Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 809: Chapter 529: Sudden Leave of Absence (2)

Zhou Yun and Zeng Lili both understood drama, so they nodded silently.

Observing, Song Chi realized that Ning Yufeng wasn’t the type of director who liked to delve into details; he preferred to see actors express their individuality, provided that their performance could blend into the overall rhythm of the play.

For both Zeng Lili and Zhou Yun, if their pacing was too fast or too slow, Ning Yufeng would candidly ask for a retake.

The scene shot that afternoon was indeed excellent.

After wrapping up in the evening, Zhou Yun arranged for Song Chi to have dinner with Ning Yufeng.

Song Chi proactively brought up the idea of Ning Yufeng possibly filming with his company.

Upon hearing this, Ning Yufeng politely declined Song Chi, expressing his thoughts: ”I’m not one to handle restrictions well, and I don’t like doing those custom-made pieces. I either write my own or find ones I’m interested in; being tied to one company would make me miss out on a lot.”

Song Chi, hearing this, pondered for a moment and asked, ”How about we discuss a collaborative relationship then?”

Ning Yufeng looked at Song Chi puzzled.

”I don’t require you to only work on productions from us, nor do I demand that you bring all your projects to us. But if you have good ideas or projects, you can come to me, and I’ll help find funding and connect you with buyers,” Song Chi said. ”Of course, if I have suitable projects, I’ll prioritize recommending them to you. If you’re interested in directing, we can collaborate in that area. I know many would love to work with you, but I believe they can’t offer you the same flexible conditions. My goal is to create more and better works, and I deeply understand how crucial a director’s role is in a film.”

Ning Yufeng said, ”I’ll go back and think about it.”

Song Chi said, ”Let’s add each other as friends, and we can discuss further. Even if you ultimately don’t work with us, don’t forget, I’m also an actor. I’d love the opportunity to work with you.”

Ning Yufeng looked at Song Chi with some surprise.

Song Chi smiled brightly.

After dinner, Zhou Yun asked Song Chi if he wanted to go to the hotel with her to rest for a while.

Song Chi agreed.

At first, he said he was just there to meet someone.

”You’ve been nominated for three Lingjun Awards this time, lots of people are talking. Has anyone mentioned it to you?” Song Chi asked.

Zhou Yun shook her head and said, ”I’ve just received a lot of calls and messages congratulating me.”

”I don’t even know how it happened, getting three nominations this time.” Song Chi took a deep breath, ”Actually, it’s not necessarily a good thing.”

”Tall trees catch the wind?”

”It’s more than just tall trees catching the wind now. Every company that signs actresses is certainly wary. There are only three major awards each year, and the total number of Best Actress nominations is fifteen at most. The repeat rate of nominees for the film’s three major awards is quite high, and with five Lingjun Award nominations, you alone have taken two spots. I worry about the joint suppression from other companies. Moreover, many of the older generation hope these awards are used to encourage all actors; there might be concerns that you receiving too many nominations could dampen others’ enthusiasm.”

Zhou Yun shrugged and said, ”I know, but when I signed up, I never imagined I’d receive so many nominations.”

”It’s partly because this year’s a lean year.” Song Chi sighed, ”It’s best to keep a low profile for the time being.”

”Why, has someone mentioned this to you?” Zhou Yun asked perceptively.

”It doesn’t matter what others say. I’m worried that your rapid rise might lead to the kind of suppression I faced,” Song Chi said.

Song Chi, at a young age, achieved a domestic Best Actor grand slam, and his popularity soared to astonishing heights, stifling all other male actors.

So much so that in the following years, Song Chi faced hidden rules in all award selections, with stricter standards than others.

Just like ”Heart Inquiry,” given the drama’s reputation and fame, and with Song Chi as the lead, he has yet to receive a Best Actor award.

The key point is that almost no one, whether in the industry or online, thinks he shouldn’t have won Best Actor.

An agreement has formed where Song Chi has won so many awards that unless there’s a significant breakthrough, he shouldn’t receive more.

This has consequently cost Song Chi many opportunities.
