Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”You...” Ji Chuan looked Yan Huan up and down for a long time before slowly spitting out a sentence, ”Can you do it?”

”You really underestimate me!” Yan Huan gave him a side eye, ”Don’t worry, there’s a saying that when a gentleman is away for three days, one should look at him with new eyes! I will definitely make your parents feel at ease with me.”

”Alright. Since you’re so confident, I’ll trust you this once!” Ji Chuan said with a smile, ”This time when my parents come over, I won’t be able to move conveniently, so it’s sure to be quite a hassle. I’ll have to trouble you to arrange everything, and if possible, try not to disturb Deputy Commander Yan.”

”Don’t worry! I’ve got it under control.” Yan Huan was full of confidence.

Regarding the last extensive training drill, the in-depth interview by Yan Huan and Tan Xiaomei was extremely successful.

The article they co-wrote was published in the military district’s newspaper, and the district gave it a front-page headline, fully endorsing their interview.

Chief Wei of the News Propaganda Department couldn’t stop grinning, as this was a significant appearance in the district. His soldiers did well, and it brought him pride too.

A week after the article was published, the higher-ups gave a verbal commendation and instructed Chief Wei to properly nurture these two ”pens” in the team.

Chief Wei thought of holding a small celebration at the canteen, bringing along these competent aides for a little celebration.

Coincidentally, Qiu Xinyi’s transfer order had also come through, and within the next couple of days, she would leave Nancheng for another city.

She was busy with the handover of work these two days.

In the office, Yan Huan was busy organizing the manuscript while waiting for Qingmei’s call.

Yesterday they had discussed and booked the train tickets for this morning, and Qingmei had promised to call Yan Huan. Judging by the time, it should be around now.

”Sister Yan, I heard Chief Wei is planning to treat us to dinner tonight! Are you coming?” Tan Xiaomei, tired of writing, put down her pen and stretched lazily.

”No, I can’t go.” Yan Huan said without lifting her head, ”Ji Chuan’s parents are coming, tonight’s their first meal here, how can I ditch my future parents-in-law, and go have dinner myself? Anyway, Chief Wei’s dinner is nothing major, just a little celebration.”

Qiu Xinyi was also busy sorting out her things, and when she heard Yan Huan’s words, her body suddenly stiffened, a feeling of displeasure welled up in her heart.

Ji Chuan’s parents are coming!

The matter between Ji Chuan and Yan Huan is going to be finalized...

Tan Xiaomei noticed Qiu Xinyi’s expression, pursed her lips, and silently cursed: ”Serves you right!”

Ignoring her own happiness to meddle in others’ relationships, now look what happened! Got slapped in the face, didn’t you?

”Your future parents-in-law are coming! That’s a top priority matter!” Tan Xiaomei deliberately raised her voice and leaned closer to Yan Huan, ”Then go explain to Chief Wei, or else, he’s all excited to celebrate for you, and suddenly you don’t show up; wouldn’t Chief Wei be very disappointed?”

”What’s there to be disappointed about? Besides, if I don’t go, aren’t you there? You’re also his competent aide!”

”Oh, come on. Chief Wei likes you even more.”

The two of them were in the middle of this banter when the phone on the table rang.

It was none other than Chief Wei.

Tan Xiaomei picked up the phone, exchanged a few words, then hung up: ”Let’s go, Chief Wei is inviting us!”

Yan Huan, feeling tired from writing, tossed the pen aside and stood up: ”Just in time to have a word with Chief Wei.”

”Officer Qiu, you’re invited too! Chief Wei specifically mentioned you!” Tan Xiaomei shot a glance at Qiu Xinyi and said.
