Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1254: Chapter 1045: Mirimum Willingly Joins the Team

The eagerly awaiting Ullant didn’t notice that the four mages who were supposed to be on duty at this outpost—a pair of Scroll Mages and a pair of Scroll Scholars—were exchanging glances with each other.

After confirming that the others had received the warning, they chose a more dignified retreat, leaving this small space to the nominal leader.

However, before leaving, one of the mages specially summoned a beautiful armchair for him, so Ullant was quite pleased with their tactful departure.

Mirim, who was chatting with ’Hard Wind,’ suddenly froze. She abruptly stood up, stretched her neck, and listened intently. That 30-meter long body suddenly unfolded, causing ’Hard Wind,’ who was sitting nearby, to stand up and take a few steps back.

Even though the body of this Specter Dragon was illusory, the aura of a giant dragon was truly impressive!

”What’s gotten into those Oghma followers?” Mirim asked with a bit of surprise. ”What kind of person could scare them into wanting to run away?

Wait, Mystra’s followers are also in turmoil, but they seem a bit divided, unlike the Oghma scholars, who all want to flee...

Hmm... The Prophecy Mages seem to all want to stay... It seems Ullant still holds quite a position among them... Or maybe not, since none of them seem to plan on talking to Ullant at the door; they’re discussing among themselves what to do.

Indeed, at critical times, straddling two boats is the easiest way to capsize!

The noise sure is fierce!

Last time, when attacked by the Kalinsanians, there weren’t as many trying to escape as this time!

What are they arguing about? A bunch of crazy women with... are about to arrive... and they’re saying Ullant wants Candlekeep... to become the next... Deepwater City?

Guests who arrived yesterday? Accurate information?

What in the world is all this?”

”Ah...” ’Hard Wind’ said with some difficulty, ”The guests probably mean Elaströ and her sisters.

They might want to run away... probably because there are a few Female Mages with Shards of Mystra’s Soul about to arrive at Candlekeep... An eight-year-old from Harua and five or six just adults from Quel Senta.”

Mirim stiffened, hesitating for a long time before looking down at him: ”Mystra can still gather in groups?”

”Ah! How would anyone know?” ’Hard Wind’ said confidently, ”We’re not Toril people, how could we know how your Deities here can be divided up!

I’ve lived for thousands of years and died for nearly a thousand, and I still don’t know...” The Specter Dragon’s voice was filled with ethereal, melancholic despair. ”In the old Toril, there was already enough going on, those lovers separated by life and death, those heroes who turned the tide. Add a few more whimsical Goddesses with their charming glances, and countless unlucky ones could be doomed.

I... had a few chances to escape this cursed fate before, and they were all failed by these inexplicable protagonists of fate!

This time... meeting you, I thought I finally had another chance... Although I can no longer see the bright sun, at least I could sleep again under the blanket of stars in the silver moonlight.

How did I encounter this damned fate again!”

”Well, I think you don’t need to worry so much. Although these people bring a heap of trouble wherever they go, how should I put it, it definitely won’t escalate to such a high level.” ’Hard Wind’ pondered whether the Supreme God called AO had seen enough of those melodramatic romances of life and death and lone hero dramas, so he decided to end the plot of the Undead World and play out a comedy with multiple protagonists, supporting characters, and perspectives.

The cannon fodder was plentiful, but the ordinary people were spared.

If it always went like this, the Toril people might not just close their eyes and await death when faced with the Path of Destiny.

So far, the only city where ordinary people were equally unlucky was Neverwinter, right?

Are there any real commoners in that city?

Back when the Just Knights were forced to leave, all the decent ordinary people packed up and moved out... Even if they couldn’t get into Agleya, it was still easy to join Luskan; they were very shorthanded there.

After explaining recent events to Mirim, whose large eyes seemed about to pop out of their sockets, ’Hard Wind’ confidently concluded, ”With them around, things naturally tend to go wrong, plus that person in charge of Candlekeep is eager to become a protagonist of the Path of Destiny. We all think having a fate like Deepwater City would be fortunate.”

”What’s left in Deepwater City?” Mirim asked curiously.

”All the Grand Temples and Black Staff Tower are still there!” ’Hard Wind’ replied assertively.

”Ah...” Mirim thought for a while before saying, ”Then there’s no need for Candlekeep to be as complete as Deepwater City.”

’Hard Wind’ nodded in agreement, ”Candlekeep is such a small place; there can’t be exceptions, right?

Anyway, when the time comes, we’ll just figure out a way to take the coffin and run?”

Mirim was stunned for a moment... She initially thought she could at least gain eternal relief... But, can it really be like this?

But... isn’t her task to protect Candlekeep?

If that coffin board isn’t in Candlekeep... wouldn’t she, bound to the coffin, be able to escape some of the preconditions?

At least she could leave with it!

”By the way, ghosts all have their own obsessions. Is your obsession Candlekeep or the books?” ’Hard Wind’ glanced at his tablet and couldn’t help but look up to ask.

”I...let me think.” Mirimum pondered for a while before saying, ”When I think of Candlekeep exploding, I actually feel quite happy.

But when the books are destroyed, I have this inner fire of rage.

Ah... if I fight desperately at the time, you can just let me die.

Anyway, with that coffin around, I can still be resurrected.

It’s a perfect chance to get a good sleep... I haven’t enjoyed the feeling of sleep for nearly a thousand years.”

”Then... having a library to guard would suffice?” ’Hard Wind’ tilted his head and asked, ”Although our plan to create a Naish Scroll Library fell through, if Candlekeep is gone, our little Edna should rebuild the largest library in Toril in Hidden Town.

Are you willing to be its guardian?”

”Is it also a castle?” Mirimum asked reluctantly.

”Ah... it’s in the Hidden Forest, and there isn’t much open space. The Elves won’t just chop down trees to build a castle.” ’Hard Wind’ chuckled, ”We should probably ask Lord of Agleya to help build a Floating Castle.

By then, building you a Cloud Platform that can appear during the day shouldn’t be a problem.

In the other two cities, the Municipal Officer, Hill, helped build very beautiful residences!

When Edna takes over Hidden Town, he should do something too.”

”Is Lord of Agleya really a master builder?” The Specter Dragon asked in surprise, ”Ah, but I can understand why he’s so rich!

The master builders of Toril mostly work in many artistic and design jobs on the side. They can really earn a lot of money!

Just like the followers and priests of Lansendel... If it weren’t that the Lord of Dawn was such a hassle, who knows how many Giant Dragons would willingly guard their temple!”

”Ah! Sorry, I digressed.” Realizing her thoughts were diverging in a strange direction, Mirimum shook her head forcefully, ”Dragons, even if they’re dead, as soon as money is mentioned, it’s easy for this to happen, I’m sorry... but there’s nothing to be done about it, it can’t be changed.

If that’s the case, I’d be very willing!

Even in death, I can die with a smile~”

She showed a very happy smile, genuinely saying, ”Let me go into battle with this joyful heart!

If I fail, I can only ask you to let me die thoroughly... making it a dream I never wake up from is a kind of happiness too.”

’Hard Wind’ smiled: ”Don’t worry, we asked around and as long as we take that coffin out of Candlekeep, someone can help lift your magic.

But a ghost must have an object as a vessel. Do you prefer crystal or a metal sphere?”

Mirimum said longingly, ”The more valuable the better... ah, and if it could have a bit of a silver sheen, that would be even better.”

’Hard Wind’ pondered for a while before realizing that, although it’s called a Silver Dragon, Mirimum definitely wouldn’t want her place to just be a little silver ball... but she was too embarrassed to say, give me a Mithril Sphere!

He sighed silently; as an Ancient Silver Dragon, Mirimum’s reaction was a bit too simple... it seems she’s been disappointed too many times, not daring to ask for even slightly more.

If it were Tasding, he’d dare to ask for a Mithril Sphere and just haggle it down slowly if needed!

He swiped on his tablet for a while before saying, ”We can offer you a Mithril Sphere with a radius of five centimeters, inlaid with some tiny diamonds, is that okay?”

Having lost her treasure for thousands of years, Mirimum’s eyes widened in surprise: ”Mithril?”

She let out a long sigh from the heart: ”Bahamut above! I’m willing!”

”Seeing another woman say those three words to your husband, how does it feel?” ’Old Age Striking King’ asked with a grin to ’Cunlü’, who was standing beside her flipping through a copy of ’Lioumon’s Cabin Vacation Guide’.

Edna, also flipping through ’Summoning Barrier and You,’ couldn’t help but laugh as well.

The books they picked were not particularly valuable and could be taken outside the Magic Inner Chamber, but could only be viewed within 10 meters of this room. The only benefit is that they could talk... of course, mainly because Striking King wanted to look at the tablet.

She actually didn’t pursue intelligence much; if it were strength, she might be more active.

”What can I say?” ’Cunlü’ said indifferently, ”Besides, it’s not anything strange, even the boars have said it.”

’Old Age Striking King’ couldn’t help but twitch the corner of their mouth; ’Cunlü’s type of suicidal attack was always fierce yet effective.

Edna looked quite longing, saying, ”A grand library all to myself, just thinking about it makes me happy!”
