Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

When they arrived at the hospital, it was already one or two in the morning, and the wards were all quiet.

It seemed that the patients had already gone to rest.

But Yan Huan was eager to see Ji Chuan, and pushed the door a little too hard.

With a bang, the door was pushed open.

The light from the corridor seeped in, and under this gentle light, Yan Huan clearly saw Ji Chuan lying alone on the hospital bed, his eyes tightly shut.

His head was wrapped in bandages, his leg was in a cast, and the blood-stained white coat was gone, replaced by clean hospital attire.

In the corridor, they had already inquired about Ji Chuan’s condition. The night-duty doctor said he was out of danger, reassuring them.

But without personally confirming, Yan Huan couldn’t rest assured.

He hurried to Ji Chuan’s bedside, crouched down, and gently called out Ji Chuan’s name.

”Ji Chuan, Ji Chuan, I’ve come...”

She called twice in succession, but Ji Chuan kept his eyes closed.

”Huanhuan, stop calling him and let him rest, it’s already so late.” Yan Ye lightly patted her shoulder from behind.

”But I can’t wait, I want Ji Chuan to know I’m here, to know he’s not lying here all alone.” Yan Huan said, her throat tightening, her eyes reddening.

”Alright then.” Yan Ye, seeing her eagerness, simply let her be.

”Ji Chuan, Ji Chuan! Wake up, open your eyes and see who I am?” Yan Huan called out repeatedly near his ear.

Her voice grew louder with each call, but Ji Chuan’s eyes remained closed.

”Brother, what’s wrong with him... why isn’t he waking up? Could his hearing be impaired?” Yan Huan said, lightly shaking Ji Chuan, her movements growing more frantic as big tears fell onto Ji Chuan’s face.

Finally, Ji Chuan’s eyelashes quivered, and he slowly opened his eyes.

”Ji Chuan, you’re awake! You finally woke up, I was calling you for so long and you didn’t answer, you scared me to death!” Yan Huan, seeing him open his eyes at last, threw herself onto his chest and began to cry loudly.

”Yan Huan...” Ji Chuan spoke, his voice dry and hoarse, reaching up to gently rub her head. ”Were you calling me just now? I was too sleepy, couldn’t wake up.”

Indeed, he was too tired, he knew Yan Huan had been calling him all along, but he just couldn’t open his eyes or utter a single word.

It was only when Yan Huan’s hot tears fell onto his cheek that his sleeping body seemed to awaken.

”I know, I know.” Yan Huan raised her head, gazing at Ji Chuan’s noticeably thinner and slightly haggard face, reaching up to stroke it as tears fell one by one.

”Silly! You cry when I don’t open my eyes, and now that I have opened them you still cry? But I really don’t have the strength to comfort you now... these past few days have been exhausting...” Ji Chuan sighed as he spoke.

”I know, I know!” Yan Huan sniffed, wiping the tears from her face. ”As long as I know you’re alright, I’m at ease in my heart.”

”I was so happy to see you rush here immediately.” Ji Chuan slightly raised the corners of his mouth, managing a difficult smile. ”I have a place in your heart.”

”Isn’t that obvious? I’m going to be your wife, how could I not have a place for you in my heart?” Yan Huan retorted.

”Are you both alright?” Yan Ye, who had been standing behind, waited for their emotions to settle before asking.
