Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1255: Chapter 1046: Candlekeep Prepared for Arrival

”Do you prefer Candlekeep or the library?” The ’Old Age Striking King’ turned to ask Edna.

”Of course the library! Who wants such a dark castle? At the very least, it should be like Hill’s Floating Castle!” Edna stretched out her arm, ”If I had the money, I’d actually love a floating library made entirely of glass steel.

That kind of material, Kessexili can make it.

She said before I came out that once I completed my coming-of-age journey, she would use the materials accumulated over the years to ask Lord Hill to build me a Lord’s Mansion. Of course, it couldn’t all be made of something as expensive as glass steel.

But using glass steel as the main structure, paired with hardened crystal, and strengthened with starry sky glazed iron, should have a nice effect too.

Hard Wind wasn’t wrong, how much space do I actually need to live in? It would be better to build a floating library.

Then I could live in a world of books, falling asleep to the scent of books, wouldn’t that be wonderful!”

Edna thought longingly... then in her peripheral vision, she noticed a hurriedly Mage running out with a backpack... a splash of cold water instantly pulled her back to reality.

She gently closed her eyes: Hill would build a castle for the town’s governor for free, but wouldn’t take the initiative to build a temple for Mystra.

With a gentle sigh in her heart, Edna pondered. The mines in Josse Garden are quite rich; Hill’s penchant for collecting materials is well-known, so there should be a way to get him to help out.

But, under Mystra’s identity, she couldn’t just let Hill choose the type of building... Although Edna trusted Hill’s aesthetic sense, she knew very well that if she showed too much trust in Hill, it would cause trouble for the Lord of Agleya, who dislikes complications.

So... should she consider asking the Undead Tribe to draw the blueprints?

Being somewhat familiar with the Black Rose people, Edna knew a bit about their work in their world, and she’d also heard them gather in circles cursing those silly architectural designers... the result of overly imaginative blueprints.

So... they must be able to find a design with this kind of rich imagination, right?

”Speaking of which, what’s up with that Mithril Sphere?” The ’Old Age Striking King’ tilted his head and asked, ”Isn’t mithril shiny enough on its own? Why add broken diamonds?

Whose eyes are they trying to blind? Even the nouveau riche don’t have such terrifying taste.”

”Uh...” ’Cunlü’ placed a thick album on his head, looking at the sky with a gloomy face and said, ”Some people think women just love shiny stuff, especially after seeing how much money Hill makes with his beautiful jewelry, they thought they could do it too.

After all, it’s the magic arrays that really work. They felt that it was impossible to engrave on such small jewelry, but making some pretty ornaments with magical effects should be doable.

The idea was beautiful, and the effects were amazing, but even sold as a package for the cost price, they couldn’t sell them.

Wasn’t there a clearance sale of trash items recently? Just...”

”You bought it thinking you might find a fool Sorcerer Toril to spend big money on it to make a huge profit? If it were a gold sphere, there might be a chance?” ’Old Age Striking King’ sharply summarized, ”And now, you’ve got it stuck on your hands? No buyers?

Can’t even sell it for the cost price? Mithril... well, it is priced by the gram.

Can’t even be repurposed?

So, those broken diamonds and magic arrays ruined the original effect of the mithril?

So this little sphere... what’s it supposed to do now?”

”It does suit that Specter Dragon quite well,” ’Cunlü’ said reluctantly, ”It generates a white mist that not only blocks sunlight but also makes people lose their way.”

”Mithril plus broken diamonds?” Edna said thoughtfully, ”Doesn’t it also help with soul cohesion? For necromancy, that would indeed be quite good.

But with this kind of ability, that Mithril Sphere’s no longer worth cutting and repurposing, is it?

Sorcerer Toril is always savvy; this thing definitely has nothing to do with the Nyscroll, they definitely wouldn’t buy such costly warehouse fillers.”

’Cunlü’ gave a bittersweet smile, ”Later on, I came to understand that too.

I don’t have any other options, right? Those Red Robes and Shadow Souls can’t even get into the Ten Towns of Icewind.

Luckily, Feng found a good solution for that thing.”

Edna tilted her head, cautiously asking, ”Will Snow Cloud Peak compensate you for the price difference?”

”You’re overthinking it,” the ’Old Age Striking King’ said cheerfully, ”It’s definitely free! Otherwise, why use this cheap thing?

Who doesn’t have a few big pieces of Mithril?”

Edna blinked curiously: Has the Undead Tribe found a Mithril mine in some world?

If it were the old Edna, she might have asked out loud, but now with Midnight’s memories, she just smiled gently... In Toril, people might murder for a copper coin.

While the Undead Tribe certainly isn’t afraid of such messy matters, why cause trouble for their friends?

Everything is ready on the Undead Tribe’s side, just waiting for Candlekeep to stir up something... Judging from the obvious hostility those Quel Senta Female Mages have towards Manks, something is bound to happen.

What the Undead Tribe needs to do is, if things don’t escalate, add some fuel; if things already escalate, add more fire.

Meanwhile, standing outside the rarely wide-open castle gates to welcome the long-distance arriving carriages, Ullant had already put on a big smile... He was genuinely pleased that, before he had chosen a lady worthy of following, these people had all arrived together without prioritization.

At least on the surface, he was equally welcoming everyone, right?

It gave him some buffer time, so he wouldn’t choose the wrong person impulsively.

Ullant didn’t notice the waves rising behind him... Seeing that he really didn’t care about his reputation, standing there as a Oghma follower and Prophecy Mage to welcome women who didn’t even hold the title of Mistrala Elector, the Great Sage at the Knowledge God Monastery immediately turned and left, his face going from dark blue to completely black.

The Undead Tribe had completely lost interest in reading... Leaving three somewhat knowledge-interested mages among the mages, they huddled in the very bright front hall with the remaining guards of Devis and Luca, pointing and commenting on the tablet... Some nimble Undead Tribe members had even opened several live streams from better vantage points in the castle.

After all, the mages and scholars from Candlekeep watching Ullant from various places, their vivid expressions in those comprehensive close-ups, were quite worth appreciating.

”Where did the previous guards on these spots go?” Edna curiously asked the ’Old Age Striking King’.

”Over here,” the ’Old Age Striking King’ switched a few camera angles, revealing the castle wall facing the cliff... There were at least a hundred people all wearing robes, currently grouped in three or four piles, communicating.

Many ’Flexible Ropes’ were already hung down to the sea, proving these people had prepared for the worst.

”Ah... indeed, if it looks like everyone around is a fool, it proves the Wise Ones have all run away,” Nasir said slowly from behind a few ladies.

”Why did you come out?” Edna asked in confusion... She no longer needed the knowledge those books could provide, but wasn’t Nasir yet transcendent?

”This... atmosphere full of intrigue, how could I stay calm!” Nasir said with a smile, using a tone akin to a chant.

”Just your professional habit acting up!” Cunlü, also looking at a tablet, moved aside, glanced at him, and said, ”Tsk tsk~ are you trying to pick up some work here?

Although since you’re with us, those Mistrala Electors don’t want trouble.

But if you’re caught alone, we won’t have time to save you!

An Occult Follower fallen at the hands of a Mistrala Elector... how expected!

It’s like you can’t even voice a word of vengeance!”

Nasir’s mouth twitched slightly, he raised his hands and stepped back a bit: ”I’ll be careful from now on, stay away from the ladies.

Rest assured, I’ll never act alone, I’ll stick with Miss Edna and be the truce marker of the night.”

Cunlü pursed his lips, saying nothing more.

While Ullant didn’t really know how many people were watching him eagerly push Jason aside and stretch his hand to Manx, despite the fact that the ladies behind were prettier, for someone like him who had lived alongside the imagery of Mystra and her lesser gods, just the sight of this face meant that even if he favored one of the other ladies, he still had to show respect to Manks.

Just like the Mistrala Electors, no matter how much they curse this troublesome girl inwardly, they must maintain outward respect unless Mystra returns and publicly declares she’s unrelated to this girl... Until then, with both bloodline and soul clearly connected to some extent, Manks demands respect as an object of faith by Magic followers.

Ullant finally understood why so many Electors in Deepwater City were helpless regarding this little girl... It wasn’t because Elaströ and her peers were incompetent.

He could only helplessly smile at the beautiful ladies descending from the two carriages behind, after they returned a sympathetic smile, he gave one filled with gratitude.

”Tsk! What an entrance effect... tsk tsk~,” the ’Old Age Striking King’ shook his head, ”This Ullant has better acting skills than the Grand Eunuch in our court dramas!”

”Ah!” Edna chuckled, ”After all... He is ambitious! Hmm? Grand Eunuch, is that from the Shoulong Kingdom kind?

Hmm... quite similar indeed.”

”Are all Prophecy Mages failing?” Nasir commented with emotion, ”Candlekeep has long thrived thanks to a Prophecy Master, to be brought down by a Prophecy Mage, it’s quite... full circle.”
