Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 312: Chapter 115: Fierce Reaction of the Sorcerer Tower

The Mage Association’s leak about the celebration for Hill’s Legendary status was intended to make trouble, and they made sure to let Fran know about it.

Would Hill have a credible excuse to give to Fran if he acted rashly in a moment of impulse?

Hill didn’t get angry, but a sense of absurdity rose within him.

Indeed, even humans who lived for thousands, tens of thousands of years, could not escape the mundane nor could they remain indifferent to worldly affairs.

Intelligent beings do not have the kind of species that is free from desires and wants.

Hill summoned List and handed over the legendary information to him, instructing him to record and summarize it.

He felt he had calmed down, but still took precautions to avoid reading the information and growing angrier.

He carefully examined the paper used for the documents.

For Hill, who was surrounded by Natural Consciousness, the moment he saw the paper, he knew there weren’t things like poison on it.

But what he wanted to see was whether the material used to make this paper contained any plants that could amplify emotions.

Sure enough, though it was covered by a faint lavender scent, Hill’s meticulous study revealed a trace of Moonlight Grass.

Moonlight Grass is an excellent plant.

It helps in meditation and stabilizing the Mental Sea.

The only drawback is that it amplifies emotions.

But for mages adept at controlling themselves, it’s actually a fine aid.

This was clearly a blatant scheme, and hence they had the gall to do this, knowing that Hill would surely notice it.

And if Hill indeed failed to notice in an outburst of emotion and did something impulsive, that would be quite normal, wouldn’t it?

The Mage Association has really outdone themselves this time.

This document must have been made by the Half-Elf Legendary’s enemy who was sent to cause trouble.

And this Legend must have been well aware of it.

Probably only the Magisters who were betting on surviving Hill’s hands were kept in the dark.

If it weren’t for the fact that all the Archmages who went back to relay messages had perished, Hill wouldn’t have spared even those two.

Indeed, ”life-saving” money is exactly that; once accepted, one shouldn’t harbor any futile hope.

Hill was preparing to look at the documents when List came in.

”I’ve received a letter from Mr. Fran.”

”What does he say?”

”The Sorcerer Tower has completely closed off the border, and anyone other than magicians is unwelcome to enter.”

Hill was stunned for a moment; the Sorcerer Tower wasn’t uninvolved in the effort either.

They did take the Legendary Warlocks seriously, but could it be that they have been compromised by the Mage Association to the point of being unable to resist?

Could this be their way of signaling a clean break with the Mage Association, indicating a complete separation in the future?

”The Sorcerer Tower, and those prepared to join the war, have decided to station themselves directly in Saral.”

Hill looked up in surprise, ”Stationed directly in Saral?”

”They’ve already sent word to His Majesty the King, asking him to arrange a suitable station. They do not wish to reside with the Nobles. Cities of the Undead are also acceptable.”

”Are there any Legendary Magicians coming?” Hill asked sharply.

”They have already arrived; according to their factions, six of them, two men and four women. They hope His Majesty the King can provide them with separate but interconnected residences.”

”Male?”

”Yes, the two who have been with the Mage Association for years have inquired whether His Majesty the King would welcome male magicians. His Majesty the King said that as long as their faction is Neutral, Saral will open its arms to welcome all professions.”

”When did this happen?”

”When those few from the Mage Association entered Saral Border and reached the Western Border City, the Legendary ones from the Sorcerer Tower arrived at the doorstep of Saral Royal Palace.”

”Does the Mage Association know?”

”Mr. Fran’s letter states that not even the Saral branch head knew until the last minute, and that he rushed to the Royal Palace to find the two male Legendary Magicians. However, he returned unsuccessful and apparently scolded. He has since gone directly back to the Parliament to report. If even someone of the branch head’s status was unaware, then the sorcerers’ move this time was a sudden attack.”

”Am I the final straw that broke the Sorcerer Tower’s back?” Hill murmured, ”I was indeed protected before, but that’s in the past. Has the anger accumulated too much?”

”Mr. Fran’s opinion is that the Sorcerer Tower feels His Majesty the King is more trustworthy than the Mage Association. After all, most of the Legendary Laws who protected them previously have now gone beyond the Starry Sky.”

Hill finally understood; compared to the Legendary Mages who knew this was a fragile world, the magicians who advanced to Legendary status mostly through their dedication to a single Law, really did not understand what was happening.

Because of their bloodlines, they lived longer than the Mages.

Although they might not be as strong as those Law Legends, they’ve had enough experience.

They could sense something was off with the Mage Association, but as Legends of a single Law, they were invincible in front of Low-rank ones. In front of Legends with multiple Laws, however, they could easily be countered.

They could only endure in silence, trying to discern the truth.

Hill fully understood the pride of Mages.

Law Legends like Miller might even look down on them, let alone those who could not even see the Starry Sky Gate.

Even if the magicians did not understand at first, after witnessing the Mage Association’s disdain chain, they should realize that they were looked down upon not for being magicians, but because they controlled too few Laws.

For someone like Hill, who advanced to Legendary status by relying on the four-System Laws of Magic, he was of course precious to them.

They must have negotiated with the Mage Association. Since Fran already knew trouble was coming, those two male Legendary Magicians who had been with the Association would have known even sooner.

Unfortunately, these magicians, who couldn’t even see the real world, probably didn’t get a satisfactory response using the Sorcerer Tower’s name, did they?

To those Law Legends, it wasn’t about killing Hill; a little probing didn’t hurt, did it?

All in all, it was still because they’ve been helping the magicians for years that they forgot, magicians weren’t unwilling; they were perfectly capable.

No matter how severe the bloodline issues were, it was better than being completely disrespected.

Even a Legendary Magician with Demon blood would not object at this time.

Moreover, Magicians are always driven by a strong sense of curiosity and dare to take risks.

Their intentions were clear; they were willing to use the Teleportation Array as long as it wasn’t too far—in case something happened, they could fly over—but also not too close, to avoid conflicts due to clashing elements.

Hill’s spirits soared.

This was far more impactful than Hill simply killing a few people and striking a blow to the Mage Association.

So, never get too smug!

These Magicians had specifically waited for the Mage Association’s people to arrive at Hill’s Domain before making their move.

If those Mages hadn’t hesitated outside Hill’s Domain for so long, it might all have happened simultaneously.

Hill leaned back on the bed and couldn’t help but let out a laugh.

”Sir?” List said, puzzled, ”Even though Saral is of the Neutral Faction with a king leaning towards good, how did the Magicians make such a sudden decision?”

”You mean how could they trust so easily that the king would not harm them, right?” Hill said as he held the document, ”Of course, there were disruptions!”

Follower of the Sun or the Moon?

Most likely the Moon.

The majority of Moon worshippers are Chaotic Neutral and Chaotic Good.

And Magicians are probably the most chaotic creatures.

Who knows, perhaps among the female leaders of the Sorcerer Tower, some are of the Moon Goddess’ bloodline.

Before she might not have had the courage, but the moment the Silver Wolf ascended to the starry sky, it gave her endless bravery!

The Moon is revived!

Creatures from the Silvermoon System, not to mention others, near-instinctively protect their own kind.

They absolutely believe that their Main God behaves the same way.

And the most terrifying thing about the Chaos System is that they act upon whatever comes to mind, right?

”So, if a Magician visits, should he be received?”

”Of course,” Hill laughed, ”I’d be more than happy if no one comes to me because they made this decision. Between legends, there is no need for too many formalities—whose side one’s butt is seated on is what truly matters!”

”Separately, I wonder where His Majesty the King is planning to place them?”

”Isn’t it obvious?” Hill said irritably, ”Prepare to welcome new neighbors!”

List couldn’t help laughing as well; he thought the same.

The North is the future direction for the expansion of the kingdom.

To the South lies Noah and, while the relations aren’t that good, you can’t send a bunch of trigger-happy folks over there.

William still wants to maintain control over his Faction!

Besides, Magicians are prone to causing trouble enough already; let’s not lump them together with the Undead Tribe.

Small cities of the Undead Tribe in the South are now burgeoning like weeds.

Initially, William had just erected a defensive line between his own citizens and other nations—little did he expect to one day receive such a grand ”gift”!

That leaves only the West; the Border City and the common folk nearby have already been evacuated.

Besides, there are two Legendary Laws’ Magic Towers in the vicinity, which are capable of suppressing a Legendary Magician even if they lose control.

Compared to other leaders worried about the chaotic alignment of the Magicians, William needn’t fret about this issue.

An oath sworn to him is as binding as one before God, and it will never expire.

Magicians swearing oaths of non-aggression and loyalty to the state to a king means that with the king’s demise, naturally, those oaths become void.

Moreover, them taking orders only from the king is a problematic matter.

This differs from the noble Magicians who, since birth, must swear allegiance to the state, not the king.

Of course, no noble would swear an oath not to harm the king.

An oath from a Magician is great for the king himself, but the Great Nobility would not agree to it.

In this world, the powers of the king seem vast, but that’s because of the scheming among the Nobles.

When all the Great Nobility oppose him, even the king’s commands are useless.

Why wasn’t William as courteous to Hill as he was to Fran? It’s because he knew Hill had sworn an oath of loyalty that wouldn’t harm Saral’s interests.

The king may die, but Saral must not fall—that is the essence of that oath.

And as for himself, Hill couldn’t kill him.

But he also knew that Hill’s loyalty oath was on the premise that Saral did not harm his interests.

This is the way of the nobility in this world: I will serve my country, but if my interests are harmed, then it is not my country any longer.

That’s why when William collected mining resources, he always compensated them more than the value of the resources.

But Mages like Fran are different.

Even if Fran presided over a Magic Tower in Saral, it was akin to signing a job contract.

He was only asked to be diligent while in office, not to revere his former boss after leaving.

Even now, there aren’t many Mages who swear fealty to William.

Despite Carl and Miller’s diligent work, the benefits reaped have set a precedent.

Even though William offered very liberal oaths of allegiance, there were still hardly any High-level Mages who were moved.

Mages always believe that freedom is paramount.

Magicians used to think the same, but now they have realized that their freedom was limited from the start.

So, they might as well find a boss who is more to their liking.
