Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 649: Chapter 440 Absurd and Funny Situation

Why did Wang Lei awaken directly in this area after falling here, instead of being imprisoned?

Because the handlers and administrators of this prison were all dead.

The grotesquely dead furry creatures before him were undoubtedly the administrators of this prison.

After all, a few of them died inside the room that managed the cells.

As for why they all died...

They touched Wen Guixin’s body and got infected by the mental toxin.

Good heavens!

It turns out that the staff maintaining the order of the underground prison were all unintentionally killed by Wen Guixin!

His mind raced; he had already guessed the course of these events.

Perhaps, initially, only two or three were infected.

Just as Wen Guixin said, she only sensed a few people touching her before they were poisoned and fell.

Later, she was transferred to the prison in another manner.

But it’s important to know that creatures infected by the mental toxin can be commanded by Wen Guixin to attack their own kind!

Moreover, the blood from injuries inflicted on themselves or by them on others is a medium for spreading the mental toxin.

Perhaps at that time, in a dazed state, Wen Guixin didn’t give such an order.

But because she was always using her toxin to infect enemy units and then immediately have them turn on their own kin, even in a muddle-headed state, upon seeing a creature being infected, she would subconsciously think this way.

Have them quickly kill their own.

It might have been this very thought that led to the self-destruction among these furry creatures.

How could they have known that their own suddenly turned traitor?

The furry creatures on the ground bore more or less some scars and splattered traces of dried blood.

Mental toxins spread through these means.

And precisely because of this, Wang Lei could wake up here after falling into a trap and passing out, spending his comatose time here.

Because all those who could transport him into the cells were dead.

Thus, he managed to find the entrance to the cells from outside, encountered Xu Xin, and even brought him out from the cells.

Xu Xin thought of this and couldn’t help but laugh.

This is truly theatrical.

Unexpectedly, even when they fell into a coma, Wen Guixin still helped them solve a huge problem.

Moreover, thinking back, when he moved back and forth in the underground prison without finding or encountering anything, it made perfect sense.

If these administrators were alive, it would have been quite difficult for him to stroll back and forth in the underground prison.

These administrators might have released prison insects to attack him.

And if the cell door imprisoning insects was opened, perhaps he could have discovered something inside, rather than exploring for so long without finding anything.

In short, in a word.

Wen Guixin’s ”Empress” directly killed off the administrators responsible for this event, the game’s GMs.

Leading to the absurd situation we have now.

This is indeed a bit amusing.

This event has gone completely off the rails!

Wait a minute...

Xu Xin’s brows furrowed slightly.

If this dungeon, this event, indeed had real administrators...

Would the previous events also have had them...

”Brother Xin, over here!” Wang Lei called from a spot about ten meters away, waving to him.

Simultaneously, he looked at Keke, who was already standing beside him on the ground, somewhat surprised, ”Hey, little one, you found it too?”

”Hehe!” Keke stood up, puffing out his little chest.

Xu Xin walked over, looking at a roughly five or six square meter marked area outlined with a white line on the edge, and thought knowingly, ”Gravity mechanism?”

”Exactly! This thing can be used as a lift. When I came up, I used this. I searched all around below to find this mechanism,” Wang Lei pointed at the marked area on the ground.

So, it was a gravity mechanism that allowed descent to that outer region.

For this event, it seems the gravity mechanisms are all like elevators.

Whether it was the big mechanism in the metal room before or the small gravity mechanism among the vine bundles, they all functioned like elevators.

This is quite convenient indeed.

Of course, elevators are inconsequential for Xu Xin now.

He could just jump down from here directly.

Not to mention the soft ground outside that cushions any falling creatures trapped above.

Even if the ground wasn’t soft, with his current enhanced jumping power and infinite cushioning ability, jumping from fifty meters wouldn’t cause any injury at all.

”Why not just try jumping down?” Xu Xin teased, ”Didn’t you say the ground below is soft?”

”Please, no, Brother Xin.” Wang Lei scratched the back of his head awkwardly, ”It’s fifty meters, quite frightening. Don’t think that just because I climbed that stone peak, I’m not a bit afraid of heights. During the climb, I didn’t dare look back, and after climbing it, I became even more terrified. Jumping down from here would be too intense.”

Alright, this is mountain-climbing PTSD, isn’t it?

Fifty or sixty meters high, nearly twenty floors, is indeed a bit stimulating.

The two stepped into the area together.

A familiar ”click” sound followed.

Then, the floor beneath them slowly began to descend.

Another click was heard, triggering the gravity mechanism, and their feet felt light as the whole mechanism descended quickly.

They seemed to be riding a transparent, unsecured elevator, watching the ground rapidly approach outside.

Before long, they reached the bottom of the circular space.

As Xu Xin stepped onto the ground, he felt the peculiarity.

It felt as if he was stepping on soft jelly.

His foot sank half a foot into it, then bounced back up.

The entire surface appeared as soil’s brownish-black color, but his steps made it feel more like chocolate-flavored jelly.

”Eek...” Keke seemed to dislike walking on this kind of ground, taking two steps before jumping directly onto Xu Xin’s shoulder.

Walking on this soft and fluffy ground indeed gives one an uncomfortable feeling.

It feels as if the ground beneath was like writhing flesh.

This type of ground, he seemed to have only felt it before in a haunted house at amusement parks.

Suddenly stepping on it would give someone a surprise with its softness.

No wonder Keke didn’t like it.

Xu Xin squatted down and lightly touched the soft ground.

The texture was somewhat rough, but indeed very soft; a light press would deform it.

However, there weren’t any prompts.

Speaking of which...

They weren’t really stepping on a lump of flesh, right?

Stepping on... the back of a giant beast?

Ahaha...

How could that be possible?

The back of a giant beast couldn’t possibly be this soft.

Even though he thought this way, cold sweat was already forming on Xu Xin’s forehead.

The more he thought about it, the more terrifying it felt.

His identification ability couldn’t detect living creatures, only materials from dead creatures.

And this ground, just happened to be undetectable.

Sh*t, if beneath this ground really was the body of some giant beast, that would be too terrifying, right?!

Xu Xin shook his head, temporarily dismissing the thought from his mind.

But his steps were getting faster.

”What’s up, Brother Xin? Why are you walking so fast?” Wang Lei caught up with him.

”This should be the lowest level of the underground prison. Maybe we can find the door to open Zhao Xiaochuan and Wen Guixin’s cells from the inside.” Xu Xin spoke while walking.

”A door? There shouldn’t be any doors here, right?” Wang Lei said, ”I circled below several times before discovering the gravity mechanism to step on and rise up; I found nothing else.”

”There might be other mechanisms.” Xu Xin patted Keke’s small head, ”Keke, it’s up to you, see if there’s anything special here.”

The prison managers were all dead; he didn’t know if new managers would come, but for now, they had to rely on themselves to explore this dungeon.

Looking at it this way, the death of prison managers wasn’t entirely beneficial.

Perhaps if they were alive, they could have given some information.

”Eek!” Keke responded immediately, jumping off his shoulder.

But upon landing on the soft ground, it let out another ”Eek!” and jumped back onto Xu Xin’s shoulder.

”...Keke, do you know what this soft ground beneath us is?”

Watching Keke’s behavior made Xu Xin feel even more uneasy.

This little one’s actions didn’t seem to be just because the ground was uncomfortable; rather...

Was it scared?

”Eek...” Keke shook its little head, indicating it didn’t know, but just didn’t want to walk down on its own.

”What’s wrong with this ground?” Wang Lei stomped on it, even jumped, ”It’s fun, soft and bouncy, kids would surely love this place, right?”

Xu Xin’s eyelids twitched as he hurried to stop him: ”Enough, don’t jump, let’s quickly search for the mechanisms around.”

The two continued walking along the edges of the dungeon.

Xu Xin planned that if he couldn’t find any mechanisms, he’d eat the only purple-tier red berry left in his backpack to get a perspective on this metal prison and find where the mechanisms were.

But he was still hesitant, one because he only had this one berry, and two...

This metal prison emitted purple light from the upper part and golden light from the lower part.

Especially here on the lowest level, the golden light was even more dazzling than above.

Could the purple-tier red berry really see through gold-tier materials?

”Eek!” Keke suddenly cried out.

”Found the mechanism?” Xu Xin felt slightly delighted.

”Eek!” Keke’s little paw pointed at a section of the wall.

Xu Xin immediately took two steps forward and reached out to touch it.

[Mechanical Mechanism (Gold): An emergency mechanical mechanism, press firmly to trigger, but requires significant force. Once triggered, it will open the inner door of the survivor’s cell on the lowest level of the underground prison.]

An emergency mechanical mechanism? A survivor’s cell?

It must be correct!

This is the mechanism leading to the cell holding those two people!

Xu Xin pressed down hard.

But...

It didn’t move.

Only pressed the mechanism down slightly.

Then, as his force lessened, it rebounded.

”...Wang Lei, you’re stronger; you try pressing. This is an emergency mechanism requiring force.” Xu Xin stepped aside woefully.

”Needs force? Let me do it!” Wang Lei also reached out to touch and received a prompt, ”Emergency mechanism? Pressing will activate it? What will it trigger, pressing won’t cause any trouble, right?”

He didn’t have an identification ability, couldn’t see the latter part of Xu Xin’s description.

”Just press it, I’ve got detailed information, this is the place leading to the cell holding those two people.”

”Alright! Then I’ll press it!”

Wang Lei trusted Xu Xin very much, immediately exerted force to press it down.

”D*mn, this button, it’s quite hard to press!” He exerted more strength.

”Creak... creak... creak!”

With his pressing, some mechanical sounds came from inside the underground prison, even the soft ground beneath them felt slight vibrations, and then...

A door opened right before the two of them.
