Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Capítulo 1253: Chapter 1044: Ullant, Determined to Win

Edna tilted her head and thought for a moment, trying her best to use distinct mouth movements to tell ‘Snow Cloud Peak’: don’t do anything for now.

If there’s anything to be done, it has to wait until the group of women arrives, especially Manks. They must wait until Ullant respectfully invites her to his parlor for a grand discussion before anything is done.

And before that group of women arrives, they are… just some unrelated people visiting Candlekeep for sightseeing, utterly innocent and well-behaved!

‘Snow Cloud Peak’ rolled his eyes, quickly understanding Edna’s meaning, and revealed a sly smile, waved his hand, and turned to leave the room.

His steps were light and brisk… In this library, the books he was interested in, he couldn’t open, and the ones he could open… those spell analysis books, what did he need them for?

His head was aching from reading, just to increase his spell attack power?

However, to him, that bit of attack power was meaningless.

Snow Old Dog, though stubborn, actually understood his own limits… He could see the ever-changing battlefield, but couldn’t aim at a target within twenty meters.

So most of his spells were all about group attacks and adding various auxiliary buffs… The most tragic thing was, even when it came to support, he only dared to use group types.

If he added individually… probably only the enemy would be happy.

Therefore, in this world without aiming aids, the one who suffered the most was him… the Undead Tribe hated it the most when someone went AFK during a fight, but… if it were him, most people would beg him to quickly go AFK.

‘Snow Cloud Peak’ decided to go outside and make some battle preparations… Hard Wind’s broadcast made the freedom-loving Undead Tribe very sympathetic towards that Ancient Silver Dragon wanting to return to the white clouds; the ‘battle’ comments were already flooding the screen.

Anyway, Edna didn’t seem to care what they did, as long as she could shift the blame away, which… was a small matter for him!

While waiting for those talkative women to appear in front of the Great Library, he could also take a look at those interesting little stories… Although he wasn’t interested in Hard Wind’s kind of parenting books, he was very interested in ‘Perfect Baldy’s’ “The Beautiful Mansion of Fiery Hair”!

Tsk tsk, the life of Toril people was quite… colorful.

It’s said that the label on that bookshelf was ‘Pool of Radiance’? Snow Old Dog thought very earnestly, the name seemed familiar!

He would have to look up the information later, so they wouldn’t be strangers next time they meet.

Walking a few circles around the sunlit foyer of the Great Library, ‘Snow Cloud Peak’ lightly swiped his finger on the tablet… Thankfully, William hadn’t turned off the map function… he looked around and found Candlekeep’s defenses a bit odd.

Where there were people, they were all in pairs, and where there were none, dust was piling up.

Recalling Nasir’s words, he shook his head gently… two monks fetch no water, this place would surely fall apart sooner or later.

According to the speed of the Undead Tribe, ‘Snow Cloud Peak’ thought for a moment… better notify them to depart from Agleya now!

After all, when passing through Deepwater City, he suspected that a large number of people would stop by, and that would delay things considerably.

Then on the way to Candlekeep, although some might rush over directly, ‘Snow Cloud Peak’ absolutely didn’t doubt that those departing with the main group would stop to take pictures, see the roadside scenery, and tease the little animals along the way.

They might even swim in the sea, have a race.

So… if they could gather by tomorrow morning, it would mean they were fast.

‘Snow Cloud Peak’ rubbed his hands with some difficulty… making a fuss wasn’t hard but controlling the rhythm precisely was a bit troublesome.

He looked down and tapped on the tablet… Brother Hard Wind, let’s see how much you can do!

If that Specter Dragon betrayed… the Undead Tribe wasn’t afraid of working for nothing, after all, it wasn’t the first or second time, everyone would just be happy.

But they couldn’t do a good deed and still get blamed, right?

At this moment, Hard Wind had already put himself in his best business state… as a small boss of a moderately famous advertising company, he certainly had a set of phrases for communicating with clients.

When introducing his side, he was eloquent, and when reassuring the other side, he would certainly make them feel he was ’empathetic’.

He truly sympathized with this Specter Dragon but absolutely wouldn’t risk his own benefits for goodwill… although this was just a game, and so-called benefits were just virtual assets, the hurt feelings were no different.

It’s one’s own business to be willing to give, ‘Hard Wind’ never uses others’ things to do good deeds.

Fortunately, Mirimum is a very standard Silver Dragon… perhaps if she weren’t so innocent and romantic, willing to self-restrict in the Silver Dragon’s style, she wouldn’t have been deceived by that Great Magician to such an extent back then… years ago, when she was hunting near Candlekeep, she tore apart the scholars transporting books and a portion of the books themselves.

Then the Archmage Tors found her and defeated her… Silver Dragons have always had a knightly demeanor, willing to accept the consequences of a bet, so Mirimum accepted the punishment of being bound as a Protector for twenty years at Candlekeep.

However, in the fifteenth year, Tors died… no one could break the magic that bound Mirimum… how could it be?

Everyone knows this was just an excuse for the archmages to have a permanent Gatekeeper.

Tors was indeed a powerful mage, but not to say of all Toril, even on the Ferun Great Land, and in Candlekeep and nearby, there were archmages stronger than him!

And then… deceived, Mirimum died in battle to protect Candlekeep against enemies from Kalinsan.

Of course, the final result was quite satisfying… the magic that pit her for a lifetime ended up turning Mirimum into a Specter Dragon, returning once more!

This time, the scholars and mages of Candlekeep were truly afraid, and they frantically wanted to eliminate the Specter Dragon or break her control.

However, how to put it… the archmages of Candlekeep with that capability have all died of old age.

And those outside, such as Elminster or Azuth, those super strong individuals, and those archmages with some hope of killing a Silver Dragon… including the most scheming Kelben, they all, in the end, had one attitude: they didn’t help the Silver Dragon in the beginning, and now they wouldn’t help Candlekeep.

Even Mystra and Oghma remained silent on this matter, not responding to any priest’s prayers.

Finally, the mages of Candlekeep, expending immense effort, managed to confine Mirimum to the underground passages and labyrinth… they themselves couldn’t even appear to violate the Candlekeep agreement, or Mirimum could eliminate anyone who dared infringe upon Candlekeep’s interests, per the agreement she made with Tors.

If not, even the safest underground fortress of Candlekeep wouldn’t be entirely given over to Mystra’s followers… after all, these newcomers were not Mirimum’s true enemies. That Silver Dragon, who could easily go mad after becoming an Undead, could see them with a bit more composure, causing less trouble.

The ghostly Mirimum still loved her sky… but she had actually given up this longing… for so long, she had yearned and trusted countless times, only to be met with disappointment and betrayal.

The reason she was so friendly towards ‘Hard Wind’ was partially because the Undead Tribe carried very little of the Toril people’s scent, and another reason was that Silver Dragons are inherently creatures that cherish younglings the most.

The young dragon scent clinging to ‘Hard Wind’ was filled with joy… even if they were just some White Dragon whelps, Mirimum felt delighted.

Moreover, she could sense those two Golden Dragons and Mercury Dragons were not that old, yet lived very happily.

Although Metal Dragons are very powerful upon adulthood, in a place like Toril, to live so joyfully, Mirimum would have thought only in Bahamut’s Northern Wind Country!

Because of these reasons, Mirimum concluded that ‘Hard Wind’ must be a very loving and good man… even in a place like Candlekeep, reading children’s bedtime stories, a genuinely good man!

This kind of ‘Hard Wind’ ignited the idea in Mirimum to take another gamble… ever since becoming a specter, in these hundreds of years, she never attempted to find a kind soul to save her again!

Though the reason seemed somewhat incredible… ‘Hard Wind,’ when realizing this Specter Dragon’s special regard for him, his face changed so much it could make all flat-faced members of the Undead Tribe laugh holding their stomachs… but this result was precisely what they wanted, no matter how complicated ‘Hard Wind’ felt, he could only accept it.

How to put it… Devis and Nasir, seeing that Ullant’s dog-eyed dismissive demeanor, would probably just sneer a few times, then leave disdainfully.

But seeing those eyes, the only response the Undead Tribe would have is… get him! Kill him!

Having spent so long with them, Edna was already accustomed to their style, so she had no intention of stopping them, just advising them to find someone to take the blame and then come up with a reasonable excuse.

In any case, they must leave Oghma some face!

The God of Knowledge might not want to get involved in Candlekeep’s messy affairs, but there must be a reason for him to continue his silence.

But Candlekeep itself was unfortunately located on Mystra’s Path of Destiny, and Ullant’s eager demeanor… though he might simply plan to first observe the carriers of Shards of Mistra’s Soul, and then find a shrewd one to invest in… but as long as he respectfully welcomes people, what happens afterward is no longer his concern.

Ullant didn’t sense the undercurrents in the castle where the Great Library was located; he was standing on tiptoe inside the small house atop the sentry tower next to the castle gates, looking north.

His face was filled with excitement and a trace of disdain… Elaströ indeed was an old woman! To have become so timid!

Tsk tsk~ Perhaps she was terrified by Kelben’s death, completely forgetting the concept of seeking fortune amidst danger… how could she have been so cocky for a thousand years without risking her life for Black Eye?
