Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 316: Chapter 119 Fran in the Wilderness

Hill felt extremely surprised, Adrian continued to speak with a smile, ”You should realize that when traveling in the wilderness, supplies are scarce. And not everyone has large-capacity storage equipment.”

Even high-level professionals, after staying in the wilderness for a long time, don’t look fresh and radiant.

At such times, to have a handsome Archmage who could readily use materials just obtained from his surroundings to create very useful items, powerful in ability and with much gentlemanly grace. When seeing female professionals in a disheveled state he would silently lend a hand.

”Your grandmother, back in the day, was with the elves! With that in mind, you can imagine how popular an Alchemist Master would be in the wilderness. Those were elves who could always find plants to help!”

Hill said in a daze, ”So, she wasn’t a friend of my grandmother’s but a rival’s niece?”

Adrian burst into laughter, ”What are you thinking! How could your grandmother possibly have a female sorceress as a friend! With elven arrogance and sorceress’ sensitive nature, it would be a good ending if they didn’t come to blows.”

”I thought grandmother was a very straightforward person,” Hill explained.

”Of course, the teacher thinks his lover is great,” Adrian laughed, ”Hill, half-elves living in the Forest of the Elves are nearly all Royalty, even with royal bloodlines. She might have been straightforward and efficient in her actions. But to humans, she would only care about the person, and those whom she didn’t take a fancy to, were no different to her than roadside grass.”

Hill rarely heard Adrian talk like this, ”Why do you say that?”

”Before you came of age, I too had traveled out there,” Adrian said with a smile, ”I never encountered an elven team, but I did see half-elves. And these were the ones who didn’t live in the forest but on the outskirts, in small towns. From their childhood, they were taught that humans, a short-lived race, were short-sighted with no future. Even though they respected me quite a bit, as a human, I still felt uncomfortable.

I certainly don’t believe that your grandmother, having grown up in the Forest of the Elves, could actually think highly of humans.

She did have a good personality, not cold to those she looked down upon. But the arrogance men might overlook, women wouldn’t - let alone a female sorceress who could feel the slightest change in emotion.”

Feeling Hill’s astonishment, Adrian whispered, ”You should have noticed too, right? The teacher is good at everything, let alone speaking of his aptitude, his character is also quite righteous. The only flaw is that he is very insensitive to other people’s emotions. He can sense the slightest changes in elements, yet he can’t see the emotional fluctuations of those around him.”

Hill blinked, Adrian really was fearless - relying on the fact that Fran couldn’t hear, he dared to say anything!

”Ah! The teacher really is great. It would be even better if he gave up on making me into an all-category Alchemist Master! With items, it’s enough that I can make them! As long as I have the blueprints, I have absolutely no problem,” Adrian changed the subject and started complaining again.

Adrian had long since been an Alchemist Master of potions.

Hill felt a bit of regret, it was a pity he likely wouldn’t get the qualification of Alchemist Master for items. He certainly wasn’t going to send himself to the Mage Association just for that.

”How is your ship coming along?” Hill asked with a smile, ”Still have students?”

”I’ve taken the exceptional ones from the academy to help out,” Adrian said with a laugh, ”and then I have the Undead Tribe keep an eye on their performance after they go back.”

Hill thought Adrian was really very insightful.

This was to see the students’ behavior back at school after having received a great opportunity.

”Those who get carried away with pride don’t make it to the end,” Adrian continued, ”In the subject of alchemy, one must have ample patience. Even a greedy person must have the ability to control themselves.”

It seemed that Adrian was planning to cast a wider net to see if he could catch some exceptional fish.

Indeed, at present, the academy was a very suitable place for picking students.

The students don’t understand that when all their actions are under scrutiny, their true character is more easily revealed.

”Speaking of which, wasn’t Abigail’s aunt also a Silvermoon Sorcerer?” Hill suddenly asked, ”She must be very beautiful then, right? She is the offspring of that Lady Valencia!”

”Indeed, very beautiful,” Adrian said candidly, ”When she arrived at the Magic Tower, she dazzled many people. Next to her, that Helen is just clay on the ground. But Hill, not every Silvermoon Sorcerer is like Abigail, who knows restraint, even though she insists she is from a kind faction.

Abigail has made people believe that they are indeed followers of Silvermoon, and illusion techniques and mental magic are their true talents.

When you saw her, you probably didn’t feel much since you have the blessing of Silvermoon which allows you to see through all illusions.

But in others’ eyes, Abigail stands amidst a cloud of silver mist.

They can feel she is a beauty but can’t see her true face.

That is the impression Silvermoon gives.

Her aunt is different; she shows off her charm in every movement.

Some people, those who like to use their talents too much, are not truly appreciated by those with strong spiritual power.

If someone is not too sensitive to male-female relationships, they might even take it as a provocation.

Moreover, that Lady Valencia has always claimed to be of succubus bloodline. Even though everyone doubts her for saying even the bloodline of elves isn’t as good as succubi, they always remain suspicious of them.

A succubus, even slightly righteous people would stay far away.”

It seemed Abigail’s two days in the capital had made quite an impression on Adrian.

And Fran truly disliked Abigail’s aunt, to the point where Adrian didn’t even want to mention her name.

Hill could understand; Silvermoon itself belongs to the chaotic good faction, and it’s rare to find her followers who understand how to control their own desires.

The kindness of those from the Chaotic Faction merely indicates their acknowledgment of all virtues and principles, but it does not guarantee that they will act benevolently.

They are quite prone to following their own logic to carry out what they consider ’kindness,’ often by any means necessary.

In a way, to someone like Fran, such benevolence might be even more distasteful than lawful evil.

Hill thought for a moment and felt that the new Tower Master of the Sorcerer Tower still had some rules to his actions, which was acceptable. After all, most sorcerers belonged to the Chaotic Faction, and having a leader who understood restraint was definitely not a problem.

Suddenly, Adrian said on the other side, ”Abigail is going to see the teacher? The teacher should agree to meet her! After all, they are going to become neighbors, and should extend some courtesy. I need to ask Diamant if a time has been set, I might return once it’s decided.”

”Your eagerness to join in the fun is too obvious—are you really not afraid of death?” Hill felt Adrian was being a little too reckless.

”No problem, in the search for a legendary direction. The teacher also suggested I liberate my nature and live as I please to see if it brings any new sensations,” Adrian said with a roguish grin. ”What I want to see most now is this excitement!”

While taking on his own responsibilities, to liberate his nature?

Hill pondered for a while, unsure if it would be helpful. But indeed, during their Magister phase, mages were closest to their true nature.

Fran has always followed the most traditional path of a mage, disliking shortcuts, so it was normal for him to be this way.

After ending the conversation with Adrian, Hill let out a sigh of relief.

Adrian had spent more time with Fran and had met more of his friends.

Therefore, his statement about that step-grandmother must have some basis.

Hill decided not to dwell on these thoughts any longer; after all, they were strangers.

If it weren’t for Fran’s involvement, Hill wouldn’t even think about this step-grandmother’s existence. For him, her significance lay only in whether she would impact Fran or not.

Hill looked outside the tower, towards the fountain pond where List was watching an Undead Tribe making contracts.

The line today was unusually long, as many of the Undead who couldn’t gain the recognition of high-level magical beasts now had huge colorful rabbits by their sides.

The rabbits’ fluffy fur emitted a soft glow, and many girls couldn’t resist diving into that fluffiness to frolic.

The rabbits, however, were quite docile and gently played along with the girls.

The scene was very heartwarming.

Hill watched carefully for a while and quickly confirmed that the rabbits had chosen the Undead whose attributes were most similar to their own.

A smart decision, indeed.

Hill leaned against the window, observing the liveliness outside, his mind racing with thoughts.

This new Tower Master had chosen a particularly interesting time to cause trouble, right after the Mage Association had delivered documents and gifts to Hill.

Had she turned against them earlier, Hill, as a sorcerer, would never have given up the Sorcerer Tower to join the Mage Association, so these problematic issues from the Mage Association would not have reached him.

But then, Hill would also have missed out on these documents and gifts.

Though Hill was famously wealthy, and Fran would share information with him, there was nothing quite like having things handed to you and then facing a betrayal to feel satisfied.

Moreover, such actions ensured that Fran’s faction could never reconcile with the Mage Association.

Hill knew that Fran was still angry.

No matter how you put it, the Mage Association clearly didn’t consider him seriously.

In their eyes, Fran was a competitor, not an Alchemist Master they respected.

But Fran certainly didn’t think being seen as a competitor was complimentary; he felt underestimated.

So now, Fran was deeply engrossed in his lab, working on a Demi-God artifact to let those people understand the level of the Alchemist Master they had offended.

For a legendary Alchemist Master, to create one Demi-God artifact meant that with sufficient materials, he could surely make a second.

For those longing to adventure beyond the world, weapons or equipment of Demi-God Tier were nearly as crucial as half their lives.

Something they thought they might obtain but ended up begging for in vain, they would then truly understand the meaning of heart-wrenching pain.

Meanwhile, Hill planned to reclassify Wind Magic.

His Wind Spells were directly inscribed in his Mental Sea by the Law, with the power adjusting automatically according to his will.

He needed to create a series of spells that would allow mages to progress from apprentice to Magister.
