Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Capítulo 1263: Chapter 1054: Shaer’s Watertight Schemes

Leonard, holding the fairy dragon, sat obediently behind Edna… Nature Mages have an advantage in this regard, as even giant dragons who dislike people sitting on their backs will make an exception for them.

As for Devis and the others, they stood bewildered inside a modified, messy carriage, looking at the already obliterated Candlekeep… They didn’t know why these undead remodeled the upper part of the carriage into a sturdy metal cage, but since it wasn’t a true prison, they just accepted it.

Nasir, on the other hand, was seated on the back of Hard Wind’s white dragon friend… This was an adult male white dragon with a rather simple personality, not demanding about its passengers… as long as it couldn’t be beaten.

The only undead still alive seemed to be Hard Wind, who was busy arranging the natives of Toril, running around slapping things and muttering, “What shot of mine doesn’t look good? Don’t you know I’m a professional? Isn’t Edna beautiful?

What are you looking at, some castaway at sea?”

The Candlekeep mages and scholars hiding in the sea, waiting for the end, began to shout frantically as the cliff started to collapse into the water, desperately trying to swim further away… Some, with small boats, were slightly better off and, with magic, still moved quite fast.

But most people either applied a swimming spell to themselves or struggled with water-walking spells. However, almost everyone had the blue aura of a water-breathing spell.

“Huh?” Nasir gave Hard Wind a push, “Quick, film Candlekeep!”

“Oh~ Oghma couldn’t hold it in,” Lansendel sighed the moment the camera turned, “Indeed, even with backups, the God of Knowledge cannot tolerate so many books being destroyed.”

The library, which had clearly become ruins, was outlined in blue-green light, forming a virtual image of a library, with countless books swiftly flying towards a wide-open door in the void, nearly forming a vortex.

Above the library, a handsome man with dark skin gradually materialized: he wore a bright, luxurious, and dashing knight’s sleeveless tunic with prominent decorative epaulettes, a decorative belt with a circular buckle depicting a finely crafted landscape painting, and a pair of mesh pointed boots with teardrop-shaped crystals dangling so low they nearly touched his raised toes.

But for once, the white Yating Qin, which he usually held, wasn’t visible… At that moment, Oghma was raising both hands high, supporting the void gate, with a very solemn expression and eyes full of anger, looking at the mages and scholars on the sea who did not turn back… Probably disappointed that none of these fleeing followers thought to carry books with them.

A gray-black soul stood woodenly by Oghma’s side, blue flames burning on him, seemingly intending to burn away the filth on Ullant’s soul… However, judging by his slightly trembling form but absence of howling in agony, this guy wasn’t too pained… Apparently, Oghma, despite his dissatisfaction, still fulfilled his promise to those who worked for him.

Oghma suddenly looked towards the North: “Shaer!”

His voice reverberated across the entire North, “I won’t haggle with you over Ullant! But you must ensure that all libraries built by the Teraxil Elves have a place for the God of Knowledge system!”

The Lady of the Night, manipulating the gray-black phantom in her hand that looked like a large lizard, froze for a moment, her expression quickly turning from indifferent to sinister as she rose directly to her feet.

“Respected Lady of the Night.” Marsha suddenly appeared, interrupting her actions, “His Majesty William said, building a small temple for Toril’s God of Libraries in Toril’s libraries is no problem for him.

The God of Knowledge of Teraxil has no desire to be tied to Toril.

But only for Toril.”

Shaer’s expression gradually became calm: “This is my affair, just a battle with Oghma! He can’t escape without a price.”

“Candlekeep, if it’s just collapsed, the books protected by magic wouldn’t be so easily destroyed either.” Marsha slightly bowed her head, “Oghma’s request isn’t actually wrong… indeed, the undead’s explosives exceeded the limit.

The intention was originally just to blow up the underground labyrinth and cemetery… but every undead responsible for planting explosives feared they’d use too little, so they each added a bit more.”

Just a little bit… everyone’s little bit… for some reason, Hill suddenly thought of this phrase, and an inexplicably awkwardly radiant expression appeared on his face.

Shaer froze for a moment, tilted her head slightly in thought, then quietly nodded.

The sky above Candlekeep, already dim due to dusk, suddenly turned utterly black… On either side of the sky, the afterglow of the setting sun, though slowly receding, still lingered.

Shaer’s voice, equally resonant across the skies, carried a hint of harshness amidst its calm: “Libraries primarily established by other deities, even if built by the Teraxil Elves, are not included in this scope.

The rest are fine, but even then, only within the Toril World.”

Oghma tilted his head in thought… that was all the value Candlekeep held.

Ultimately, what he wanted were those floating libraries the elves spoke of for the future… If such special libraries didn’t have his temple nearby, that would be a humiliation for him.

As for other worlds, he has his own pride, just preaching, after all, who doesn’t have some usable believers… the followers at Candlekeep, first trained by a previous Mystra and then exploited by Shaer, don’t count!

Oghma curled his lips; Black Eye Mystra played his tricks too hard and ended up playing himself to death!

As for Shaer… with half of Candlekeep handed to Mystra, how could the Lady of the Night not intervene?

If it weren’t for the Twin Goddesses’ general aversion to direct battle with outsiders, Oghma wouldn’t have even brought this up… if it were Lansendel, he’d have charged in to fight it out first, only discussing right and wrong afterward!

Wait, that Edna, said to be a descendant of Azuth, and Lord Agleya himself is a descendant of Coron. What if they establish a library in the name of their ancestors?

Besides, the Teraxil Elves have close relationships with so many deities. What if they casually borrow a name?

Is Shaer trying to pull a fast one over us?

“That won’t do,” Oghma said cautiously, “I know how many deities the Teraxil Elves are connected to!

You should know what price I paid to save these books! Such conditions won’t pass muster with me!”

Shaer chuckled lightly, “You’re overthinking it. The Teraxil Elves don’t need to open a library under someone else’s name.

However, you should also know that the Teraxil Elves are often employed by others, including deities… If the main handler is another deity, they surely can’t make decisions on behalf of others!”

Oghma hesitated for a few seconds, recalling one of the Undead Tribe’s most frequent employers… What if Lansendel wanted to build a library?

The thought of appearing in the same complex as the Lord of Dawn made his head tingle a bit.

Seeing Oghma’s wavering, Shaer seized the moment to strike quickly, “So, if the Teraxil Elves are employed by other deities, it’s impossible for them to build a temple for the God System of Knowledge.

What happens afterward is your business.”

Oghma felt something was off, but couldn’t pinpoint why… He furrowed his brows gently, wondering if someone was trying to extend their reach into the territories of knowledge and scribes?

He never doubted Shaer’s informed nature… In that case, he’d have to send Miliel out to investigate.

The Singer had been almost completely enclosed in the Divine Kingdom, guarding against being dragged into the Path of Destiny due to his complex past with Mystra. However, when major matters related to the God System arise, he can’t afford to continue isolating himself!

With his thoughts wandering beyond the heavens, Oghma nodded reservedly, “Then… consider it settled! This time, the matter of Candlekeep is concluded here.”

Oghma was aware that Teraxil, after all, has its own God of Knowledge, and he wouldn’t go to war with deities from other worlds over this.

“Ah! Truly, Shaer doesn’t even blink when setting someone up,” Celene remarked with deep emotion.

“Oghma will cry later, won’t he? He’ll definitely cry, right?” Lansendel said, spreading his wings with a look of anticipation, “Tsk, I can’t wait to see his amusing expression!”

“That won’t do,” Celene said solemnly, “This is just the beginning! There are already so many who are either going to suffer misfortune or lose face!

The longer it goes on, the more will be involved!

And we… this is a rare chance to not be on stage but to sit beneath and watch others perform!

Don’t go smashing the stage for me! You hear?

Otherwise, I will be in an endless fight with you!”

Lansendel drew a zipper motion across his lips with his wings, not daring to turn his eyes… A menacing Celene is actually more terrifying than Shaer.

Because the Maiden of the Moon dares to do anything… and never considers the consequences.

Seated on the back of the White Dragon, Edna and her White Dragon companion fell into confusion: Is Shaer helping her or tricking her?

Then she quickly shook her head, casting out that absurd fantasy.

She couldn’t help but express heartfelt admiration to Leonard sitting beside her, “Who would’ve thought!

One day, I’ll see the Goddess of the Night being so reasonable, meticulously guarding against every little thing!

She… is really quite good to His Majesty William~”

Leonard nodded in agreement, then turned with curiosity to ask, “Is the Goddess of the Night worried that one day Agleya might want to build a library?”

“When would Hill ever need to hire someone to build a house for him? Hasn’t he even built the city walls himself?” Edna couldn’t help but retort, “You’re overthinking it! He’d probably even complain that the Undead are slow and have too many issues.”

Leonard furrowed his brows, puzzled… So what is Shaer guarding against?
