Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 690: Chapter 688: Underwater Discoveries

After the Sea Horse Cavalry entered the water, without any heroes or bosses to command them, they immediately headed towards the depths.

This situation was different from when they were seen near their own Pier District.

The Sea Horse Cavalry before them had obviously changed; the seahorses they rode had all turned a purplish-red, and their movement speed in the water was noticeably faster.

At the same time, their weapons had also become somewhat longer.

If you looked closely, you’d find that a large number of skulls were hanging from the bellies of these seahorses, trophies the Sea Horse Cavalry acquired upon completing their conquests.

Each skull was a testament to the Sea Horse Cavalry’s bravery.

Following them were the Mermaids, who had not changed significantly.

However, the Mermaids moved much more nimbly than the Sea Horse Cavalry, navigating the water freely like birds.

In areas the Sea Horse Cavalry couldn’t traverse, these Mermaids could easily pass through.

So, some Mermaids swam around to explore, trying to see if there was anything different around.

Before long, a few Mermaids quickly swam back and gestured in front of the Sea Horse Cavalry.

The Sea Horse Cavalry immediately realized that this meant an enemy had been found.

So the Sea Horse Cavalry promptly followed the Mermaids to the location.

The mission of the Sea Horse Cavalry was to clear a path; their goal was simple, to ensure the safety of this channel.

Now having discovered a problem, the Sea Horse Cavalry naturally had to go and handle it.

Thus, the Sea Horse Cavalry swiftly headed towards the location identified by the Mermaids.

After rounding a bend, the Sea Horse Cavalry saw the unusual area the Mermaids had found.

It turned out to be a not very large cave, only small-sized units like the Mermaids could fit through.

Larger units, such as the Sea Horse Cavalry, simply couldn’t enter.

Peering into the cave from the entrance, one would see a heap of statues the size of ordinary people stacked like trash.

The Sea Horse Cavalry had never seen such things, nor did they sense any vitality from them, and couldn’t discern if these were decorations or enemies.

Had Gu Xi been there, they would have immediately realized that these statues piled here were actually a type of unit named Stone Giant.

This type of Stone Giant is a basic unit from the Alchemist side, which can later promote to Iron People, Golden People, and Diamond People.

Or to Iron Golem, Steel Golem, and Magnetic Golem.

One could say this is the foundation of a large series.

Gu Xi had encountered such things before; during the attack on the Evil God Hall, Fang Kang’s subordinates wielded similar items.

It was just that Gu Xi’s encounters with Fang Kang were few back then.

They hadn’t witnessed the Stone Giant in action.

Although scattered, these Stone Giants lay piled together, their bodies covered with water plants.

But who could guarantee that none among these statues could still move?

With this in mind, the Sea Horse Cavalry quickly dispatched two squads to guard the area, while sending Mermaids to inform Gu Xi of the news.

Since they were too large, they had no way of entering at the moment.

For now, they could only wait outside for Gu Xi’s orders.

Fortunately, the Mermaids were not dim-witted; they figured if there was one cave hiding Stone Giants, there must be others nearby, so they didn’t immediately report upward.

Instead, they swiftly began searching, and with their efforts, soon discovered seven more such caves.

In the end, the Sea Horse Cavalry had no choice but to abandon their forward march and stationed themselves outside these caves as guards.

When Gu Xi received the news, more than an hour had already passed.

Upon hearing the situation, Gu Xi was slightly surprised. He had expected the Sea Horse Cavalry might encounter enemies, but hadn’t anticipated they would discover numerous Stone Giant corpses underwater.

Though whether these were corpses remained to be seen, Gu Xi had already formed a judgment.

With this in mind, Gu Xi didn’t linger further. He directly plunged into the water.

The moment Gu Xi entered the water, the Water Dragon Beast appeared beneath his feet.

With the protection of the Water Dragon Beast, Gu Xi didn’t need to worry about breathing underwater.

At the same time, his vision underwater was also protected by the Water Dragon Beast.

Under the guidance of the Mermaids, Gu Xi quickly arrived at the nearest cave to the shore.

Peering into the cave, Gu Xi noticed obvious differences from the Mermaids.

The Mermaids had thought the area simply looked peculiar.

But Gu Xi, upon looking inside the cave, noticed some different information.

These Stone Giants were abandoned.

As for why they were abandoned, Gu Xi wasn’t sure yet, but based on the direction and situation in which they had fallen, it seemed they had abruptly received an order, ceased operations, and were finally toppled by water.

Even though they had been submerged for so long, these things should still be usable.

Gu Xi didn’t disdain these Stone Giants. He thought it over and decisively ordered the Ghost Squad to come for transport.

The Ghost Squad never deferred from Gu Xi’s orders.

As Ghosts, while not a genuine underwater force, they weren’t much hindered by water either.

Especially for the Ghost Squad, which was adept at transporting items, they had quickly figured out methods and tricks for transporting goods underwater after only a few trials.

Soon, the corpses of the Stone Giants from each cave were cleared away.

Meanwhile, under Gu Xi’s orders, the Mermaids entered the caves, searching for any other traces left behind.

As for Gu Xi, he proceeded onwards with the Sea Horse Cavalry.

Gu Xi was very aware of his goal.

The Stone Giants inside the cave were not what he had come to this world to find.

His target was an enemy he could defeat in large numbers.

Therefore, he still wanted to find the next site of the Underworld in the shortest time possible.

There, Gu Xi would encounter his enemy, rather than, like now, transporting fallen corpses as if opening chests along the way.

Moreover, they were Stone Giant corpses.

Just as Gu Xi and his team were navigating a few bends in the water and were about to find the next Underworld entrance, the Mermaids caught up from behind.

”Sir.”

Living underwater, Mermaids could speak and even sing in the water, a feat the Sea Horse Cavalry couldn’t match.

Upon catching up, they immediately spoke to Gu Xi.

”Sir, in the emptied caves, we’ve discovered something very strange.”
