Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

This table is where the leaders sit, like the political commissar, the division chief of staff, and others, all dining here.

When they saw Ning Chenyang, it was like seeing a smaller version of Qin Jian.

”Old Qin, your son is really something! He’s the spitting image of you.” Liu Jing squinted with a smile at Ning Chenyang, reaching out to pat his head, ”Not bad, young man! I heard from your father that you are quite eager about military life! Ambitious! What’s your name?”

”My name is Ning Chenyang! It’s my dream to become a special forces soldier in the future! I’m here with my dad this time to experience military life, and I hope all the uncles will look out for me!” Ning Chenyang finished speaking and stood at attention, giving a very solemn and standard military salute to the leaders at the table.

”Not bad! Quite impressive, kid! Sit down and eat!” Division Chief of Staff Xu Shanming said admiringly.

Qin Jian, seeing his son’s performance, nodded his head in satisfaction and said to Ning Chenguang, ”Go on, see what you want to eat, and go get your own food back!”

”Yes!” Ning Chenyang went off happily.

The orderly Xiaozhou returned with Qin Jian’s food but hadn’t had time to deal with Ning Chenyang before Qin Jian sent him off: ”Xiaozhou, go have your meal. Let Chenyang get his own food!”

”Yes, Sir!”

Qin Jian picked up his chopsticks, ready to eat, noticing that the staff canteen food was quite good today, so he asked with a smile, ”Why is the meal being improved today?”

”Yes.” Xu Shanming replied, taking a big bite of braised pork with a smile, ”This afternoon the Division Reconnaissance Battalion will conduct an obstacle cross-country race, followed by intensive shooting training.”

”I see the Reconnaissance Battalion has been training very hard recently! There’s a joint exercise to attend soon, and Old Gao is really pushing them hard!” Political Commissar Liu Jing said.

”Everyone’s been working hard lately. Xu Shanming, later you’ll make a battle plan. I’m thinking of organizing an internal exercise between a few regiments. Also, let the anti-aircraft brigade participate.” Qin Jian said.

”Alright! Whatever the Commander says.” Xu Shanming nodded repeatedly.

”Shall we go down this afternoon to see the results of their training?” Political Commissar Liu Jing suggested.

”I’ll think about it.” Qin Jian wanted to re-evaluate his work completion status before making a decision.

Ning Chenyang arrived at the table holding a full plate of meat dishes and four ounces of rice. On the way, he had heard his father and the others mention there would be a shooting competition, which immediately excited him.

”Dad, are you going down to see the shooting competition? I want to go too!”

”Dad has to check the work situation!”

”Dad, caring about the warriors’ training results is also your job! Go, go!” Ning Chenyang wanted to be there; his childhood dream was to handle a real gun someday.

Now, he finally had the chance to see shooting training. Did this mean he might have the opportunity to handle a real steel gun?

”Old Qin! Your son is really something! With his enthusiasm for military life, he’s bound to excel in the future!” Liu Jing couldn’t help but praise.

”He just wants to see shooting!” Qin Jian knew very well what his son’s thoughts were.

”Go on, go on! If you don’t go, I’ll go with the uncles!” Ning Chenyang said.

Qin Jian thought for a moment: ”Alright, I promise you, I’ll take you this afternoon!”

He wasn’t comfortable letting the kid go with others now, especially since Ning Chenyang’s potential for causing trouble was considerable and potentially highly destructive.
