Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

After examination, the elderly patient shows multiple compound injuries, breathing difficulties, and is in a life-threatening condition. There are injuries to the hip and lumbar muscles, internal bleeding likely, and severe infection at the wound sites.

The doctors present all attested that the surgery would be quite challenging.

”Even if there’s a one percent chance, we must put in one hundred percent effort!” Dr. Lin calmly stated, ”The patient’s condition is very serious now. We need to urgently perform surgery first, and only then can we transport him to the hospital. Any further delay puts his life at risk at any moment.”

”Yes!”

The doctors responded with coordinated emergency action, conducting surgery on the three main injury sites simultaneously, while administering anesthesia, debridement, transfusion, and anti-infection treatment for the patient.

After more than two hours, the external injuries were mostly addressed.

”Director Lin, the wounds in other areas have been dealt with. How is it going over here?” Lei Linxuan came over, observing Dr. Lin seriously checking the bleeding points.

”I’ve completed the sutures. Now I’m doing a final check to see if there’s any other bleeding. Since we’ve already opened him up, let’s explore the abdominal cavity again, just to be safe!” said Director Lin.

”Alright.”

The surgery lasted over three hours. With the effort of many, they finally managed to stabilize the patient’s condition. With the surgery completed, they could now contact an ambulance to rush the patient to the hospital for further treatment.

”Well done, everyone! Since there aren’t any patients inbound right now, our task is to seize this moment and rest quickly!” Dr. Lin, the deputy director, directed everyone.

”Rest, rest! Everyone hurry up and get some rest!”

However, just as everyone sighed with relief and prepared to rest, the doctor who was moving the patient was just about to transfer him. Suddenly, as they slightly shifted him, the patient coughed, and a large amount of fresh blood gushed from his mouth.

”Deputy Director Lin! Something’s wrong! Come and take a look!” Lei Linxuan shouted, causing all the doctors who were just about to sit down to leap back into action.

Seeing the patient bleed so profusely, they felt a chill of panic surging through their hearts.

”Damn, is there some place bleeding?” Deputy Director Lin’s heart skipped a beat, an ominous feeling spreading in his mind.

”Coughing up blood, and it’s fresh blood! Could this be a symptom of stomach bleeding?”

”It might also be a lung issue!”

”Deputy Director Lin, the patient is still bleeding... what do we do?”

”Turn him on his side, make sure the blood doesn’t block his throat to prevent suffocation.” Deputy Director Lin said as he moved forward to inspect.

”Should we perform another exploratory laparotomy?” suggested Lei Linxuan.

”No. The patient is elderly; he can’t endure repeated exploratory surgeries. Moreover, if it’s a stomach bleed, we won’t find it either.” Deputy Director Lin weighed the patient’s actual condition, clearly facing a dilemma.

”What should we do then?” For a moment, everyone was caught in a bind.

”Deputy Director Lin, maybe we should go ahead with the laparotomy...” Lei Linxuan thought it over, worrying that delaying exploration might be problematic if there is indeed bleeding somewhere.

”But have you considered, what if we don’t find anything after opening up?” Deputy Director Lin’s words made everyone fall into contemplation.
