Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 257: Chapter 142: I Heard She’s Your Beloved Darling (Second and Third Updates Combined, Includes Coldsteel Grace +5)

Because he knows, indeed, there are many AI companies that only use the guise of artificial intelligence to deceive the government and businesses for funding with PPT presentations.

”All right then, you can first filter them, and then select a few promising companies for us to budget for.” Justus Spencer further compromised, giving Thomas the leading role in selecting companies.

...

Kenneth Osborne has also been contemplating the direction of the company’s development recently.

He got into artificial intelligence out of personal interest, but now, running a company requires more than just personal interest.

That night, he was working overtime alone in the office, using an AI program he wrote to optimize an outsourced software.

This kind of work requires a lot of time to write AI programs in the initial stage, but once completed, it becomes much easier.

It’s like a template that can optimize the program itself without him monitoring every line of code.

It just takes time to run.

While the computer was running the program on its own, he sat at the long table in the middle of the lab, writing and drawing on a piece of paper with a pen.

Francis Johnson called him from downstairs, saying he wanted to bring Ian Lothrop up to see him.

Kenneth Osborne was delighted and personally went down to bring them up.

”Here are the access cards for my place, you each take one. Feel free to come over anytime without contacting me in advance,” Kenneth said happily as he made them coffee.

Francis Johnson and Ian Lothrop walked around the lab and then sat down at the long table, each with a cup of coffee and a plate of scones in front of them.

Ian Lothrop ate a scone first, then wiped his hands with a napkin and asked, ”Tell me, what are your thoughts on artificial intelligence?”

This is indeed a huge question and one that can distinguish who truly understands the industry.

Because if someone is not particularly knowledgeable, it’s easy to give a ”fake, grand, empty” answer.

And this question is precisely what Kenneth Osborne has been pondering.

Though he has not summarized it before.

This time, taking advantage of Ian Lothrop’s question, he also organized his thoughts.

He took a notebook computer, projected it onto the large screen opposite, and said, ”Currently, the AI industry is generally categorized into five main types: natural language processing, visual recognition, voice recognition, expert systems, and cross-domain.”

”In my view, this classification is not only functionally redundant but also lacks logical layering and can’t be considered a real classification; it’s merely a list of some AI that has been put into use.”

Ian Lothrop raised an eyebrow in surprise and nodded, ”Interesting, go on.”

Kenneth Osborne had learned of some of Ian Lothrop’s ”great achievements” from Francis Johnson and admired him immensely.

Receiving recognition from Ian Lothrop was like a shot in the arm for Kenneth Osborne.

He became more energetic and earnestly said, ”AI should be classified into the human-machine interaction domain, like visual recognition, voice recognition, natural language processing, and even robots are part of this category.”

”The second category is machine-to-machine communication domains, like expert systems. The most common expert system currently is autonomous driving, where AI controls all traffic information and makes systemic judgments to achieve true autonomous driving.”

”The third is the machine-to-machine supervision domain.”

Ian Lothrop’s pupils contracted almost imperceptibly, and his fingers twitched slightly with nervous excitement.

His voice trembled slightly.

Francis Johnson could tell that Ian Lothrop was genuinely excited and couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows as well.

Ian Lothrop asked Kenneth Osborne, ”...the third point, tell me about the third point, what is machine-to-machine supervision?” Kenneth ventured, ”It’s an inspiration I got from Asimov Clarke’s science fiction novel, ’The Three Laws of Robotics’.”

”In ’The Three Laws of Robotics,’ Asimov first proposed the principles of robot survival.”

”First, a robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm;

Second, a robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law;

Third, a robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.”

”Not to mention whether these three laws have logical loopholes, the first thing humans should do when facing AI is to figure out how to protect themselves.”

”Humans cannot be replaced or destroyed by what they create. This should be the premise of all scientific research and an ethical requirement.”

Upon hearing this, Ian Lothrop excitedly slapped the table and stood up, ”Well said! If scientists have no conscience and are haphazardly conducting experiments, they can indeed destroy the world!”

”Scientific research is a tool for humans to explore the world, but if used improperly, the consequences are unimaginable.”

”This is exactly what a certain great person once said, a wrong path means the more knowledge you have, the more reactionary you become.”

Kenneth Osborne’s mouth twitched slightly and said, ”...that’s pretty much the same meaning.”

”My view on AI is that we need to design a logical program to let AI supervise itself.”

”After all, the human brain is limited. When AI truly becomes widespread, no human can supervise AI.”

”That outcome is truly terrifying, so I believe the only solution is letting machines supervise machines.”

”In human terms, it’s ’using the techniques of the barbarians to control the barbarians.’”

Francis Johnson burst out laughing, ”Puhahaha...”

Damn ’using the techniques of the barbarians to control the barbarians’!

”Why are you laughing? What he said is not wrong!” Ian Lothrop glared at Francis Johnson, ”When AI truly develops, humans will find out we really are not their opponents.”

”Whether in intelligence, physical strength, or longevity — we can’t compete with them.”

”So what Kenneth Osborne just said, the third point, is very important.”

”And his thinking is really quite unique,” Ian Lothrop couldn’t wait, ”I have some ideas and need to go back and write some code right away.”

He left as fast as the wind, opening the laboratory door and heading out.

Francis Johnson nodded to Kenneth Osborne, praising, ”I knew we weren’t wrong about you, keep it up!”

After saying that, he also opened the door and chased after him.
