningfully, ”And surely she’ll want children, right? What do you plan on doing? Artificial insemination?”

Nick Zeller covered his head, suffering from a headache, ”Honestly, whether she has kids or not, I don’t care.”

”Then you have kids! Otherwise, the legacy of the Great Heavenly Masters of the Zhang clan ends with me?!” The old Daoist glared at him, ”How would I face the ancestors of the Zhang Heavenly Master lineage?!”

Nick Zeller’s lip twitched, ”Master, there’s no blood relation between us. The Great Heavenly Masters of the Zhang clan already ended with your line.”

”Who says?!” The old Daoist stubbornly refused, ”Our Zhang clan’s Great Heavenly Masters lineage values cultural inheritance, not bloodline inheritance! As long as what is passed down is the Zhang clan’s Great Heavenly Master’s legacy, then it is a successor of the Zhang clan!”

”You’re just making excuses for your irresponsible actions.” Nick Zeller rolled his eyes, ”Unfortunately, I don’t want to get married and have kids either, so aside from Nora, who can help continue the lineage of the Great Heavenly Masters?”

”Adopt then?” The old Daoist thought for a moment, ”It’s still not too late to adopt a child now.”

”It’s too late.” Nick Zeller said coldly, ”Everything of mine should be left to Lawrence, I won’t take on other disciples.”

”Then I will!” The old Daoist flew into a rage, ”I don’t need this rebellious unfilial disciple to keep causing me trouble! Without you, I can live a few more years!”

”You can’t take any either!” Nick Zeller folded his arms and sneered, ”Because everything of yours should be left to Lawrence! You can’t take on other disciples!”

”Ah... my life is so miserable...” The old Daoist suddenly rolled his eyes and started beating the table crying.

Nick Zeller was stunned like a statue.

Lawrence Winters and Kenneth Osborne ran over simultaneously.

However, one came from the kitchen while the other came from the study.

”Uncle, Master Grandfather, what’s wrong? What’s happened?” Lawrence Winters asked breathlessly, ”Don’t you two scare me!”

Kenneth Osborne also glanced at Nick Zeller and said, ”Uncle Zhang, what’s the matter?”

Lawrence Winters had already walked over to the old Daoist, took a tissue from a pack she carried, and wiped the old Daoist’s face.

The old Daoist had just taken a bath, his face was very clean. He took the tissue from Lawrence Winters, wiped his face casually, and tossed it into the trash can in Nick Zeller’s room.

Only then did Lawrence Winters ask, ”Master Grandfather, what’s wrong? Why were you crying just now?”

”Why am I crying? It’s all because of you, this unfilial master, and you, this unfilial disciple!”

”Grandmaster, how am I unfilial? My uncle wasn’t unfilial either... He even reminded me that even if he’s not around, I should take good care of you!”

As Lawrence said this, the old Daoist immediately stopped crying and squinted at Nick, ”...Does he really have such filial piety?”

Lawrence: Maybe your focus is wrong?

Shouldn’t the focus be on the uncle’s advice?

Nick shook his head speechlessly, still unwilling to speak.

Kenneth glanced between the two in the room, guessing that they probably had some things hidden from each other—not just from him, but also from Lawrence and Gabrielle.

But since he was just an outsider, he didn’t reveal it. He looked at Nick and said, ”Uncle Nick, Auntie is in the kitchen managing that big duck alone, it seems quite heavy.”

Nick immediately said, ”I’ll go see if there is anything I can do to help.”

The old Daoist stared at Kenneth for a moment, then nodded satisfactorily and asked, ”Young man, you look quite spirited. What do your parents do? How many are there in your family?”

Kenneth replied, ”My parents are in River City, Mom is a primary school teacher, Dad works for the Agriculture Bureau. I have an elder sister.”

The old Daoist nodded and said cheerfully, ”What’s your birthday? Can you tell me? Let me calculate your Bazi. — I’m really accurate in calculating Bazi! I won’t charge you!”

Lawrence’s eyes gleamed, and he eagerly nudged Kenneth, ”Hurry, tell him! When my grandmaster gets involved, it’s twice as strong! — Twice means me and my uncle!”

Kenneth was amused by her and told the old Daoist his birthday; he didn’t know the exact time, but the old Daoist didn’t ask for it.

The old Daoist examined his face and calculated his Bazi.

Soon, his expression wasn’t very good as he said faintly, ”The young man’s Bazi is ordinary. The peak of his life is when he is young, and the older he gets, the faster he declines! — Not compatible with Lawrence’s Bazi!”

Lawrence: ”...”

What the heck?

He was clearly reading Kenneth’s Bazi, so how did it turn into matching with her Bazi?

Lawrence’s ability to interpret Bazi was far weaker than her skill in divination, so she rarely worked on interpreting Bazi, only occasionally.

What the old Daoist said all sounded like generic comments to her, things she could say a few sentences about.

Kenneth didn’t believe a word of it.

Even if the old Daoist was accurate, he wouldn’t believe it, thinking it was Nick and Lawrence having a laugh about his personal information.

However, he really didn’t like the old Daoist saying his Bazi didn’t match Lawrence’s, which made him unhappy.

Kenneth’s eye twitched, ”Can you tell me when the peak of my life is? I want to overtake on the curve and dodge it.”

”Thinking too much!” The old Daoist chuckled and scolded him, ”You’re aiming too high, huh?”

Lawrence: ”...”

These two are both important to her, and she didn’t want to see them publicly bicker, making a mockery for others.

She stepped forward, changed topics, and suggested, ”Kenneth’s career is just starting out, how about grandmaster you help check out his office feng shui? Help him set up a wealth-attracting Geomantic Formation in the office, enabling him to advance steadily...”

The old Daoist chuckled, ”He can’t afford me setting up a Geomantic Formation.”

”Then just consider it done for me, once it’s set up, I’ll transfer you the money, how about that?” Lawrence started to propose.

The old Daoist was indeed diverted. He stood up and said, ”You two chat, I’m going to the kitchen to help your mom cook. — Today I’ll show you my skills!”

Lawrence was ecstatic, ”That’s great! We’ll get to eat grandmaster’s cooking tonight! Kenneth, I’m telling you, it’s unbelievably delicious!”

”When I was ten, I went to the mountains with my uncle to see grandmaster. He cooked a full table of delicious dishes and then told me it was made by fox spirits! — Hahaha! This joke keeps me laughing for ten years!”

The old Daoist seemed a bit embarrassed, he pushed Lawrence and Kenneth aside and headed towards the kitchen.

In the kitchen, Gabrielle had already prepared the side dishes.

She intended to make four dishes: a large bowl of braised mandarin duck, bamboo mushroom soup, lotus root slow-cooked ribs, and stir-fried seasonal vegetables with pine mushrooms.

The old Daoist came over to take a look and couldn’t resist but said, ”Let me handle the cooking.”

Gabrielle glanced at Nick.

Nick smiled and said, ”One of my grandmaster’s talents is cooking.”

”It’s a gift, nobody can learn it,” he added. ”Master has been living on the mountain all these years, always cooking his own food.”
