Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 279: Chapter 278: I Will Give You an Explanation

July’s scorching sun, like fire, and on the day before the college entrance examination, An Hao had stopped reviewing her lessons.

The house had been calm and quiet these days, devoid of messy distractions, allowing her ample time to organize her review material.

Until today, she had methodically finished revising all the content, all that was left was to give it her all in the examination hall tomorrow!

She was brimming with confidence for the exam!

The Medical University she had long hoped for and yearned for was waving to her just before her eyes.

Ever since the day her mother passed away, she had secretly resolved to become a doctor in her heart. But the idea of becoming a doctor came to her only after she met Qin Jian.

In both her past life and this one, he was an independent and dazzling presence.

Since she was fortunate enough to be reborn, she intended to cherish this chance dearly. She wanted to stand shoulder to shoulder next to him, to be the Mu Mian tree, not a soft vine clinging to him.

Early in the morning, An Hao decided to make a trip to the supply and marketing co-op to buy a few more pens and scratch paper, just in case anything unexpected happened tomorrow.

As soon as she stepped out of the door, she encountered An Shuchao, who had been confined to bed for four months. He had visited the hospital a few days earlier, and the doctor said his recovery was going well. He hadn’t had the steel nails removed but had the plaster cast taken off.

Though he was better, he still walked with a slight limp and would probably need some time to fully recover.

Seeing An Shuchao’s unexpected appearance, An Hao was somewhat surprised, ”Dad, what brings you here today?”

Ever since the engagement was set, An Shuchao had not come to see her for a month. An Hao knew it was partly due to embarrassment and partly to allow her to concentrate on her revision.

He would send An Ping over every few days to bring her something.

Due to past events, there was a barrier between An Hao and her father, so she felt no urge to visit the other courtyard.

An Ping had mentioned that after the last ’spirit medium’ incident, he had sent Bai Xue back to her parents’ home.

Being sent away was one thing; it wasn’t a divorce after all.

Being sent away meant she could come back, and this made An Hao feel uncomfortable.

She didn’t want her father to be entangled with Bai Xue anymore. She wasn’t against him remarrying, but she was against someone like Bai Xue. Having such a woman in the family was an unfortunate matter.

Observing the unexpected look on his daughter’s face, An Shuchao felt a bittersweet sensation, ”Aren’t you taking the college entrance exam tomorrow? I came to see if you needed anything...”

”Dad, I don’t need anything. You should go back and rest, your leg must be inconvenient,” An Hao said to her father, her tone polite but distant.

It was not like a conversation between father and daughter, but more like one between strangers.

”An Hao, ever since your stepmother left, I’ve been reflecting on myself. I might have not paid enough attention to you. That’s why...” An Shuchao tried to explain to An Hao, but found himself at a loss for words when he attempted to articulate his thoughts.

”That’s all secondary. The most important thing is that you were blinded by Bai Xue, and you didn’t trust your own daughter. What’s so good about her that makes her worth your lingering attachment, compared to my mom?” An Hao challenged him.

”It’s all my fault. I thought too simply. I thought that if I worked hard to balance the two of you, it would quell the disputes and help this family continue intact...”

”Dad!” An Hao suddenly raised her voice, ”You’re wrong! From the moment that woman clawed her way into your bed by any means necessary, you should have seen her true colors! I’ve had enough. If Bai Xue stays another day, I will never return to that house.”

An Shuchao fell silent for a while before saying, ”I will give you an explanation for this matter. But let’s set her aside for now, I would like to accompany you to buy the things you need for tomorrow’s exam.”

An Hao nodded, ”Okay. Dad, I’ll remember what you said. Let’s go, let’s buy the supplies.”
