Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1298: Chapter 1089: Anmur’s Layers of Conspiracy

Wezlum was originally the Black Death, and his younger brother, Urzur, Hill remembered was nicknamed Greedy Plunderer.

Hill really didn’t expect that the Black Dragon Brothers would come to Sword Bay.

What surprised him even more was that, despite losing the lucrative trade route of Deepwater City-Neverwinter, they chose a more profitable sea route.

The most prosperous sea route of the Moonshadow Archipelago is exactly where they stayed… The Kowel people are very good at farming, while Anmur in the central part of Sword Bay and Kalinsan in the south really need food.

Although Anmur can import large quantities of agricultural products from the Mazteck Continent, that is still long-distance shipping. Any smart country wouldn’t give up on a nearby food exporting country.

In the past, the reason there were so many pirates around the Moonshadow Archipelago was that Anmur used them to blockade the coastline, not allowing other countries to compete for food… especially not to raise prices and snatch food.

These pirates who could sail and plunder couldn’t be compared to those poor walking traders on land; their equipment was simply not on the same level!

So, whether it’s collecting tolls or plundering pirates, it would definitely be better than robbing that group selling timber in Neverwinter.

As for Baal’s treasures… although some generous gifts from the Grim Reaper were lost, they could not only stay healthy and avoid being influenced by the undead but also do some mining for themselves, couldn’t they?

It’s known that the Black Death Brothers wouldn’t initially attack other dragons or adventurers passing by. When Tasding was causing trouble, they would occasionally hide over in the Sword Mountain Range.

But after the Magicplague, their approach became much more vicious.

Even though Black Dragons aren’t harmed by the undead’s aura and are quite adept at commanding these necromancy creatures, they aren’t completely unaffected… most Black Dragons just don’t care that they become more sinister and vicious.

From what Hill knew about these two dragons, without completely understanding their surrounding environment, this pair would definitely be very cautious. Normally, one dragon would insist on staying in the lair to protect their home.

They didn’t quite seem like evil Black Dragons in many ways. So trying to establish a harmonious relationship with the Undead Tribe was actually quite normal.

Moreover, the brothers are very good at digging holes, especially underwater ones that are interconnected… they must have discovered that mine long ago, and they surely know who is digging on the other side.

Tsk tsk~

No wonder, even after seeing Tiamat appear nearby, these two brothers still hid silently under the sea… they definitely didn’t want to attract attention from the likes of the Chromatic Dragon Queen, who loved taking treasures from her own kind’s lairs.

Hill clenched his hand into a fist and chuckled softly.

“Hill?” Celene keenly turned her head, “What are you laughing at?”

“Honorable Lady of Darkness, it truly saved the lives of these Black Dragon brothers!” Hill lowered his hand, revealing a gentle smile. “Otherwise, once the news about the mine spread, the misery from Tiamat rummaging through their home wouldn’t need to be mentioned… wouldn’t they be the perfect miners?

Being unafraid of water, adept at digging tunnels, and having known all along about the mineral veins here.

Tiamat would definitely capture them… although she wouldn’t use something as terrifying as a Dragon Ball to control them, the suppression control from the very pinnacle of their bloodline would also be a living death for these two rather interesting Black Dragons.

They should have fled to the Sword Bay area to escape Dragon Madness… actually, Black Dragons are the most likely type to become necromancy creatures, yet they never succumbed to the Dragon Worship Church to become Dragon Liches.

I guess it’s because they have some of their own ambitions and pride.

Dragon Lich, sounds good, but…”

“Necromancy…,” Lansendel suddenly laughed, “just holding an Order of Light treasure in your hand, even a child could drive away a necromancy creature above level 20.

Ah… of course, Chosen don’t count.”

This time, Hill really couldn’t suppress his smile… the appearance of the Divine Artifact, Blood of Lansendel, had always made many people ridicule him as a powerful divine power harmed by mortals.

But in reality, the harm to Lansendel was from the Silverfire Mystra left inside that Dragon Worship Leader Samast’s body.

And this Silverfire, its true source, was from the innocent-looking Celene who was laughing over there.

“When you sarcastically beat around the bush like this, Celene doesn’t understand.” Shaer finally appeared on her draped lounge chair, “Although she might play dumb, all she does is look at you cluelessly.”

“Why did it take you so long to return?” Celene resolutely cut off the topic she didn’t care about, “Did you go sing a love song solo for William?”

“Hmph~” Shaer looked disdainfully at her silly sister, “Why would I need to manifest for such trivialities?

In my world, there’s never an act of pointless redundancy.

Besides, do I need to explain to you?

What do you know?”

Celene was momentarily speechless, and after a while, said, “I’ve watched the Shuni Church for so many years, at least I can understand that much.”

Shaer elegantly rolled her eyes, stretching herself in her lounge chair with a lighthearted tone, “Shuni? Whether that’s love or lustful heat, who knows?

If you follow her style to find a lover, you’d do better to remain a Maiden of the Moon for life!

I took a trip to Kalinsan.”

“For the Imasca Mysteries?” Hill turned around, looking seriously at the Goddess of the Night.

“William said that Anmur would definitely go to my Temple of the Night God to rob it.” Shaer propped her face with slender hands, her fingers like budding bamboo shoots after the rain, clearly smiling gently yet giving a chilling impression, “In the Karin Desert, many of those sand thieves are Anmur’s pawns.

He is planning to have the Undead Tribe go over directly to help.

But I think it’s unnecessary for now.

When some things happen, whoever moves first will suffer.

It’s better to wait until my temple is attacked, then I will come forward to hire the Undead Tribe.

He’s… a bit worried!

So, naturally, I have to find a way to prevent him from worrying over such trivial matters.

Hmph~ The things originally prepared for Amanata, let Anmur have them this time.”

“I think the Anmur people, won’t be too pleased,” Lansendel said somewhat confusedly, “But… isn’t Anmur’s Midnight Elect even more ruthless in their style?

Aren’t they afraid of being raided by that, what’s his name, Abert, when they assault the Ancient Night Temple of Kalinsan?

How many women in Anmur are Followers of the Night, they probably don’t even dare to say?”

“Hehe~” Shaer laughed coldly, “Abert will only watch for a short time.

Anmur’s internal conflicts are very complex right now, if she accidentally kills someone and helps the other side, bringing Anmur back to a united state again, Abert may even ask me to lend him ‘A Thousand Petals in One Night.’

Hill smirked, directly going to the capital of the Kingdom of Anmur, Ascatra, to eradicate tens of thousands again?

He thought for a moment before asking, “Is Anmur acting this crazy because each has their own little plans, and completely disregards the other side?

The Vampire Castle’s actions this time clearly didn’t consider the stance of the entire Kingdom of Anmur, they acted too arrogantly.

When the Anmur Navy reaches Snowfall Island, wouldn’t that mean the entire conflict between Anmur and the Giant Dragons has escalated?

Although there aren’t many Giant Dragons settled in Anmur… those who dare to stay there are all powerful.”

Shaer smiled lightly: “Guess why the officer who killed Andreju lived in that small manor?

Why would the navy have the audacity to confront the King of Anmur and let him leave with his ship and followers, what was that all about?

Heh~

A lower-ranked officer killing the Crown Prince, regardless of the reason, when he leaves unscathed, what face does the King and Great Nobility have left?

Isn’t it said, fair or not, no king would allow such a sign that high-level power has slipped from his grasp to happen lightly.

If it can happen, it means he has lost absolute control over the nation.

You wouldn’t think that, for Anmur people, a woman encountering a bit of trouble is a loss, would you?

If it weren’t for the Undead Tribe… tightly blocking the sea areas of the Sword Bay region, do you suppose that proud little officer, who sliced the Crown Prince to pieces, would become one of the Pirate Kings of the Moonshadow Archipelago?

It’s just that he might be robbing more from Anmur Nobles, including the King of Anmur’s trade caravans… and no one found it strange why he did it.

What an interesting little hero~

It’s a pity, in this world, all exceptions mean… countless secret battles.

So, I find it uninteresting.”

Hill couldn’t help but be a little stunned… he hadn’t thought that much, at the time he actually felt pretty sympathetic towards the unlucky officer’s daughter, but to him, it was just a story, sounding pretty tragic but once it passed, it was gone.

After all, except for the doomed Andreju, everyone else was still alive.

In the realm of Toril, there’s no such thing as a chastity arch; most girls, when encountering such events, consider it as being bitten by a dog, get dressed and move on… outside of life and death, there are no major matters—even noblewomen.

In the end… he couldn’t hold back: “Did that officer know beforehand?”

“Anyone who accepted property from Andreju… didn’t have simple thoughts,” Shaer said carelessly, “Some people intended to extort a bit of money from that guy… once he got out, no matter how unhappy the King of Anmur was, he would have to take care of his foolish brother.

Much wealthier compared to a lower-ranked officer.

The rest, they wanted to skin that guy… the navy suffered too much because of him.

If there were Mulan, the current Anmur would have long suppressed Deepwater City and Kalinsan, becoming the strongest trading hub in Toril.

And the navy, owing to this thriving sea trade, would have become Anmur’s most powerful force.

See, the King of Anmur must be aware of this too, he… might actually be glad that his not-so-controlled navy missed such a great opportunity!”
