The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Chapter 205: Chapter 205: Threatening the Boss at Work?_1

”Mr. Flores, this is Remy Johnston...”

The next day at noon, while Carson Flores was getting his meal in the factory cafeteria, Remy Johnston called him.

Carson asked with a smile, ”How’s the old gentleman doing now?”

Remy’s voice was excited and relaxed, ”He’s recovering very well, he just needs to rest for a while and then he can be discharged. Mr. Flores, do you have time tonight? I’d like to invite you and your wife to a casual meal to express my thanks.”

Carson cheerfully answered, ”Sure, if there’s meat to eat and wine to drink, I definitely have time.”

Remy laughed heartily, ”I can see that, Mr. Flores, you are a man of passion. Well, tonight we must drink to our heart’s content, not stopping until we’re drunk!”

Carson readily agreed, ”Okay!”

Remy asked, ”Could you give me your address? I’ll send someone to pick you up.”

Carson replied, ”Seashore Pharmaceutical Factory No. 6. Both my wife and I work here.”

Remy asked in surprise, ”With your medical skills, why are you working in a pharmaceutical factory? Are you involved in drug development?”

Carson replied with a grin, ”I’m not at that level. I’m working as a security guard.”

”Security guard?”

Remy was downright baffled by Carson’s response. He really wanted to ask Carson, are you serious?

Your wife’s stunning beauty, her demeanor, her dress, she looks every bit a top-level corporate executive. You drive a BMW X5 and wear a watch worth over a million, but you’re telling me you’re a security guard?

Carson explained breezily, ”My wife is the CEO of Polgel’s River Miller Group. The Miller Group has acquired Pharmaceutical Factory No. 6. There’s a serious problem of corruption inside, with a lot of collusion, so I’m acting as a security guard for a while. It gives me a legitimate reason to slack off, and also helps me to quietly check out what’s going on in the factory.”

Remy realized in an instant, ”Mr. Flores, that’s a clever move. Those people guard against the higher-ups, but who would guard against a security guard?”

Carson laughed, ”That’s the idea.”

Remy chuckled, ”Alright then, I’ll come pick you up at six.”

After lunch, Carson returned to the guardhouse to continue his duty at the gate.

The guardhouse was manned by just two people, handling gate entries, collecting exit permits; it was a relaxing job as it was hassle-free and nobody was breathing down their neck.

Just as they were about to finish their shift, the head of the security department suddenly made a call.

”All hands on deck, bring your batons to the plaza outside the office building, there’s a disturbance.”

”Got it!”

Carson hung up the phone, and he and his colleague quickly grabbed their batons and headed to the scene of the incident.

Turning around the building, Carson saw a large, dense crowd and also spotted Shirley Miller standing in front of the crowd.

By Shirley Miller’s side were the factory director Roy Jimenez and three middle-aged men and women, all of whom had rather unpleasant expressions on their faces.

”Eithan Fuentes, what are you trying to do?”

Eithan, the sales manager, sneered, ”Ms. Miller comes in and starts talking about cutting our jobs—we obviously need to have a reasonable talk with Ms. Miller.”

Roy Jimenez snorted, ”If you want to talk things over, why not do it in the office? Stirring everyone up like this, do you still want to work here?”

Eithan Fuentes sneered back, ”I’d like to keep my job if you’d let me, Roy. Don’t pretend your back isn’t aching when you’re standing. You don’t stand up for us old buddies, and instead, you stabbed us in the back, kicking us into Hell, while getting yourself off scot-free. You are so pleased with your scheme, aren’t you?”

The head of the equipment department, Sam Reid, also spoke sarcastically, ”Ms. Miller, you’ve only been here two days, and already you’ve brought in professional auditors. How far back are you planning to check the books? You know, the Miller Group hadn’t acquired the pharmaceutical factory back then. Aren’t you casting a rather wide net with this audit?”

The logistics manager, Benicio Combs, chimed in, ”As soon as you came in, you’re planning to fire all of us. We’ve been loyal servants of this company. The success the company enjoys now, we might not have major achievements, but we’ve put in hard work. Now you want to get rid of us without a word, and we won’t accept it!”

”That’s right, we won’t accept it!”

”We won’t accept it!”

”We demand an explanation!”

”If anyone costs me my job, I’ll make sure nobody here can work in peace!”

The voices from the crowd grew loud and chaotic. From what was said and the tone, it was clear these people had banded together to make trouble in hopes of making Shirley Miller back down and give up her plans to dismiss them.

Carson found it amusing; these people really had the nerve, threatening the boss.

When Shirley Miller saw Carson making his way through the crowd, an immediate sense of courage filled her. She felt no fear as she spoke with a cold voice, ”You’ve been lining your pockets on the company’s dime for years now, and you don’t want me to hold you accountable or audit the books? Fine, I have a list here. Those on the list can leave on their own, and I’ll overlook your past misdeeds.”

Eithan Fuentes shouted, ”We all come from the same place. If we go, we go together, if we stay, we stay together, right?”

”Right!”

”You can’t fire us!”

”If you dare fire me, I’ll make sure none of you can operate normally ever again!”

Facing the shouting crowd, Shirley Miller didn’t step back an inch and sneered, ”Do you think just because you have numbers I will bow to you? The world operates on reason, on law, not on who’s loudest!”
