Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”Move in to take care of him?” Yan Huan was shocked by her mother’s boldness, ”We haven’t even gotten married yet!”

”Isn’t marriage just a piece of paper? Now is the perfect time for you two to bond and build trust. He needs care now, and as his fiancée, isn’t it your duty to look after him? His parents aren’t around, so it’s just right for you to care for him.” Feng Yuzhi had already thought it through for Yan Huan.

”But I can’t stop working, right? Can’t just keep taking days off, right? Mom, do you think this agency is run by us?” Yan Huan was also thinking about how to balance her time, but she just didn’t like her mom’s dictatorial attitude.

”Then how can Qiu Xinyi take such long leave?” Feng Yuzhi said, aggressively poking Yan Huan’s forehead with her finger, ”Use your brain a little, okay? Qiu Xinyi is eyeing your prey. If you relax even a bit with Ji Chuan, I swear she’ll jump right in. Do you believe me?”

”I do.” Yan Huan had seen Qiu Xinyi’s thick-skinned nature, ”But she won’t have a chance later. Qin Jian is already planning to transfer her away. It’s basically confirmed; just waiting for the transfer order, and she has to leave.”

”I don’t care. As your mom, I’ve thought of everything possible for you; the rest is up to you!”

”Yes! I know, my dear mom! Just relax, you see, your hair is going gray.”

”If you’d worry your mom a bit less, wouldn’t she have nothing to do?” Yan Ye chimed in.

”Bro, just mind your own wife and kids. Don’t stir up trouble with me...” Yan Huan glanced disapprovingly at Yan Ye.

”Just look at your attitude.” Feng Yuzhi mused, she used to be gentle like water when she was younger. Even now, her fiery temper was brought out by worrying about Yan Huan over the years.

But how could such a gentle and lovely woman like her have a daughter who is so difficult and always opposing her?

”Aren’t I doing just fine?” Yan Huan felt confident about herself.

”Fine, my foot! Come on, accompany me to the kitchen!” Feng Yuzhi grabbed Yan Huan’s ear.

”Why? Take it easy!” Yan Huan carefully protected her ear as she slowly stood up, ”Ouch ouch ouch!”

”Learn to cook! Are you planning to let Ji Chuan starve?” Feng Yuzhi decided to run a crash cooking course for her unskilled daughter. In the future, when she gets married, not being able to cook wouldn’t do.

”Alright alright, I’ll learn! I’ll learn, okay?” For Ji Chuan’s sake, Yan Huan finally gave in this time.

.........

The hospital room quieted down, Ji Chuan was already feeling very hungry.

Many colleagues came and went to visit him, but they came as departments and brought flowers—not a single person brought him food.

People came and went, the world quieted down, but his stomach started to complain.

He lay alone on the hospital bed and began considering a very practical problem, who would care for him while he stayed here?

Can’t rely on department colleagues to rotate buying meals, can I?

Ah, Yan Huan sneaked away while I wasn’t paying attention; I wonder if she’s thought about my recovery care?

Everything else is manageable, but using the bathroom is truly a challenge.

Ji Chuan was feeling down until he heard the door creak open from outside.
