Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 277: Chapter 153: How Good Is He? (Second Update, Han Iron Grace +9)

Lawrence Winters jumped in surprise and quickly stepped back, saying, ”Why are you looking at me like that, Master Ancestor? It’s creepy...”

The old Daoist laughed and said, ”Lawrence, do you have some time? Come in and have a seat?”

He invited Lawrence Winters into Nick Zeller’s room like a host.

Lawrence Winters actually wanted to go see Kenneth Osborne and check on how he was doing.

His gaze awkwardly drifted in the direction where Kenneth Osborne had disappeared, but he felt embarrassed to mention it. He just stood at Nick Zeller’s door, unsure whether to enter or leave.

Seeing her dilemma, the old Daoist didn’t rush her but rather asked with interest in a soft voice, ”...Do you care a lot about Kenneth?”

Lawrence Winters nodded.

”Are you two very good friends?”

”Yes.”

”How close are you?”

”...What do you mean by ’how close’?” Lawrence Winters didn’t understand the old Daoist’s meaning and said with doubt, ”Just very, very good friends...”

”Oh, just friends? So, is he... um... is he pursuing you?”

”Pursuing me? Not at all.” Lawrence Winters shook his head, ”He’s not pursuing me. I told him, I want to be his best friend, because if we date, we will definitely break up, so it’s better just to be friends.”

The old Daoist looked puzzled, ”Do you really think like that?”

”Yes.” Lawrence Winters nodded firmly, ”That’s exactly what I think.”

The old Daoist looked at him, thinking, you’re quite logical, but the problem is why would you even consider the possibility of dating that man and even think of a breakup? That’s unusual...

He didn’t ask further but just waved his hand and said, ”Alright, but I agree with your view. Dating indeed isn’t very meaningful; it occupies our limited brain space. And look, those who cultivate don’t date because it affects their ascension.”

Lawrence Winters: ”...”

He couldn’t help but ask, ”Master Ancestor, I’m not cultivating. Plus, do you really believe cultivation can lead to ascension?”

That sounds too fantastical.

Even though he had seen some unbelievable things while learning feng shui with Nick Zeller, he thought there must be scientific explanations for them, just that science hadn’t reached that level yet.

The old Daoist smiled, stroking his goatee, ”Yes, it can. Why not? Just because you can’t doesn’t mean others can’t, right? We can doubt unknown things, explore them, but it’s best not to outrightly deny them.”

”But science...” Lawrence Winters wanted to use scientific theory to convince the old Daoist, worrying he might end up like Emperor Qin Shi Huang, who sought the ”Immortal Pill” and died.

The old Daoist turned serious and said, ”Science is just a system for understanding the world; it can’t encompass everything. Applying known scientific frameworks to everything is also a form of superstition, a superstition in science. That’s not good, you should broaden your thinking and not be confined to one framework.”

Lawrence Winters: ”...”

Shouldn’t she be the one saying that?

Coming from the old Daoist’s mouth, it sounded even more fantastical.

He looked at the old Daoist in confusion and muttered, ”...You say that, it sounds like you’ve read a lot.”

”Can’t I read a lot?” The old Daoist put his hands behind his back, his eyes widened, ”I’ve memorized the three thousand Daoist scriptures, do you think I’m an illiterate fortune-teller on the street?”

Lawrence Winters stifled a laugh and cupped his hands, ”My apologies! My apologies!”

”Indeed, let me tell you, the Daoist scriptures left by our ancestors have a very rich scientific system. Do you know where the earliest chemists at home and abroad originated from?”

Lawrence Winters shook his head.

The old Daoist became more smug, ”It originated from our Celestial Path Sect! Domestically, it was the Daoists practicing alchemy, abroad it was the alchemists, essentially from the same lineage, all from our Celestial Path Sect. — That’s why there are many chemistry experts among us.”

Lawrence Winters’ knees went weak, feeling the urge to kneel!

She looked at the old Daoist with a hint of admiration and asked, ”And you? Do you practice alchemy? Or are you into chemistry?”

Just as the old Daoist was about to answer, Nick Zeller came over, chimed in, and said, ”Him? Of course, he only cooks! — My master ancestor once told me cooking is also a kind of chemical reaction. Stir-frying plants and animals together to make a dish, it’s practically the greatest chemical reaction in the world!”

The old Daoist blushed a bit, was about to retort, but didn’t expect Lawrence Winters to step forward excitedly, clinging to his arm, and said, ”Really?! Grandmaster, you must show us your skills! The delicious meals I had in the mountains as a kid, you made those, didn’t you? I remember you even fooled me back then, saying a fox spirit made them... Hahaha...”

The old Daoist blushed even more, muttering, ”You have a good memory, remembering those offhand remarks from ten years ago?”

”Her memory is actually selective. As long as it involves food or money, she remembers it well.” Nick Zeller said with a smile.

The old Daoist felt relieved, ”That’s good! That’s good! Whew, you almost scared me to death hahaha...”

His laughter was a bit abrupt, but Nick Zeller didn’t allow Lawrence Winters to question, already saying to her, ”The mandarin ducks are cleaned up, take them to your mom.”

Lawrence Winters took them, not forgetting to say to the old Daoist, ”Grandmaster, when you have time, you must show us your skills! I want my mom and Kenneth to taste it!”

The old Daoist nodded with a smile, ”I’ll be staying here for a week, there will definitely be an opportunity!”

”Alright! Thank you, Grandmaster!” Lawrence Winters now spoke even more sweetly, said a few more flattering words, and then went to the kitchen with the cleaned up mandarin ducks.

After Lawrence Winters left, the old Daoist pulled Nick Zeller into the room, quickly closed the door, and asked in a low voice, ”What’s the deal between her and Kenneth?”
