Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 681: Chapter 455 The Purpose of Chang Yin (5000-word Chapter)_2

”I don’t know if that’s how they were shaved or if that’s just how they are, but anyway, they do seem more advanced and more human-like.”

”I’ve only encountered three of these furry humanoids in total. How should I put this...” Chang Yin’s stone-like face revealed a somewhat self-deprecating smile, ”Compared to me, perhaps they look more like normal humans.”

The people present were a bit silent, not knowing what to say.

Chang Yin continued, ”They didn’t come together. In fact, each of them only stayed for a day before leaving, seemingly for... inspection? These things I learned from the first furry humanoid. It was very talkative and, having nothing better to do, shared many stories about this world with me.”

”As for why it told me... maybe it thought telling me didn’t matter, after all, I couldn’t stir up any waves anyway.” Chang Yin sighed.

”Are they very strong?” Lou Fei’Er asked, a bit curious.

She was somewhat interested in these furry humanoids that bore some resemblance to her.

Moreover, she had previously encountered a powerful furry humanoid, the one that made her faint in the snow, which was completely different from the appearance described by Chang Yin.

”I don’t know.” Chang Yin shrugged, ”From the looks of them, they don’t seem strong, and I didn’t sense any threat from them. But I wouldn’t dare to act rashly since Xue Lan and Xiaohong are still in their hands.”

”So you’re saying you can’t really guarantee that everything you said before about the underground world is true?” Ji Chaoyang inquired.

”Hmm... I later subtly verified with the other two furry humanoids. It seems there’s not much problem, but of course, there’s also the possibility they were deceiving me or exaggerating.”

Chang Yin’s stone-like hand stroked his chin, making a sound like rubbing stone.

”For instance, they claimed this underground world was created by them. To be honest, I’m a bit skeptical. If they’re truly that strong, able to easily dig out such a vast underground space, why would they bother with the giant beasts?”

This indeed was a bit of an odd point.

”Hey, I was just thinking the same thing,” Wang Lei immediately concurred, ”Digging out such a vast underground space would require tools, right? If they have such powerful tools, their weapons should be strong too, right? With such strong weapons, why go to the trouble of conducting giant beast experiments?”

”You can’t say that,” Zhao Xiaochuan countered, ”Just like in our world, even though we have nuclear weapons, research on conventional weapons is still necessary.”

”That’s because the destructive power and pollution of nuclear weapons are too great, and it’s an unspoken rule that they’re not used,” Wen Guixin joined the discussion, ”We’re all human, no need to go to such extremes, so they’re mostly used for mutual deterrence. But this Blood Pattern Race clearly wants to invade, right? For invasion, there’s no need to worry about excessive killing, right?”

Lou Fei’Er also spoke up, ”That’s right. In fact, they have killed many, and even if they want to colonize, considering pollution...”

She pointed upwards, ”This underground world doesn’t seem to have any pollution issues, right? I also find it hard to believe that this underground world was dug out by them.”

Indeed.

Xu Xin nodded.

If they truly dug it out, that would be terrifying, making any resistance seem unnecessary.

Creating such an underground world would be overly exaggerated, almost as difficult as destroying a planet.

Don’t be fooled by sci-fi films frequently depicting planet-destroying cannons; in reality, destroying a planet that’s existed for tens to hundreds of billions of years isn’t easy. An asteroid can only make a dent, after all.

On Earth, the most terrifying weapon humans currently control, nuclear, is still insignificant compared to Earth.

Humans might destroy themselves, but for Earth, even if all nuclear weapons exploded, it would merely be like scratching an itch.

A sunspot on the Sun holds energy equivalent to tens or even hundreds of billions of megaton nuclear bombs.

And this star is evidently much larger than Earth. To hollow out a gigantic space thousands of meters high beneath this star, destabilizing its foundation just to cultivate giant beasts...

This is genuinely much more difficult than making nuclear weapons.

This truly is an achievement capable of destroying a planet.

Yet, if the Blood Pattern Race can accomplish such feats, why obsess over giant beasts, and why select people from their survivors?

Thinking this way, the Blood Pattern Race doesn’t seem as terrifyingly powerful as imagined.

Of course, regardless, the Blood Pattern Race still isn’t something they can currently contend with.

But if they didn’t dig this underground themselves, at least it’s not so despairing.

”Alright, you can discuss these matters later.” Chang Yin interrupted everyone’s words and thoughts before stating his purpose, ”My reason for helping you is quite simple. It’s purely because you’re likely... to help us leave here. Since you’re survivors, you surely won’t stay underground forever; you must be... planning to return to the surface, to the treehouse, right?”

Xu Xin nodded, ”That’s right. Our goal is to find the way back to the surface, and if so, taking you out with us is no problem.”
