Building a Technological Power Starting with the Type 59 missile and Going Astray in Technological Development

Chapter 49: 617 Mechanical Arsenal: Damn, I’m being targeted?Chapter 49: 617 Mechanical Arsenal: Damn, I’m being targeted?

A group of senior executives from the 077 Mechanical Military Factory followed Lin Chenran and came to the front of the test site for the special steel plate.

As soon as they approached, they felt a wave of hot air rushing towards them, making their skin feel a little burning.

Despite this, their faces were still filled with excitement and anticipation.

Because they knew that this heat wave was caused by the explosion of special steel colliding with the armor-piercing shells of the Type 59 tank, and this meant that their research and development results were about to be verified.

According to the current test results, this special steel has been successful!
Its appearance will bring a huge breakthrough to the 077 Mechanical Arsenal, giving it a pair of ”wings” to take off.

”Mr. Song, you see, the armor-piercing shells of the Type 59 tank seem to be a little weak.”

Lin Chenran raised the corner of his mouth slightly, with a hint of smile, and said, pointing at the steel needle stuck on the special steel plate.

Everyone followed his gaze and saw that the steel needle was deeply embedded in the special steel plate and could not penetrate it.

As an old tank, the Type 59 tank’s main weapon, a 100mm smoothbore gun, is indeed slightly lacking in power in modern warfare.

If we can replace them with more advanced tanks, such as the T-72 of the Russian Bear or the M1 tank of the American Eagle, perhaps we can better test the true performance of special steels.

In the future, the second-generation main battle tanks made of special steel will compete fiercely with the main battle tanks of these two countries.

Song Xiyun smiled bitterly upon hearing this: ”Director, although I agree with your idea, we don’t have the T72 tanks of the bears or the M1 tanks of the eagle sauce!”

Because the main weapon of these two tanks, the 125mm smoothbore gun, can be said to be the most powerful in the world. If they are used to test the special steel produced by themselves, the data obtained will be the most real and reliable.

However, although Song Xiyun understood this clearly, he had no such equipment at his disposal.

At this moment, Lin Chenran suddenly remembered something. He lowered his voice and said to Song Xiyun, ”Mr. Song, I remember that our country once imported a T72 tank from another country a few years ago. It seems that it was sent to the 617 Mechanical Military Factory.”

Hearing this, Song Xiyun was shocked and asked quickly: ”Do you want to use that T72 tank to test the special steel in our factory?”

Lin Chenran nodded, indicating that he did have this idea.

But Song Xiyun frowned and said worriedly: ”I think the 617 Mechanical Military Factory will not agree to do this. And there is another problem. This T72 tank has been introduced several years ago. It is still unknown whether it can be started normally.”

According to common sense, the 617 Mechanical Military Factory should have dismantled the T72 tank long ago and conducted in-depth research and analysis.

Therefore, it is not easy to find a T72 tank that can operate normally.

”You can give it a try. Then we can contact Mr. Zhu. I don’t think he will reject our proposal.”

”After all, the birth of this special steel will enable our country’s military industry to take off.”

Lin Chenran thought it was worth a try.

Senior military official: I have no objection!

What worries Lin Chenran and others the most now is: Can this imported T72 tank be installed back?
Capable of firing armor-piercing bullets?

……

A group of senior executives of the 077 Mechanical Military Factory returned to the factory from the testing site with satisfaction and quickly devoted themselves to even busier work.

At the same time, Lin Chenran and Song Xiyun also returned to the office together.

As soon as he entered the office, Lin Chenran couldn’t wait to pick up the phone on the desk. He wanted to contact the Yan Country military and inform them that his own special steel had been successfully developed.

So, in front of Song Xiyun, Lin Chenran called Mr. Wei, the head of the military equipment department, without hesitation.

”Beep beep...”

The phone continued to ring, but no one answered.

After a long while, a voice finally came from the other end of the phone:
”Hello? Who is it?”

The person who answered the phone was Mr. Wei, the head of the military equipment department, and his voice sounded confident.

After hearing Elder Wei’s response, Lin Chenran quickly said:
”Hello, Mr. Wei, I am Lin Chenran. Is it convenient for you to answer the phone now?” Mr. Wei replied:

”Oh, it’s Lin! Tell me what you want to say.”

“I have a very important meeting to chair later.

”You only have three minutes.”

Lin Chenran reported immediately after hearing this: ”Mr. Wei, our 077 Mechanical Military Factory has successfully developed the special steel!”

”And we just put it to a test.”

He deliberately did not tell Mr. Wei the test results, but playfully whetted his appetite.

”Tell me quickly, what kind of test did you do? What are the results of the test?”

Mr. Wei asked anxiously, his voice full of anticipation.

Lin Chenran raised the corners of his mouth slightly, and then replied with a smile:
”We will have the Type 59 tanks fire armor-piercing shells at a distance of meters... meters... meters!”

After saying this, Lin Chenran stopped talking and waited quietly for Mr. Wei’s reaction.

Mr. Wei on the other end of the phone frowned, and anger surged in his heart.

He felt that Lin Chenran was such a naughty boy that he dared to tease him like this.

He took a deep breath, resisted the urge to curse, and said sternly:
”Lin boy, don’t let me scold you when I’m happy!”

”Understand?”

Song Xiyun, who was standing by, saw this scene and couldn’t help but cover his mouth with his hands, fearing that he would laugh out loud.

Although he tried his best to conceal and restrain himself, his expression of unable to help laughing still showed from time to time.

He thought to himself: I am a professional. I won’t laugh unless I really can’t help it.

There’s no way, it’s just too much fun!

”No, no, no! Mr. Wei, I was wrong!”

Upon hearing this, Lin Chenran immediately admitted his mistake.

”Say it!”

”What was the result of the experiment?”

Although he was teased by Lin Chenran, he was more concerned about the performance of the special steel produced by the 077 Mechanical Military Factory.

”Mr. Wei! Please sit tight!”

Then Lin Chenran slowly said: ”The Type 59 tank fired an armor-piercing shell at meters... meters... meters.”

”As a result, only the armor-piercing bullet at a distance of 80 meters could ’get stuck’ on the mm steel plate, but did not penetrate it!”

”At other distances, the armor-piercing bullets only exploded and did not cause any damage to the 80mm steel plate.”

Lin Chenran was very proud to announce the good news to Mr. Wei.

”Really?”

”Lin boy, you didn’t lie to me?”

Although Mr. Wei believed Lin Chenran’s casual words, the matter was very serious, so he needed to ask clearly.

“More real than pearls!!!”
