Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 268: Chapter 148: You Might Not Believe This If I Told You (Third Update) _2

Lawrence Winters chuckled, ”This is a bit strange, isn’t it? Lucas Harlow has never been very popular, right? How many artists does NewHuman Corporation have like him, being neither here nor there? If not a hundred, there are at least eighty, right? Mr. Fu founded this company, does he know everyone in it? It’s not like it’s a small company with just a few people; it’s a medium-sized company with nearly two hundred people, isn’t it?”

Zoe Johnson kind of understood, ”You’re saying Lucas Harlow has private ties with Mr. Fu?”

”I don’t know about that. As I said, I don’t want to know. All I know is that right now I’m the agent and Lucas Harlow is the only artist under me. We are a community of shared interests. So, he has to work hard, or I, as his agent, won’t let him off easily!”

Lawrence Winters stretched out his fair palm and made a grabbing gesture in the air.

Zoe Johnson was amused to death, determined to see what kind of jokes this pair would make in the future.

One prefers to lay low, while the other is ambitious; the clash of contrasting quirks is also a big show.

Lawrence Winters didn’t know what Zoe Johnson was imagining. She remembered that Lucas Harlow only had a small assistant, Jason, by his side until now.

Now it seems Jason isn’t very reliable, or even not very smart.

Lawrence Winters thought for a moment and asked, ”Was the assistant Jason found by you for Lucas Harlow?”

”That assistant? I didn’t find him.” Zoe Johnson pursed her lips, ”If I had found him, how could I have picked someone not quite bright as an assistant?”

Lawrence Winters smiled and nodded, ”I also think he’s not very smart, and his interpersonal abilities aren’t particularly outstanding. I wonder if replacing him...”

Zoe Johnson quickly raised her hand to stop her, saying softly, ”You can find another assistant for Lucas Harlow, but don’t replace Jason.”

”Why?” Lawrence Winters was very curious, ”Sister Zoe, I don’t think you’re such a merciful boss, right? Don’t tell me you feel sorry for him...”

”I don’t feel sorry for him.” Zoe Johnson whispered, ”I said, if I could make the decision, I would’ve replaced Jason a long time ago.”

”Honestly, Jason’s not very smart. I heard from the young Mr. Fu that he had encephalitis at twelve, and his IQ stopped there. After finishing elementary school, he couldn’t keep up with his studies, always failing in junior high, just barely completing nine years of compulsory education.”

”Then where did Lucas Harlow find such a person?” Lawrence Winters was surprised, ”Someone with the intelligence of a twelve-year-old, I don’t think he’d understand how to apply and interview for a job, right?”

Zoe Johnson sighed, ”You can’t say that. Some twelve-year-olds are exceptionally bright, smarter than adults.”

”But Jason clearly isn’t that kind of bright and sharp person. Actually, saying he has the intelligence of a twelve-year-old is giving him too much credit. He’s slightly mentally challenged...”

Lawrence Winters finally understood why around the charming Lucas Harlow, there was an assistant dressed like some peculiar toad spirit...

”So where exactly did he find him?” Lawrence questioned persistently.

Zoe Johnson whispered, ”I heard someone at the company say once that Jason’s family is very poor, but he has a very smart sister who got into a prestigious university. Although the tuition was waived, they couldn’t afford living expenses, so Jason secretly ran out to find work, almost getting tricked into someplace shady. Lucas Harlow happened to encounter him and save him, then kept him by his side as an assistant.”

”You know, Lucas Harlow wasn’t particularly ambitious in the past; wherever he could be, he would be. He’d only do one film a year, spending most of his time reading or traveling, not needing to work. Jason’s intelligence suffices for simple administrative work, repetitive tasks he can handle.”

”The key point is he’s especially loyal to Lucas Harlow, that kind of stubborn loyalty, only recognizing him. Lucas Harlow feels at ease employing someone like that.”

Lawrence Winters was amazed, repeatedly saying, ”Sister Zoe, our company truly lives up to being an entertainment firm, even a small assistant has so much drama. In comparison, my life is too smooth, dragging down the company’s entertainment business!”

”Do you think I’m deceiving you?” Zoe Johnson didn’t understand Lawrence Winters’ train of thought.

Lawrence Winters covered her mouth to laugh, ”Of course not, why would Sister Zoe make up stories about Jason? Besides, I had interacted with Jason even before joining the company. I really thought he seemed... mentally challenged. I didn’t expect it to be true...”

She pursed her lips, embarrassed, ”Sister Zoe wouldn’t think I look down on people, would you?”

”How could I? You’re truly intelligent, and your intuition is spot on.” Zoe Johnson curiously asked, ”I’ve always been puzzled, how did you figure out that the mistress in the video wasn’t Becca?”

Lawrence Winters looked smug, ”You may not believe it, but I truly just guessed.”

Zoe Johnson: I totally believe you!

She thought Lawrence Winters just didn’t want to tell the truth, so she didn’t press further.

Doesn’t everyone have a secret they can’t share?

She understood.

Zoe Johnson displayed a knowing expression, ”Alright, I understand even if you don’t say. Now that matter is settled, you’re officially my friend, and even though I, Zoe Johnson, might not get into life-or-death situations for friends, I do know the word loyalty.”

Lawrence Winters’s mouth twitched, thinking that Sister Zoe exudes a strong air of the rivers and lakes.

...

That day, she worked late before leaving because Zoe Johnson gave Lawrence Winters the contact list of people she was familiar with.

Lawrence Winters was doing some prep work, researching the background and identities of these people one by one; knowing oneself and the enemy is the way to win every battle.

She got home quite late that day, and coincidentally, Kenneth Osborne was also working late. Nick Zeller was not comfortable with her going home alone at night, so he offered to pick her up.

The uncle and niece hadn’t spoken alone for a while.

Nick Zeller said quietly, ”Your master will be coming to Capital City in a few days. Remember to take a day off; I’ll take you to see him.”
