Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1088: Chapter 623: Eating Melons and Watching the Show—Isn’t It Fun? (Part 2)

This is a comedy-themed TV drama, a costume comedy.

When Zhang Hongyu saw this theme, she immediately understood why Song Chi had instructed her this way.

An actress like Zhang Hongyu cherishes her reputation and would rather not act than take a role that would ruin her reputation.

Even if ”Mother” only has a rating of 0.1, it doesn’t affect her reputation, but if she were to star in a historical romance, no exaggeration, the day the news breaks, the major marketing accounts would say she’s fallen from grace.

Costume comedy is not historical romance, but in the minds of the older generation of actors, comedies are somewhat unrefined.

Zhang Hongyu comes from a background of serious dramas, having acted in them all her life, and suddenly at this time to have her act in a costume comedy...

But Song Chi specifically instructed her, so she could only patiently read the script.

After finishing the script, she finally understood why Song Chi had solemnly handed it to her.

It turned out to be a costume martial arts comedy, somewhat like ”Dragon Gate Inn,” but with a completely different style. It tells the comedic story of an inn owner in the city who inadvertently gets involved in worldly society disputes and a major court case along with her staff.

It was a type of character Zhang Hongyu had never played before.

There were even action scenes.

This inn owner, with a big temper, is fiery, likes to show off, and likes to exploit her staff, appearing very annoying at first glance. But as the plot progresses, her other side is revealed.

Kind, witty, sharp-tongued with a soft heart, in the face of numerous crises, she never abandons a single staff member and uses the wisdom cultivated from years of street business to negotiate with worldly society people and court officials.

After reading the script, Zhang Hongyu was moved.

That’s when she understood what Song Chi meant by ”read the script carefully before making a decision.”

Song Chi knew that once she read the script, she wouldn’t refuse.

Sure enough, after finishing the film ”Laissez-faire” with Song Chi, she immediately joined the cast to start filming this costume martial arts comedy, ”Sword Lady.”

And this drama, due to its theme, was purchased by Chestnut Video at the script stage, and even while still shooting, several top satellite TV stations have come to buy the premiere rights.

It’s benefitting from the theme bonus.

Everyone is optimistic about this script; as long as it’s not poorly shot, it will definitely be a hit.

The online platform Chestnut Video not only invested a portion of the funds but also arranged for their popular actor Xu Zhuqi to be part of this drama, playing the male lead, one of the inn’s staff.

Currently, this drama has not been officially announced and is in a secret filming stage.

Because ”Sword Lady” has many roles, Song Chi invited many friends from his circle to make guest appearances, aiming to create a star-studded cast, so when it is announced, it will be a big surprise.

Song Chi’s expectations for ”Mother” are not in its ratings or popularity, as long as it doesn’t lose money. The key lies in ”Sword Lady,” a drama that can once again showcase Zhang Hongyu’s charm as a top-tier actress to the media and audience.

Song Chi wants this drama to genuinely make Zhang Hongyu ”popular again.”

On the night of the ”Mother” premiere, Zhang Hongyu was still filming and couldn’t watch the premiere.

The same was true for Song Chi.

Instead, it was Zhou Yun watching the premiere in a hotel, and he had Zheng Xiaojue take a picture and post it on Weibo, captioning it: ”Mother” is on, watch it with me!

An hour later, the famous entertainment journalist Lin Xiaomiao exposed a video of Zhou Yun being mocked and fighting back at a ”Mother” crew dinner.

Thus, Zhou Yun, by his own effort, propelled ”Mother” as a keyword to the number one spot on major social media platforms.

That night, the ”Mother” premiere achieved a 0.7 rating, neither good nor bad, but its online streaming popularity directly soared to third place, just behind ”Dragon Ascending” and ”Linjiang Immortal,” with Lew Qing’s ”Heart Palpitating” in fourth.

The next day, Su Yan was interviewed and asked if she was worried about ”Linjiang Immortal” being surpassed by ”Mother.” Su Yan replied, ”We don’t dare compare with any drama starring Sister Hongyu. Sister Hongyu is my idol, I watch every one of her dramas. It’s only normal for her new drama to be well-received.”

”The ratings for ’Linjiang Immortal’ continue to rise; do you think it can surpass ’Heart Inquiry’ in the future?”

”I hope each of my series performs better than the last, but this is just my personal wish. You shouldn’t ask such questions to trouble me. No matter what, ’Heart Inquiry’ is already a classic in the audience’s hearts, isn’t it?” Su Yan said with a wink and a smile.
