Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 814: Chapter 531: Words from the Heart

Zhou Yun once had a brief encounter with Director Zhang Yiwei at the Venice International Film Festival. At that time, she was just a popular celebrity, and ”Life” hadn’t been released yet, much less being in her current state with works and awards. However, Zhang Yiwei wasn’t pretentious at all, nor did he hold any disdain for her. His gaze was warm, and his words to her were encouraging.

Zhou Yun has seen almost every call from Zhang Yiwei.

If many auteur directors are visibly brimming with talent, then Director Zhang Yiwei is definitely another type. His works are very straightforward, almost without any flashy or unique elements, but his pieces, in every aspect, tightly give off a cinematic feel, from the buildup to the climax, the ebb and flow—his works reveal their brilliance without flamboyance.

Zhou Yun has heard many say that Zhang Yiwei is very skilled at training actors. His films often produce Movie Queens and Kings.

It’s just that Zhang Yiwei has never extended an invitation for her to collaborate.

So, when Zhou Lan mentioned that Su Yan has been frequently interacting with Zhang Yiwei’s producer lately, she felt a bit jealous.

Even though she didn’t want to admit it.

Zhou Lan knew what Zhou Yun was thinking too.

Zhou Yun wanted to collaborate with Zhang Yiwei.

Zhou Lan asked, ”Should I also try to get in touch with Zhang Yiwei’s producer?”

Zhou Yun: ”But we don’t even know what Director Zhang Yiwei’s next project is; if we just go to reach out, what can we say?”

”Just chat, and something might come up. Plus, it’s totally fine to openly tell him we’re interested in acting in his film. I mean, what actor wouldn’t want to be in Director Zhang’s movie?” Zhou Lan said.

Zhou Yun: ”But if Director Zhang really wanted me in his movie, why hasn’t he sent us an invitation?”

”He’s a big director; he won’t be short of actors who want to be in his film,” Zhou Lan said. ”We should be proactive and offer an olive branch; it won’t hurt.”

”Sister Lan, can you help me reach out? I’m really torn between wanting to contact him and being embarrassed. I’m afraid Director Zhang might mistakenly think I’m someone who imposes too much,” Zhou Yun sighed. ”Ah, I wasn’t this cowardly before; at worst, it’s just being turned down.”

”Why compare it to before? You were just a rookie, being rejected was no big deal. Now, you’re someone reputable, feeling awkward about rejection is only human,” Zhou Lan said. ”No worries, let me handle this negotiation; even if it ends up in rejection, you won’t lose face.”

Zhou Yun felt particularly embarrassed.

Actually, if you want to work with any director, just express your thoughts directly. Why be so hesitant?

Why fear embarrassment?

Zhou Yun didn’t want to become that kind of person.

She said, ”I have to proactively reach out to Director Zhang, see when he’s available, and invite him to a meal.”

Zhou Lan asked in surprise, ”You’re planning to directly ask him?”

”Offering myself, it might not be for this film, but he needs to know I want to star in his film,” Zhou Yun nodded, affirming herself, ”I have to personally say it.”

Zhou Lan nodded, respecting Zhou Yun’s decision.

”Then I’ll still communicate with his producer, see what Director Zhang’s next film plans are.”

Typically, top directors like Zhang Yiwei and Kang Xin have several projects in progress and preparation at the same time, balancing various aspects to decide which one to launch first.

Among them, there might be a role suitable for Zhou Yun to play.

But after Zhou Lan communicated with Zhang Yiwei’s producer once, she brought back the news.

”There is indeed a film in Director Zhang’s hands where they considered inviting you to act, but since it’s only a supporting role, he worried you might not be willing, so they never sent it over,” Zhou Lan said, then added, ”Plus, this film requires a long shoot; that role needs the actor to commit four months to filming. Honestly, I’m hesitant; if it were the female lead, fine, but for a supporting role requiring so much time—it’s time you simply can’t afford right now. Director Zhang probably also realized your likelihood of agreeing to it is low, so didn’t send the script.”

Upon hearing this, Zhou Yun asks, ”Is Su Yan also interacting with them for that role?”
