Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5232: Courting Death, Reaping Life

”Haha, it’s the fate of a true supreme genius to never be blessed with suitable armaments, for they end up leaving it behind.”

The Celestial Transcendent laughed.

Davis also smiled, but his smile was one of sorrow.

No matter how he asked, the Celestial Transcendent wasn’t teaching him anymore. The other party really seemed to have finally put him on the list of real threats. He had asked for an explanation of the Phyletic Laws of Scythe many times now that even he felt his face burn with embarrassment, but it still wasn’t provided.

He missed the days when the Celestial Transcendent would just yap his mouth off telling him everything, but at the very least, he guessed it was good that he wasn’t being thrashed.

Earlier, after the Celestial Transcendent didn’t allow him to practice his scythe on the Hydra Galaxy’s forces, they had gone silent, but shortly started a conversation, discussing the state of this realm and the Hydra Galaxy.

The Celestial Transcendent wanted to cleanse this realm of its filth. However, it was a tricky part because nearly every major power had taken part in this filth. Cleansing them meant killing hundreds of billions of people, so it wasn’t wise to do such a thing.

The only way to move forward was to impose rules and laws as a Realm Master and then change the ways of the major powers from the inside out while spending a long period of time. It could take millions of years for the change to eclipse the realm, and he was willing to wait that long since it was just a blink of an eye for him if he entered seclusion.

That’s why he wanted to choose the best candidate now, whether it be someone from the Hydra race, challengers, or even the Davis Family’s non-Divergents.

Davis felt content hearing that.

As long as he could secure an Upper Realm, then even if he were to disappear from the world, his family would be able to survive well with a Realm Master helming it.

He had no doubt that with his terrifying children reigning the helm, they would sooner or later shock the world.

However, before he could rejoice, he was also told that supreme geniuses would emerge to beat the Davis Family’s candidate solely to earn fame and reputation because it would mean defeating the Divine Emperor of Death himself, making Davis speechless.

He complained that the heavens were unfair.

But the Celestial Transcendent said otherwise.

”The heavens is fair. It always knows where Divergents are, but it would never tell the Heaven’s Warriors unless they make an exposing move that correlates with fate or they are caught within the confines of a tribulation.”

Davis already knew it, so he wasn’t surprised.

After all, the heavens practically kept a lookout over him and Natalya during her Heavenly Restriction Pact challenge.

He only paused slightly for a moment before his expression turned firm, ”What exactly are the heavens? Just an autonomous Will? A sentient Will or a primordial spirit?”

”...”

”Maybe just a cultivator like us?”

”You talk too much.”

The Celestial Transcendent turned to glare at him.

From then on, the Celestial Transcendent refused to speak with him until Yama’s breakthrough, as it comprehended Level One Obscure Intent of Phyletic Laws of Scythe, prompting him to repeatedly ask about it but failing to get any information.

It wasn’t until Yama’s attempt to breakthrough to Exalt Grade failed that the Celestial Transcendent opened his mouth again.

Davis reached out his hand, beckoning Yama back to him.

”I will return your son-in-law on the day after the realm succession occurs, but the conditions will be demanded by me and negotiated by Jiayi Crystalveil and then received by Anastasia Archus. Your eminence better hope that my merchant speaks for your family in good will and your granddaughter doesn’t screw it up.”

The Celestial Transcendent gazed at the icy mountain, his robe swaying with the wind as a gust of wind flew past them before he spoke.

”You better protect my son-in-law. There are numerous villains who want to kill him just to get back at me, so even when you bring him here, you have to be careful. If he dies, I will personally hold you and your family accountable and will not rest until I make sure you all deeply... regret... it.”

”Got it...”

Davis pursed his lips as he spun Yama around and slashed at the Celestial Transcendent, who dodged it wordlessly.

”What are you doing?”

Davis held the trembling Yama, ”Uhmm, this scythe of mine is incredibly cowardly, so I thought if it could get a piece of flesh from you, it wouldn’t be afraid of anything anymore.”

”...”

*Bzzzz!~*

Dark tribulation clouds formed above.

The Celestial Transcendent gazed up at the skies, his wordless expression turning speechless as he saw the damned scythe actually start to break through to the Exalt Grade.

What? Had it been afraid of him the whole time that it didn’t dare break through here...?

Davis was also dumbfounded.

”I understand... I understand...!” Yama exclaimed in a frantic voice, ”Courting death while being afraid as I crave life is forever my spirit’s path, but the body needs to be fearless as death, reaping life...!”

The scythe blade rumbled heavily, even resonating with Davis’s own Phyletic Laws of Scythe as its words gave him a sudden sense of inspiration. Evidently, Yama’s increase in its comprehension of Phyletic Laws of Scythe allowed it to sow life unto itself.

As a life-death attribute scythe, it was capable of growth at an innate level, and Phyletic Laws of Scythe helped reap its innate limit, making it a bit easier for it to break through.

It flew into the skies, enduring three lightning strikes before returning to Davis in the span of a dozen seconds.

Davis held Yama in his arms as it released the aura of life and death as a Low-Level Exalt Grade Armament.

At that moment, he felt like Yama had gotten closer to Level Two Obscure intent in Phyletic Laws of Scythe, just a bit away from his own comprehension level. If they could clean this battlefield right now, perhaps they would unlock the next level together, but Davis obediently kept Yama inside his soul sea and fled.

Who knew if the Celestial Transcendent would change his mind and attack him for being sneak-attacked?

The Celestial Transcendent watched him leave before scoffing exasperatedly, then returned his gaze to the Hell Hydra Monarch’s true body.

It seemed like this sealing technique might not even hold for two months at this rate.

If it weren’t for the Hell Hydra Monarch being suppressed by this Upper Realm with the support of Celestial Transcendent Galaxy because the other party was the Supreme Ruler of the Nine-Headed Hydra Galaxy, he would find it hard to keep him sealed this long.

However, if even two more of the remaining eight bodies of the Nine-Headed Hydra Galaxy appear here, it wouldn’t be hard for the Hell Hydra Monarch to change the tide.

The Hell Hydra Monarch knew of many dimensional pathways, including just getting a familiar Supreme of some dimension to open a path for him into this realm. Although the Celestial Transcendent knew he wouldn’t be in danger, he knew this might not bode well for the human race if he didn’t deal with this diplomatically.

The humans who had settled in the Hydra Galaxy, particularly the Divine Exalt line of cultivators who were exiled, would be more than happy to infiltrate and take revenge. Fortunately, the Galaxy Wormhole didn’t open to a Greater Realm but to an Upper Realm, so they weren’t able to come so quickly, but within two months, the chances of them appearing would increase drastically each day.
