Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 282: Chapter 281: Welcoming the College Entrance Examination

The next day finally brought the national college entrance examination!

For An Hao, the arrival of this day filled her with immense joy—taking the college entrance exam was a significant dream of hers since her rebirth.

She was confident that she could achieve a great score in the exam!

Early in the morning, before the sky even brightened, she got out of bed. The examination site was in the town, a two-hour walk away.

Just after she had finished washing up, she heard someone knocking at the door.

An Hao changed into her clothes and opened the door, only to see An Shuchao and An Ping standing outside.

In An Shuchao’s hands was a bowl of noodles, still steaming. On top of the noodles lay two eggs. Seeing An Hao in a daze, he handed the bowl to her, ”Here, go inside and eat up. After eating, focus on the exam and strive to get into the university of your dreams.”

”Big sis, do you see this? It’s a bowl of noodles with two eggs. Dad says this represents a hundred percent and wants you to score a hundred in every subject after eating this!” An Ping explained, ”Hurry up and eat. Dad got up in the middle of the night just to make this bowl of noodles for you. It took him a lot of effort.”

An Hao understood that her father was trying to make up for past shortcomings.

She was willing to give her father that chance, so she smiled, accepted the bowl, and turned around to go inside and start eating the noodles.

The noodles weren’t well made; the dough was poorly kneaded, and they fell apart when picked up with chopsticks. The eggs were runny, and upon poking them, the yolks spilled out into the bowl, but An Hao still found them delicious.

She believed, and held a firm conviction, that as long as she lived her life well, all good things would come to shower their favor upon her!

Sunshine always follows the rain!

After finishing her meal, she packed her things. An Shuchao pulled twenty yuan out of his pocket and handed it to An Hao, ”You won’t be able to come home for lunch, and since dad’s legs aren’t in good shape to deliver food to you, you should find a place to eat near the school. Don’t worry about the cost, eat something nice!”

An Hao, seeing the delightful change in An Shuchao, was very happy, but her eyes reddened with emotion, ”Dad...”

”My girl, I was wrong in the past. Last night, I didn’t sleep a wink and thought a lot. People always say that a stepmother will lead to a stepfather, and I didn’t believe it. But now I finally understand. Today I’m going to find Bai Xue and file for divorce. From now on, dad’s life will be in the hands of you girls!” An Shuchao spoke with a quiver in his voice, on the verge of tears.

His tears were those of regret, thankfully it was not too late!

”Don’t worry, Dad!” An Hao’s voice choked up for a bit before she continued slowly, ”The past is the past, you don’t need to be too hard on yourself. I’ve got to head to the exam now, so I won’t say much more. Dad, An Ping, I’m off!”

”Okay! I wish you smooth success in the exam!” After An Shuchao spoke, he said to An Ping, ”Go on, see your sister off!”

Shen Zhihua had originally wanted to accompany An Hao to the exam, but considering she was already betrothed, he feared causing trouble for her and decided not to wait for her at her house.

He waited at the village entrance, hoping to see her off. Unexpectedly, just after he had parked his car, he saw a military jeep stop at the roadside from afar.

When a person got out of the vehicle, and Shen Zhihua clearly saw who it was, he scoffed at himself softly, then got on his bike and left without hesitation.

An Ping accompanied An Hao to the village entrance, reminding her along the way, ”Big sis, I’ve arranged everything for you yesterday. Old Chen knew that the students from our village were having college entrance exams and specially prepared a bull cart to wait at the village entrance. Get there early, and you’ll definitely find a spot.”

”I know, you told me yesterday. An Ping, thank you!” An Hao was deeply relieved by her brother’s transformation.

”What’s there to thank!” An Ping chuckled with a ’heh heh’, ”If you really want to thank me, maybe you could get my future brother-in-law to give me some more...”

Before he could finish, An Ping stopped in his tracks, suddenly excited as if Columbus had discovered a new world.
