Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 652: Chapter 443: Sound Waves with Tremendous Destructive Power!

”Boom!”

He merely clicked on the ground outside the cylindrical metal prison, not expecting the entire prison to begin shaking!

”Eep!” Keke leaped onto his shoulder, crying out in fear, ”Eep eep?! Eep eep eep!”

It seemed to sense some danger, appearing extremely panicked.

”What happened?!”

”Is it an earthquake?!”

”Get back!”

Voices from Wen Guixin and the others echoed from the depths of the hallway outside, urgent footsteps sounding.

What puzzled Xu Xin was that despite such a major commotion, the giant insects and beasts outside the prison remained motionless.

Not even an occasional cry could be heard anymore!

It was as if they were all afraid, completely terrified to make a sound.

What on earth is going on?

What just happened?

At that moment, the lit-up screen displayed a change.

He saw that the area around the spot he had just clicked, outside the originally flat ground of the prison, suddenly deformed!

The section he clicked on suddenly sank downwards, while the surrounding area began to bulge upwards, gradually enveloping it!

Indeed, the ground opened up right where he clicked, as if a giant mouth wanted to swallow whatever was on that spot!

Damn it, the ground, it’s alive!

Moreover, it can be manipulated to deform using the screen’s pull?!

Just what kind of creature is this?!

Then, the deformation of the soft ground outside the prison abruptly accelerated, and in an instant, that giant mouth snapped shut, rapidly returning the entire ground to flatness.

However, at this time, the trembling underfoot intensified!

Simultaneously, he heard a sound.

”————”

A particularly low and terrifying sound, distinctly reached his ears.

”————”

His brow furrowed sharply, breathing becoming a bit labored, feeling dizzy, nauseous, and short of breath.

It was the first time he heard such a sound, too low, too unsettling!

”————”

Xu Xin covered his mouth, struggling against the vertigo and nausea, while reaching out to support himself against the wall.

So uncomfortable!

”Eep eep!” Keke became even more frantic, directly burrowing into Xu Xin’s arms, shivering uncontrollably.

Xu Xin held Keke and slowly slid down the wall to sit.

He opened his mouth, taking deep breaths, breathing very rapidly, as if his head might explode, feeling as though his internal organs were under attack.

So uncomfortable!

Is this caused by the sound?!

Such a terrifying sound!

Is the source of this sound... underground?!

...He seemed to have guessed the source of the sound!

It’s... the massive creature under the prison, crying out?!

The giant soft creature, which they had stepped on countless times, was crying out!

Its cry was prolonged and low, as if filled with intense dissatisfaction.

Thankfully, on the screen, there were no unusual occurrences on the outside ground, which remained perfectly flat.

However, since the screen depicted a simple line-perspective view, the true situation could not be seen clearly.

Finally, the sound ceased, and gradually the surroundings became calm.

Xu Xin rubbed his head, breathing slightly trembling, calming himself.

Keke lay in his arms, also trembling slightly, letting out a muffled ”Eep...”

”What happened, Brother Xin?!”

Zhao Xiaochuan was the first to rush into the control room.

He ran back faster than both of the others.

His face was pale, suggesting he was also affected by that sound just now.

Xu Xin stood up against the wall, rubbed his still-dizzy head, and pounded his heart which felt a step slower, a bit sluggish, saying, ”I’ll explain once they’re all here. How about you, did that sound just now affect you much?”

”Sound? Was there a sound just now? But I suddenly had a headache and felt nauseous, and my body just felt uncomfortable everywhere.” Zhao Xiaochuan swallowed, then gagged slightly, ”Suddenly felt awful, don’t know why...”

Xu Xin froze slightly, asking, ”You didn’t hear the sound just now? It was like some creature was crying out.”

Shouldn’t they have heard it?

Even though he had amplified hearing, that sound was quite loud.

Even without amplified hearing, they should have been able to hear such a loud sound, right?

”Huh? Sound of some creature crying out? Nope, didn’t hear anything,” Zhao Xiaochuan shook his head in confusion, then rubbed his own head, ”I really didn’t hear anything.”

”But you felt uncomfortable.” Xu Xin raised an eyebrow, asking.

”Hmm, it’s just... all of a sudden it feels really uncomfortable?”

Xu Xin gently took a breath.

This sound definitely truly exists.

As for why only he can hear the sound and Zhao Xiaochuan cannot...

He probably knows why.

It’s probably because this sound is something normal people cannot capture under usual circumstances.

Infrasound!

Infrasound refers to sound waves with frequencies between 0.0001Hz and 20Hz.

And the human hearing range is 20-20000Hz.

This is a sound wave outside the human hearing range!

As for why Xu Xin can hear this sound...

It’s because he currently has hearing amplification!

Hearing amplification has even expanded his auditory frequency range!

This is why he can hear this sound, which even at the loudest would be undetectable by human ears!

The symptoms they just experienced are basically consistent with the harm caused by infrasound.

Infrasound at certain intensity can stimulate the human nervous system, causing fear, agitation, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, difficulty swallowing, loss of appetite, fatigue, weak energy, and tinnitus.

Moreover, certain frequencies of infrasound can resonate with the vibration frequency of human organs, causing strong harm to the body, and at extreme danger, it can even cause death!

At the same time, infrasound has a low frequency, decays very slowly, and has a long wavelength, allowing it to bend around certain large structures via diffraction, and some infrasounds can even circle the Earth several times.

On Earth, sound weapons are made based on the principles of infrasound.

This is an extremely terrifying sound that can kill invisibly.

Unexpectedly, the soft creature beneath the prison, just by emitting sound, is a lethal weapon, posing such a huge threat to them!

”So what exactly is going on, Brother Xin?” Zhao Xiaochuan’s complexion had improved slightly, ”Not just us, but those bugs outside are extremely strange too, they’re huddled in the corner motionlessly, and even those giant beasts are lying still on the ground, seemingly afraid of something.”

”It was my accidental operation just now.”

Xu Xin rubbed the little head of Keke, who was still trembling in his arms.

The behavior of the underground creature in the prison matched his speculation.

If the sound just now was the sound of the giant beast, then the fear in these underground creatures seemed normal.

They are confined in the prison and cannot run around, so other than trembling and playing dead, they can’t do much else.

Then Wen Guixin and Wang Lei arrived.

”What happened?”

”Xu Xin, did you press some button? Hey, why is the screen on?”

The two of them walked into the control room and immediately saw the activated screen.

Wen Guixin immediately walked over to examine the screen and then turned to Xu Xin, asking, ”So what button did you press just now? I almost thought this prison was going to be launched like a rocket, and I’m dizzy with rockets!”

Their complexions were also a bit pale, after all, they were also affected by the infrasound attacks a while ago.

Although they couldn’t hear the sound, these effects were very real.

Fortunately, everyone present was not ordinary, and this metal prison had blocked most of the sound, so the angry roars a moment ago did not have too much impact on them.

After recovering, it was simply uncomfortable.

”Let’s go out and have a look, I’ll tell you as we walk.”

As they walked out the passage and looked out over the soft ground, Xu Xin had already explained to them what had just happened.

”So...” Wen Guixin pointed at the soft ground below with some disbelief, ”The reason for the shake and for our discomfort was all because of this big guy below!”

”Isn’t this kind of scary...?” Wang Lei looked straight down at the soft ground, gulping.

”Just its roar made us... this uncomfortable? And we are inside the prison. If we were outside, directly exposed to the sound attacks...” Zhao Xiaochuan also couldn’t imagine.

The ground outside had already returned to calm, completely obscuring the fact it had deformed just now and opened a ”big mouth.”

The four exchanged looks.

They still hadn’t figured out what they were supposed to do, but dangers kept revealing themselves one after another.

This place is truly dangerous!

No wonder it’s an underground facility...

”Whee...” Keke finally regained her senses and lifted her little head from Xu Xin’s embrace, glancing at the ground below before burying it again, letting out a muffled sound, ”Whee!”

Keke probably knew from the very beginning that this was the roar of the giant beast.

Wait...

If it was indeed a roar...

Might it contain some meaning?

”Keke!” Xu Xin lifted Keke to his face.

”Whee?!” Keke was suddenly lifted up, startled.

Without any sense of security while being held up, she immediately began to struggle, ”Whee whee whee!”

”Can you hear the roar just now, Keke? Did it contain any meaning?” Xu Xin asked, staring into Keke’s eyes.

If Keke can understand other creatures’ speech, then if the sound just now contained any meaning...

Keke stopped struggling, wagged her big tail twice, blinked twice, and nodded her little head, ”Whee!”

It can actually understand!
