Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 272: Chapter 150: The Worse You Are, the Happier I Am (Second Update, Grace of Cold Iron +8)_2

Lawrence Winters: Uncle, are you sure your mentor is really okay?

...

At the same time, Joyce Shaw had just finished today’s data analysis.

Looking at the rows of results on the screen, he nodded with satisfaction and smiled.

Finally, it’s done. This was an assignment from Thomas, asking him to analyze the development and status of foreign AI robots.

He used his own written program for analysis and computation and also referred to a paper he had previously written about smart robots used in manufacturing, finally completing the task successfully.

He hadn’t slept for two days and nights, just verifying his conclusion program.

After going through the results from start to finish again, he packed the data and sent it to Thomas’s mailbox.

Joyce then shut down the computer, turned off the lab lights, and left the office floor in the company.

Heading to the underground garage to pick up his car, he quickly drove onto the Capital City’s highway.

Thomas said their company needed to move to the center of Capital City, but finding a suitable office building wasn’t that easy.

They’re still looking, so Joyce still has to drive four hours round trip between home and the company every day.

This time, he hasn’t been home for two days and nights, planning to rest tomorrow once he gets back today.

After getting on the highway, the exhaustion finally hit him.

Even though he was still driving, his eyelids felt heavy, almost impossible to lift.

He tried hard to keep his eyes open, but couldn’t resist the overwhelming weariness, and soon his eyelids drooped again.

He wobbled along on the highway in a state of alternating clarity and haziness, swaying all the way.

Fortunately, at this hour, there weren’t many people on the highway.

Even though he was driving erratically, it was fine, except for the occasional honk from someone.

Whenever he was honked at, he would suddenly become alert and realize the car in front had gotten too close, prompting him to slam on the brakes.

But the last time, he stepped on the brakes too hard, causing the entire car to nearly drift horizontally on the highway before uncontrollably crashing with a bang into the guardrail on the side!

The car’s front instantly crumpled like folded paper.

The airbags popped out with a whoosh, hitting his face and leaving him bloodied.

His vision went black, and he fainted.

...

When he woke up, he was already in the hospital.

The snow-white ceiling, snow-white walls, and by the bed sat a woman resting her head, nodding occasionally like a pecking chick.

It was Mad Girl.

Joyce turned his head to look at her, gradually smiling from the corners of his lips.

This girl was truly adorable, and he didn’t want to wake her, so he closed his eyes again and drifted back to sleep.

The next day, when he awoke, daylight was already streaming in.

A doctor came in with a nurse to check his room, measured his blood pressure and heartbeat, and said he was fine and could be discharged.

He actually wasn’t injured much, just had a nosebleed and passed out.

The main reason he fainted wasn’t the accident, but his extreme exhaustion.

After being brought to the hospital by the ambulance and sleeping overnight, he was fine.

”Are you okay now? Are you really okay?” Mad Girl looked at him with concern. ”Don’t force yourself... Do you know how scared I was when the police called me at midnight saying you were hospitalized due to a car accident...”

When she received the call, she didn’t cry.

Seeing him at the hospital, she didn’t cry either.

Now learning that he was safe, she finally began to cry.

”I’ve already said I’m fine—like a little kid.” Joyce wiped her tears. ”Come on, let’s go home.”

But Mad Girl took him to a car dealership. ”Joyce, let’s buy another car, a sturdier one, a better one, a crash-worthy car.”

Mad Girl looked at him with teary eyes, ”I have money, I’ll buy it for you. My parents gave me some money to put a down payment on a small house, but I’m more willing to buy you a good car.”

Joyce had already bought a marriage house, but since it was purchased before their marriage and still under mortgage, Mad Girl’s name couldn’t be added temporarily.

Her parents probably realized this situation, which is why they secretly gave her money so she could buy a house before marriage too.

Yet Mad Girl ultimately decided to use the money to buy Joyce a good car.

Joyce, excited yet guilty, lowered his head and pressed his forehead against Mad Girl’s, smiling: ”No need, I have money, let’s buy a good car. I’ll be extra careful driving from now on, so you don’t have to worry.”

He kissed Mad Girl from her forehead all the way to her lips.

The two of them quietly hugged each other for a while, then turned to the smiling car salesperson watching eagerly beside them and said, ”Let’s buy the Hummer.”

The Hummer is the sturdiest model among SUVs. It used to be a military vehicle but has now been rendered civilian and is the toughest SUV available.

The price isn’t friendly at all, just enough for the down payment of a small one-bedroom apartment in Capital City.

Of course, Joyce didn’t let Mad Girl pay.

His salary had just increased by fifty percent, and the raise was exactly enough to cover the loan for this car.

The two drove off from the dealership in their Hummer, heading home.

Joyce asked Mad Girl, ”I didn’t go to work today. Did you get me a leave of absence?”

Mad Girl nodded: ”I did. I called your boss, said you had a car accident on your way home last night and couldn’t go to work today. Your boss was quite considerate, kept asking about your condition and told you not to worry about work, to recover before returning.”

Joyce breathed a sigh of relief and said with a smile, ”Was it Thomas? He’s quite a big name in the AI industry!”

”Yes, him,” Mad Girl replied. ”I only have his contact info, and you only have his business card in your wallet.”

Joyce patted her head, ”Well done, I’ll cook a big meal for you when we get back.”

Even though everything was fine, he still intended to rest well for a day before returning to work tomorrow.

...

At this moment, Lawrence Winters and Nick Zeller stood at Capital City train station’s reception area, anxiously waiting for someone.

Soon, passengers from that train began disembarking.

An old Daoist in a pale yellow robe, with white hair, scruffy and shabby, walked out from the exit.

In one hand, he was carrying a retro snakeskin bag, with unknown round objects rolling inside, while the other hand held a red and white woven bag.

Over his body a bulging gray fabric crossbody bag was slung.

His legs were strapped with bindings, and on his feet... was a pair of straw sandals.

Lawrence twisted her mouth slightly; her mentor, indeed still that eccentric, indifferent to the passage of time and unfazed by the disdainful gazes of others, Zhaode Zhenjun!
