Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5247: A Steep Marriage Proposal?

”She could be...” The Celestial Transcendent said perfunctorily, ”But even if she is there, it’s better if the two of you don’t meet and exchange words that sound warm, lest she be branded a heretic by the others. Although she’s my disciple, she is under considerable pressure. There are surging voices demanding her proof of loyalty through the act of sealing you.”

”...”

Davis dropped his raised hand slowly and clenched his fist gently

His pursed lips smashed together, a deep frown appearing over his brows.

The urge to go see her was plenty, but he couldn’t understand why his little sister would make such a proposal.

Surely, she knew they would approve of a married woman.

Even while being socially inept, Clara was still keen on critically reviewing his wives or wife candidates, to be exact. As a little sister, she made sure he got the best of the best. She supported Shirley over Evelynn, thinking the latter didn’t have much status or influence. She was also keen on the virtues a wife must uphold, including being chaste and noble.

So he couldn’t understand why Clara would recommend a married woman to marry one of his sons.

Did she think he didn’t value his sons, or did she think this matter was beyond that?

Sure, anyone would sell their sons if it meant gaining a Realm Core and becoming the Realm Master of an Upper Realm, but his little sister should know that such benefits were unable to move him. He despised political marriages. Even his marriage with Evelynn- he had torn up the contract and denied any benefits the Cauldon Family would be getting since he had practically poached her from them.

He couldn’t understand if Clara really wanted the Davis Family to have a safe place and logically decided that such sacrifice was necessary, or if she wanted her new friend to be safe with them.

Since Clara could see beyond falsehoods, he supposed Madam Wesley wasn’t a bad person, but she was still a married woman. How could his conservative wives, the mothers of his sons, accept such social disgrace?

He couldn’t see how Clara made his proposition while knowing it wouldn’t have a chance to succeed, unless, of course...

’Madam Wesley still retains her purity...?’

Davis had question marks appear over his head.

If he recalled vaguely, Madam Wesley’s husband, Maxim Wesley, loved her deeply, and it was said they were together for a long time, around two hundred years. However, Madam Wesley had been sick for those two hundred years, never waking up.

He wondered if it was a case of soul paralysis caused by some kind of poison, but with how she was the possessor of a blessing from an Ancestral World Spirit, the matter didn’t seem too simple.

Still, for the husband to use up his wealth, trying to get a cure for the poison, slap his own father for stopping him, offend a Heaven’s Warrior all for the sake of seeing his wife’s health be restored, he didn’t think this was a one-sided love.

So what if she was still pure? He wasn’t letting his sons marry someone who had already experienced love and became fulfilled in their hearts once. He didn’t understand why Madam Wesley would agree to this marriage, but he didn’t feel the need to check, dismissing it after just a few seconds of pondering.

Above anything, even if he agreed, his wives wouldn’t agree.

Then he contemplated how to deal with the Realm Core’s binding should Madam Wesley interfere if she were to be used against them.

He absolutely could not use Calypsea to claim, influence, or use the Realm Core since he felt there was a high likelihood for the Golden Era to recede. Back then, even as they had Calypsea threaten the Realm Core Spirits, the spirits were afraid that they might bring the Desolate Era by overstraining the Realm Cores through the usage of their abilities.

In this vulnerable time, it would easily affect the Golden Era that came in an untimely manner.

Literally no one expected it. Otherwise, there would be plenty of Mystic Diviners shouting ’joyous tidings, joyous tidings~’ across the realms.

No one can predict when it would end either.

It was precisely because they can’t predict that the Celestial Transcendent was also asking his opinion.

After deciding, he opened his mouth with a calm smile.

”Clara isn’t the head of the Davis Family. I’ll keep what she said in mind, but we’ll go our original path. If we lose, I’ll simply step out. That’s the word I gave you. There’s no need for me to force this matter since there are plenty of other ways for me to make my family safer instead of putting them under your supervision where you could leverage them against me.”

”Haha,” The Celestial Transcendent laughed lightly, ”I am not so cruel or weak enough to hold your family hostage. Furthermore, it is absolutely shameless for me to act in such a manner that even my wife would look down on me, especially when it’s against a junior. In fact, it’s you who’s holding my family’s son-in-law hostage!”

His voice was thunderous by the end, causing the Illumina and the others to shudder.

Davis frowned, his gaze cold, ”What about the Handsome Fatty Bjorn’s family then?”

”Hmph!”

The Celestial Transcendent flicked his sleeve, ”I didn’t take his family. My unfilial son did through commanding Venerable Elders to arrest the family members of suspected individuals who are helping the Heavenly Blight Hall, which naturally includes you, so I went out of my way to route that shameless fatty’s family members back to safety where I can oversee them and make sure no harm befalls them for the time being.”

”...” Handsome Fatty’s gaze shook, but he didn’t interfere in the conversation.

He still held his breath, watching his friend talk nearly equally with the Celestial Transcendent without much fear, boldly questioning.

”Your unfilial son...?”

Davis’s gaze flickered. He recalled the leader of the Heavenly Guardian Consortium for the human race was rumored to be the son of the Supreme Ruler.

He was aware that the Heavenly Guardian Consortium spans across the galaxies and they disdained participating in galaxy or race wars. Their mission was to solely hunt Divergents and other evil presences and lifeforms.

On the other hand, the Celestial Seeds, like the Celestial Transcendent and the other rulers, were only guest elders with significant influence there, but their influence was not greater than the leaders of the Heavenly Guardian Consortium.

The Celestial Transcendent clenched his teeth.

”Transcendent Truth Eyes... it utterly makes them devoid of any human emotion. In that regard, your little sister is somewhat special, and she says it’s thanks to you who nurtured her in the initial years.”

He gazed at Davis with a complex gaze before looking away and recalling his own actions pertaining to his son, wondering where it went wrong.

He then shook his head, returning his gaze to Davis.

”We are humans. I have always preached that we are hunters with the intelligence to commit greater violence than beasts, but also possess the restraint to make it meaningful. You embody it quite well.”

He praised Davis with a solemn gaze before turning around, but gave him one last look.

”It’s your decision to make. Madam Wesley is a poor child. She lost her memories and is depressed enough to commit suicide. You would do well to remember that she declined becoming my adopted daughter and enjoy countless riches just to repay your little sister and marry into your falling family despite her own bleak circumstances of being hunted down by the Hydra Galaxy’s forces.”

He flicked his wrist, bringing out another treasure that appeared to be a replica before it disappeared in a flash.

Davis’s eyes had narrowed into tiny slits.

”You dare try to marry off a lady who lost her memories? Shameless!”

He couldn’t see what it was but shouted back at the Celestial Transcendent’s disappearing figure.

”It’s your little sister who’s shameless then~”

”~!@#$%^&*”

Davis nearly burst out cursing, barely suppressing himself from saying that it was his disciple who was shameless and not his little sister, but it would just end up insulting his little sister in the end.

He exhaled two breaths from being stumped over having lost an argument more than twice.

He told Illumina and the others to be careful before descending into a valley.

This valley was more like an abyss as it led to the depths.

After crossing danger zones and numerous defensive formations, he chanced upon what he recognized as the Abyssal Hydra Bloodfruit, a heavenly resource containing the tenacious regeneration ability of a hydra and immunization to major kinds of poison. It seemed to have just matured from the blessings of the Golden Era.

Why did he know of this treasure? Because this fruit was born from the very tree the ghosts were tortured near the Ethereal Lumina Tree before the creation of the Twelve Bastion Cities. Their bloodsoul essence had all gone to bear this fruit. Some ghosts who were aware of the treasure told him through the white stone replica, upon resonating with the tree that seemed to have been reimplanted all the way from the Bastion Cities to this place.

His smile couldn’t help but return as he finally found something that would make his family’s chances of obtaining the Realm Core higher.
