Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 341: Chapter 140: The Only Thing in the Treasury Worth Hill’s Attention

The so-called treasures of the Dwarves, no matter how powerful, should not be used lightly.

To exhaust the souls of living beings, using them once can be followed by a cry of agony, making it difficult for many to proceed.

However, those who do proceed, generally no longer care about factions.

Thus, for human nobles, Dwarven artifacts are actually quite deceptive.

The moral standards of nobles are generally low, and many lack compassion.

Compared to immense power, the cries of other creatures hardly matter.

If such things continuously fall into the hands of human nobles, it is no wonder that the moral standing of high-level nobles is somewhat problematic.

If one grows up listening to such cries and later becomes a new lord, how much compassion can they possibly retain?

But these items are precious enough that likely only heirs are qualified to handle them.

Hill had never once felt that being the second son of an Earl was a good thing.

Gazing upon the thousands of Dwarven treasures in the Treasure Warehouse, Saral had amassed so much over a millennium; other nations, thousands of years old, would possess even more.

Human nobles, especially those from ancient nations like Dionysio’s, who were establishing their countries amidst wilderness and competing for territory with Magical Beasts, could not possibly forsake such strategic treasures.

Factions are important, but certainly not as important as one’s own life. The knights, who fought daily against Magical Beasts, wouldn’t necessarily take the cries of the beasts seriously either.

Thus, for the God of Nobility to remain in the Neutral Faction, it truly required unwavering determination.

Regrettably, He did not have it, so He could only follow His noble followers down a slippery slope towards evil.

He was able to endure tens of thousands of years, perhaps because He forever upheld this baseline for humanity.

William probably never intended to bestow these treasures upon the nobles, so he stacked them directly within a Purification Array.

Hill looked down for a while, familiar with his grandfather’s Purification Array.

Hill took out an engraving knife and earnestly added some lines to the array.

The power of nature was likely more useful to them, and with Hill, blessed by both the Sun and Silvermoon, fully absorbed in his work, he could introduce the power of these blessings into the Purification Array.

This should allow for a much quicker purification of the unfortunate souls of Magical Beasts and Treants.

Then, to his surprise, he discovered that William had not restricted his magical power.

This meant that Hill could use magic within the Treasury.

Hill couldn’t help but look around, surely the Divine Power Core was closely monitoring him at that moment?

He knew William wanted him to work for free!

But Hill was actually pleased; after so many years, William was still the just William, not neglecting these matters due to his powerful position.

For William, being in the Neutral Faction meant that he only needed to ensure that these treasures were not used, no need to spend expensive materials on purification.

Fran’s Purification Array was effective, but the materials it used were highly valuable.

So, even knowing William intended to save money, Hill didn’t feel uncomfortable about it.

He would not likely charge for purifying nature anyway.

A Nature Warlock, upon seeing such corruption, should naturally act to cleanse it.

Moreover, it wasn’t necessary to discuss such matters beforehand—would Hill and William really need to engage in back-and-forth formalities over a billing issue?

William trusted Hill, allowing a legendary warlock to cast spells in his Treasury.

Even with an Intelligence Core like a Tower Spirit watching, it was a deeply heartwarming trust.

Absolute trust, which William dared to give, was something Hill dared not fully accept!

He nearly used up half of his mana to cast Nature’s Blessing.

Feeling the terrifying scent of blood fade a lot, Hill then turned and left the warehouse.

He had done all he could; the rest he could only leave to time.

Lastly, Hill stopped in front of the library, reaching out for a wheel-bound book cart.

This device, first created by the Undead Tribe, was specifically for the purpose of peddling books.

Ever since Hill began collecting books from the Undead Tribe, many mages and nobles in Saral had started to emulate him.

But they were not like Hill, who indiscriminately accepted any book he did not already possess.

They always had to make selections.

After all, books are expensive.

To facilitate the showcasing of books to these junior nobles, the Undead Tribe came up with the idea of these book carts, dragging around large stacks of books for people to choose from.

The Undead Tribe is now very clever; after obtaining a book, they first copy it using Transcription Technique. If the book is highly valuable, they sell the manuscript.

Low-rank mages are very willing to purchase these manuscripts, as they are also magic artifacts.

Nobles are quite willing as well. Compared to their self-written copies, the Undead’s versions are almost identical to the originals and contain Magic Aura.

Most book-collecting nobles care not for the content of Magic Books but for the vanity they bestow.

How many can actually perceive the Magic Aura of the books?

Cheap knockoffs that closely resembled the real thing had driven the nobles to near madness.

When the Undead Tribe sold goods, the prices were set by William and they couldn’t sell counterfeits, only genuine products at their true price.

However, the Undead Tribe didn’t care to whom they sold.

After being deceived a few times, the Great Nobility in Saral began to embrace a new profession.

Junior Mages were invited by these Great Nobles to specifically authenticate the age of books and the Magic Aura they contained, as no noble wanted to spend a fortune on a fake.

Even if they later caught the person who sold them the forgeries, it wouldn’t recover the face they had lost.

Hill, gripping his suitcase without hesitation, headed straight for the Magic Books shelf.

Even for the same spell, different Mages’ approaches could turn it into an entirely different book, so Hill was almost examining each one by one.

Unless William came to drive people away, he was determined to check each book until the last.

The Chancellor returned alone to the King’s Hall, unable to wait any longer.

After consulting the Treasury Core, he rose without hesitation and left.

Polanio was clearly planning to live in the library, and he still had a pile of things to do!

After all, his presence was only a polite accompaniment. The door of the warehouse could be pushed open but not pulled, and one didn’t need a key to exit from the inside.

Watching the Chancellor return alone, William couldn’t help but chuckle.

”His Majesty the King, did you already know that Polanio would only go to the library?” the Chancellor asked sullenly. Not long after Hill entered, William had the Treasury Core inform him that he could leave.

He felt that, in case Polanio made his selections quickly, leaving too early would seem impolite.

Unexpectedly, despite the vast treasures of the Saral Treasury, the only thing of value to this Nature Warlock was the books!

”Hill is already a master in the field of Alchemical Utensils. He just isn’t interested in the Mage Association’s recognition,” William said, laughing. ”As a Nature Warlock, he has no interest in Potions. As for materials, with the Undead Tribe around, whatever Saral has, he will have too.

As for treasures, the disgusting items in that warehouse would only waste his Mana to purify them. Hill even helped me modify the Purification Array!

Besides the books stored for thousands of years in Saral, he has no other demands.”

William shook his head and laughed. Knowing Hill, it was normal for him to use Nature’s Blessing to purify that pile of garbage, but it’s surprising that his first reaction wasn’t to use Magic but to first modify the Array.

It just proved that this kid hadn’t tried to use Magic since entering the treasury.

Such a well-behaved child was indeed rare!

He no longer felt that Hill could be a time traveler.

Even the least ambitious time travelers acted with a sense of superiority.

Just like the God of Time and Space, who had faced so many difficulties, partly because of the pride he carried.

The God of Time and Space was a scientist who knew nothing about time travel!

He wasn’t one to look down on others either.

But a person from modern society, upon arriving in this world close to medieval times, would always feel a proud sense of being different from others.

After enduring much torment, the God of Time and Space didn’t completely destroy the God of Nobility and the God of Contract, leaving them some leeway. William found this odd.

Even with a good nature, his vengeful spirit wouldn’t be weak.

The God of Time and Space was a scientist, not the Holy Mother.

But after much consideration, he told William that he too was at fault back then.

Completely ignoring reality, as a Magister commanding a Demigod every day, he thought his ideas could not be flawed, and if they weren’t realized, it was because the God of Contract didn’t want to do them.

So, the God of Contract eventually gave up on him.

He also abandoned all the rules he had perfected for the Law of Justice.

Later, when he became a legend, his mind clouded by Demon’s Blood, he wanted to turn Justice into utter ruin and make Contracts worthless.

And for those already abandoned, it became even easier to grievously wound him.

As for the God of Nobility, what would it matter if a Magister became a legend? If he wanted to shake the foundation of His beliefs, he wouldn’t hesitate to kill him!

If initially, the God of Time and Space hadn’t relied on the God of Contract, depending solely on himself, he probably wouldn’t have made it to the end and would have been killed by the Noble Church much earlier.

The style of the God of Time and Space back then was full of courage and passion, but for ordinary people, the God of Contract, who came from nobility, was more trustworthy.

There would be no waiting for the God of Nobility to act personally.

Although the God of Nobility threw him into the Abyss to torment him,

he wanted the God of Time and Space to fall, completely betray his life principles, and twist his soul so profoundly that recalling his past self might drive him even madder.

But it was also because of this that the God of Time and Space was left alive.

Thus, he made such a decision in the end,

to strip away the Divinity of Justice he had helped the God of Contract achieve.

Back when he had no hopes of becoming a god, the God of Time and Space was already unyielding. Why couldn’t he endure later if he could before?

Since he had abandoned those who helped him gain the Divinity of Justice, the God of Contract no longer deserved to hold that divinity.
