Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Qiu Xinyi put down what she was holding and stood up as well. As the three walked out together, Qiu Xinyi blocked Tan Xiaomei’s path, her face coldly staring at her: ”Tan Xiaomei, show me some respect! Don’t think that just because I’m leaving, I can’t do anything to you when I’m far away! Don’t think that just because you rely on Yan Huan, you can act all smug with success! If I want to deal with you, my power is more than enough.”

Tan Xiaomei looked at Qiu Xinyi’s fierce expression, opened her mouth wanting to retort, but in the end, remembered Qiu Xinyi’s status, only opening her mouth without daring to continue speaking.

”Xiaomei, don’t bother with her! Just let our Qiu Clerk cling on for a few more days! Once we leave Nancheng, who knows when we’ll meet again.” Yan Huan casually tossed out this remark and was the first to walk out the door.

Qiu Xinyi watched Yan Huan’s bold and unruly figure, her hands clenched tightly.

”Yan Huan!” She squeezed out the words through gritted teeth, ”We’ll see!”

Chief Wei heard the report and invited the three female soldiers inside.

Upon seeing Yan Huan, he grinned from ear to ear: ”Clerk Yan, your article is very well-written! This big drill was very successful, and your publicity was extremely effective! The military district chiefs said the writing is majestic and full of ambition, accurately describing the facts while fully embodying the spirit of our new-era soldiers, unafraid of difficulties and willing to endure hardships. The chiefs are very pleased! He particularly praised you, and as your superior, I am proud of you! Of course, Comrade Tan Xiaomei performed exceptionally well too!”

Yan Huan, who was indifferent to fame and fortune, remained calm and natural in the face of honor: ”It is because of Chief Wei’s excellent leadership that I achieved such results! I will continue to work hard!”

”Good!” Chief Wei, delighted by Yan Huan’s compliments, patted the table and said happily, ”I won’t say much more. This time, I will organize the whole department to learn from you. In addition, everyone has worked very hard recently, so I’ve decided to hold a dinner for our department in the small cafeteria tonight.”

”I’m sorry, Chief Wei! I can’t join!” Yan Huan immediately refused upon hearing this, ”I have something urgent tonight.”

”What’s so urgent that you can’t even attend the collective dinner?”

”Personal matter. Personal matter...” Yan Huan’s lips curved, not intending to explain.

”Can’t you postpone your personal matter a bit?” Chief Wei pondered for a moment and said, ”Qiu Clerk received her transfer orders; after all, we’re colleagues, and tonight’s dinner counts as a farewell for Qiu Clerk!”

”This...” Yan Huan was a bit troubled. She had already promised Ji Chuan to show off her skills tonight, and now...

”Why? Clerk Yan has such a big grievance with me? As you said, once I leave, who knows if I’ll ever have the chance to return to Nancheng in this lifetime, and you’re not even giving me the opportunity to say goodbye?” Qiu Xinyi looked at Yan Huan and said.

”Clerk Qiu is right. We are all comrades, part of one big family! In the past, regardless of what happened between you, let’s resolve all grievances with this meal! It’s decided: dinner tonight! Everyone must attend, not a single person can be absent! That’s an order!”

After leaving Chief Wei’s office, Yan Huan stopped in her tracks, looking at Qiu Xinyi, she said: ”Clerk Qiu, do you think saying goodbye to me means anything?”
