Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Until her father was discharged from the hospital, she hadn’t had another word with Ji Chuan.

Since then, in her heart, she both resented and loved Ji Chuan. When she didn’t see him, she was filled with resentment, but when she saw him, she was smitten all over again.

But later on, no matter what she did, Ji Chuan remained indifferent to her.

She lived with a deep sense of frustration for such a long time. Her heart was already quite unsettled, and she hadn’t expected that as soon as the troops returned, she would receive a call from leadership.

Early in the morning, she was called to the office for a chat. The topic of that chat was to transfer her—not a promotion, just a lateral move from one regiment to another. However, the location of the headquarters was different, and so was the city.

This meant she wouldn’t be able to stay in Nancheng City any longer; she would have to leave.

According to the role and work of Staff Officer Qiu, he shouldn’t be residing in Nancheng. But he was a nostalgic type, his wife had breathed her last breath here, so the place held indelible memories for him.

He and Qin Jian were quite alike; their work wasn’t in this city, but they settled here, living in the dormitories of their units.

With Qiu Xinyi’s lateral move, she could work in the same city as her father, yet she was not happy at all. Because that place didn’t have Ji Chuan.

Qiu Xinyi went straight to the regiment commander to report her state of mind, bluntly telling the commander she wouldn’t go.

She told the commander that she had put down roots here and wouldn’t go anywhere.

When it came to soliciting her opinion from above, her response was just that—no explanation needed.

But the commander told her that this was a decision already made after a meeting by superior leaders, not something for her to consider, and there was no need to seek her opinion now.

They were just waiting for the official transfer order to move her from this place.

Qiu Xinyi was almost in tears: ”Weren’t we just discussing soliciting opinions? How come things have changed now?”

Commander: ”That was just a discussion to prepare you psychologically for the transfer!”

”I won’t accept this. I want to call the Staff Officer!” Qiu Xinyi, eyes reddened, almost thirty and acting like a spoiled child, throwing a tantrum regardless of the occasion.

”Comrade Qiu Xinyi, mind your behavior! You’re a soldier; go where the revolutionary work needs you...”

Before the commander could finish, Qiu Xinyi picked up the phone on the commander’s desk and called Staff Officer Qiu, but it was unfortunate timing as he was in a call.

”Comrade Qiu Xinyi! Control your emotions, please. You wouldn’t want to be disciplined right before you leave, would you?” The commander, seeing her defy orders like this, thought she really had gone too far.

He had seen many officers’ children working here, but someone like Qiu Xinyi was a first.

”I’m sorry, Commander. I just wanted to have a word with my father. Please forgive my rash behavior earlier...”

At that moment, Staff Officer Qiu was indeed on a call, actually, with Qin Jian.

Since Qin Jian had decided to transfer Qiu Xinyi, all the corresponding tasks must be accomplished. The primary issue right before him was Staff Officer Qiu.
