Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 648: Chapter 439: Perimeter Trap Space!

”You know, I’m also quite baffled. Why did Brother Xin end up in the prison?” Wang Lei scratched his head, somewhat confused.

Xu Xin turned over the corpse of the furred humanoid on the ground, thought for a moment, and then stored these corpses in his wristband.

It’s the first time he’s gotten the corpse of a furred humanoid. When back, I’ll let Qi Xuefei study the structure; if that doesn’t work, we can at least carve out some materials.

Wang Lei began to recount his experience.

His journey here was pretty much the same as Xu Xin’s.

He too decided at first glance to head towards the center of the vine cluster.

However, as his ability merely granted him immense strength, he cautiously proceeded along the way.

Yet, like Xu Xin, during his journey, he didn’t draw the attention of the surrounding giant beasts and insects. Also, unlike Xu Xin, he didn’t unluckily encounter a river blocking the path, and he came over smoothly.

Upon hearing this, Xu Xin felt slightly speechless.

So, it turns out he was the only one who encountered a polluted river.

Zhao Xiaochuan and Wang Lei didn’t encounter it, and he hadn’t asked Wen Guixin about her experiences before reaching the vine cluster, but he guessed she didn’t encounter it either.

Just what was in that polluted river?

”Then, I came over without any danger,” Wang Lei continued, ”but didn’t expect to tumble right before the finish line!”

”...Did you also fall into a trap?”

Xu Xin was currently touching the screen of the metal room, with no sign of activation, and upon hearing Wang Lei, he turned to ask.

By now, he had examined the surrounding sophisticated instruments, though too complex to understand, he was roughly clear about their basic functions.

Each instrument could control several prison cells.

This indeed was the control room for all the prison cells.

”Yeah! So, Brother Xin, you fell down too, right?” Wang Lei slapped his palm, ”Now our experiences are the same. That trap was really scary, you just fell suddenly!”

”I’m different from you, I came through the vine cluster. But, I met Zhao Xiaochuan and Wen Guixin in the prison, and their experience was similar to yours.” Xu Xin tapped the screen a couple more times.

The screen remained unresponsive, seemingly not something survivors like them could operate.

”What? Those two are inside too?!” Wang Lei immediately walked to the door to look outside, ”Where are they now?”

Xu Xin told him about their situation.

He told him that they woke up in the prison.

”Damn, that’s what’s going on! No wonder there are these furred humanoids’ corpses here; they actually dared to touch Sister Gui Xin,” Wang Lei looked at the corpses on the ground, with a face of deservedness and laughed, ”Haha, they were really unlucky, directly poisoned to death. Zhao Xiaochuan as well came early and went inside early. Now should we let the two of them out?”

Xu Xin was already closely examining these sophisticated instruments by now.

But these things seemed overly complicated, with buttons of various colors lacking any labels, he simply didn’t know how to press them.

These things can’t be pressed randomly...

What if he released all the other creatures from their cages, that would be troublesome.

Xu Xin and Wang Lei studied for half a day but couldn’t figure out anything useful.

Even after a look at the prison corridor, knowing a bunch of giant insects were locked outside, and even some giant beasts, Wang Lei dared not easily press anything.

Their confusion about what to do was apparent.

”Why don’t we go see those two people first?” Wang Lei suggested.

”No need.” Xu Xin shook his head, ”I have already checked on those two. They’re very safe now, and the prison can’t be opened from the outside.”

Protected by the gold-level prison, even if giant beasts got out, they probably wouldn’t be in much danger.

”Then...” Wang Lei felt a bit dejected, ”What should we do then? We can’t just try randomly; what if we release the giant beasts...”

Xu Xin turned to look at the already dead furred humanoid on the ground.

These guys must have known how to operate it, right.

Too bad, they’re dead.

Could there be no other operators?

”Let’s hold on a bit regarding this. I’m more curious about why you’re here.” Xu Xin asked in a puzzled tone, ”Didn’t you also fall into a trap?”

Evidently, those who fell were locked in the prison, yet Wang Lei, instead, was in this control room?

”Ah? I don’t know either?” Wang Lei was scratching his head in perplexity, ”When I fell, I indeed fainted too, but when I woke up, I was outside... Oh!”

He slapped his hand: ”Your experience is different from mine, so you haven’t seen the outside scene, right? Come with me then! I didn’t wake up here.”

The outside scene?

”Ong!” Keke led the way.

Wang Lei maneuvered through a bunch of sophisticated machines, heading to a corner of the room, where Xu Xin then noticed a narrow passage.

The passage was small, for someone as broad-shouldered as Wang Lei, he could only enter sideways, and for his nearly two-meter height, he had to constantly stoop.

”Just pass through this passage, it’s right next door.” With a slight stoop, he entered the passage.

Xu Xin followed him, and Keke had already squeezed through the passage ahead.

”Is the other side of this passage another prison control room?” Xu Xin asked while slightly turning sideways as he walked.

”You’ll know once we get outside; you’ll definitely be astonished!” Wang Lei’s voice brimmed with confidence.

The passage wasn’t long, after walking a few dozen meters, they exited.

Then, it suddenly became broader, the sight instantly brightened up significantly.

”This...”

Xu Xin’s eyes widened, greatly startled by the sight before him.

He truly didn’t expect that what awaited outside the control room would be this kind of scene!

In front was a very spacious area.

Compared to the dark dungeon, it’s much brighter and more expansive, at least spanning two hundred meters.

And...

He looked downwards.

This space is not only wide, but also deep.

It’s at least fifty to sixty meters deep.

He looked back and to the sides.

Behind him, this prison he just walked out from...

From his current position, it can generally be seen that this is actually a metal cylinder nearly a hundred meters in diameter!

A cylindrical building located underground!

And now, he is at the very top layer of this cylindrical building!

Moreover, it’s like standing on a balcony, overlooking the scenery here!

This view was indeed unexpected for him.

He didn’t expect that outside this underground prison, there would be such a scene.

The perimeter of the cylindrical prison is surrounded by a circular space at least five to six meters high and two hundred meters wide.

The entire one hundred meter diameter cylindrical underground metal prison stands in the very center of this space!

The entire space seems to have hollowed out the underground within the two hundred meter range surrounding the prison.

Xu Xin looked up.

He is now very close to the ground, only about three meters away.

The ground of the underground world is now right above his head.

However, what’s above his head is not soil, not rock, but...

A whole complete piece of metal!

Metal replaces the entire surface above this area, putting the whole space under the cover of metal.

Also, this metal is emitting a white light, similar to the white light from a gap over a thousand meters above in the sky outside.

Because it’s very close, the white light is somewhat glaring.

Xu Xin suddenly realized!

No wonder!

No wonder Keke suddenly stopped him when he got about two hundred meters close to the vine bundle.

Keke must have detected the anomaly in the ground!

Because the ground around the vine bundle, although covered by a layer of slightly red contaminated soil, is actually all metal underneath!

The entire underground surrounding the vine bundle is a huge trap!

Once you step into it, you will directly fall into this place!

And Wang Lei’s words confirmed his suspicion.

”After stepping into the void and falling down, I fell into a coma, and when I woke up, I was here.” Wang Lei pointed to the ground below and said, ”It should be that I fell directly here. The ground below seems to be made of some special material, relatively soft, so even if you fall, you won’t get hurt.”

”So that’s how it is...”

By now, Xu Xin understood the structure of this underground prison.

The underground of this area has all been hollowed out.

Within this hollowed range, the center is the cylindrical prison, while the perimeter is the trap.

When external creatures fall into this trap, they will fall into a coma due to some unknown factor and land on the soft ground of this outside space.

At this time, the ”staff” in the prison will transfer the comatose creatures in some way to the cylindrical prison in the center through transportation or operating precise instruments in the control room.

By the time they wake up, they’ve already been imprisoned in the jail.

Zhao Xiaochuan and Wen Guixin’s experiences were undoubtedly like this.

There were some small episodes when Wen Guixin was transported.

However...

Why wasn’t Wang Lei imprisoned in the jail? Could it be...

”Brother Xin, we can walk around this big steel pillar and see what’s below in this whole space.” Wang Lei said to Xu Xin.

Their current position is equivalent to the balcony of the top floor of a cylindrical high building, and this balcony circles the building, naturally allowing them to walk around and see what’s below.

This facility similar to a ”balcony” should be used by the ”manager” of this area to observe what creatures fall into the net below.

Where are the prison managers then?

Why haven’t we seen a single one for so long?

Isn’t it really...

”Whimper!” Keke already circled around by himself, and at this moment, its voice sounded from the other side.

”Haha, seems like Keke discovered something!” Wang Lei laughed.

”Discovered what? The corpse of the fur monster person?” Xu Xin glanced at him and asked.

”Ah? Can you even guess that?” Wang Lei was taken aback.

Xu Xin quickly walked around.

On the ground, there were several corpses of fur monsters lying haphazardly.

”Whimper!” Keke’s voice came from ahead again, Xu Xin looked up and saw there were also several corpses over there.

And the death appearance of every corpse here...

Was the same as the fur monster person they just saw in that room.

All dry and shriveled, and their faces were purple, clearly poisoned.

”These fur monsters were also killed by Sister Gui Xin’s toxins, their deaths show it clearly.” Wang Lei kicked a corpse on the ground and said.

Xu Xin looked speechlessly at these corpses.

He has figured out the current situation thoroughly now.
