Building a Technological Power Starting with the Type 59 missile and Going Astray in Technological Development

Chapter 11 Bidding for the Yan State Military's New TankChapter 11 Bidding for the Yan State Military’s New Tank

After the 077 Machinery Military Factory successfully delivered a batch of Type 59 civilian engineering vehicles to the Linjiang Provincial Government, the major construction sites that had been stagnant immediately became bustling with workers beginning to busily engage in construction.

This Type 077 civilian engineering vehicle produced by the 59 Mechanical Military Factory is truly outstanding.

The efficiency of a Type 59 civilian engineering vehicle is equivalent to that of two or even more imported civilian engineering vehicles.

Faced with various extremely harsh environments, the Type 59 civilian engineering vehicle has demonstrated strong adaptability.

When other civilian engineering vehicles imported from abroad ”went on strike”, it was still able to run stably and work normally.

Gradually, the reputation of the Type 59 civilian engineering vehicle began to spread in the construction industry of Linjiang Province.

More and more construction companies have shown great interest in it and have placed orders with the 077 Machinery Arsenal.

The Type 59 civilian engineering vehicle is highly praised for its affordable price, excellent durability and strong environmental adaptability.

In addition, it also has efficient working performance and high-quality after-sales maintenance services.

With the support of a number of advantages, bosses in major construction industries have followed the official practice of Linjiang Province and purchased large quantities of such construction vehicles.

The continuous influx of orders made the top executives of the 077 Mechanical Military Factory smile with joy.

This Type 59 civilian engineering vehicle is like a magic key, successfully opening the door to the revival of the 077 Machinery Military Factory.

Taking advantage of this hot sales, the 077 Machinery Military Factory, which was originally facing difficulties, quickly turned losses into profits and regained vitality.

The 077 Mechanical Arsenal has completely gotten rid of the shadow of bankruptcy.

Not only the 077 Mechanical Military Factory made huge profits.

Even the top military officials of Yan State were delighted.

They also didn’t expect that the sales of Type 59 civilian engineering vehicles would be so hot.

With a steady stream of funds, the Yan State military began to become active.

I want to update and iterate the tank I have.

Now, a high-level meeting has been held and the debate is ongoing.

Some senior officials believe that although there is a ”cash cow” called the Type 59 civilian engineering vehicle, the funds available are limited and they should only do as much as they can with the funds they have.

First, we will prepare some Type 69 tanks to fill the vacancy left by the scrapped Type 59 tanks.

But some senior executives have different ideas.

They believe that the Type 69 tank is already lagging behind other countries’ main battle tanks.

And I don’t know how many generations behind.

Whether in terms of weapons and equipment, power components, or armor thickness.

A number of senior military officials believed that since the Type 69 tank was already outdated, it was fine to equip a small number of them. However, if they were deployed on a large scale, they would become the ”back door” of the Type 59 tank.

By then, there might not be such a good thing as the 077 Mechanical Military Factory being able to transform the Type 69 tank into a civilian engineering vehicle.

So what should the military do with the Type 69 tanks in its hands?
Therefore, the senior military officials felt that it was necessary to redesign and develop a new main battle tank.

The performance has at least reached the international first-class level.

After heated discussions, the Yan State military finally decided to only equip a portion of the Type 69 tanks to replace the retired and scrapped Type 59 tanks.

Then a tank bidding meeting was held.

……

Is the Yan State military going to hold a new tank bidding conference?

The Yan State military urgently needs a main battle tank with excellent performance to enhance the country’s military strength.

Now, they have innovated and held a brand new tank bidding meeting.

The 077 Mechanical Military Factory was also honored to receive a cordial invitation from the Yan Country’s military.

When Lin Chenran received the notice from his superiors, he was very surprised at first. He never expected that the Yan country military would catch up with the trend and keep up with the times, and even create a new initiative like ”bidding activities”.

Although it is already very common abroad.

But this is the first of its kind in China.

In the past, the Yan State military’s usual practice was to assign tasks directly to specific mechanical military factories, entrusting them with the responsibility of designing and developing certain weapons and equipment.

However, there has been a change now, and an unconventional ”bidding activity” has been launched.

Lin Chenran developed a strong interest in the main battle tanks of the Yan State military.

If the 077 Mechanical Military Factory can win the bid, it will open up a new source of income.

Then, Lin Chenran raised his head and whispered to the assistant sitting beside him: ”Go and tell Mr. Song to come to my office. I have something to discuss with him.”

Not long after, there was a slight knock on the door.

”Knock knock knock!”

After hearing the knock on the door, Lin Chenran, who was working, raised his head slightly, stopped what he was doing, and responded in a gentle tone: ”Come in!”

As soon as he finished speaking, the door was gently pushed open, and Song Xiyun strode in with vigorous steps.

His temperament is calm and introverted, giving people a sense of trustworthiness.

Seeing this, Lin Chenran quickly stood up from his seat and walked forward with a smile: ”Mr. Song, I’m so sorry, I’ve been too busy recently, otherwise I would have gone to your production workshop to find you in person.”

After hearing these words, Song Xiyun unconsciously revealed a smile of relief on his face.

He nodded to show his understanding, and also expressed his appreciation for Lin Chenran’s humble attitude.

Lin Chenran did not become complacent because he successfully designed and developed the popular Type 59 civilian engineering vehicle.

He picked up the teapot, tilted the pot gently, let the boiling hot tea slowly pour into the teacup, and then handed it over with both hands.

Song Xiyun took the teacup and took a sip of the hot tea.

The warm liquid slid down my throat, bringing a comfortable feeling.

Then Song Xiyun put down the cup, looked at Lin Chenran with a smile, and asked, ”Is there something important that made you want to ask me to come here so urgently?”

Lin Chenran did not answer immediately, but silently picked up a document from his desk.

Then he handed it to Song Xiyun who was standing beside him.

The other party still looked confused and puzzled.

After seeing the contents of the document, Song Xiyun smiled slightly.

”The superiors want a new main battle tank. The Type 69 tank is outdated and cannot adapt to the ever-changing form of warfare.”

Lin Chenran said calmly.

The Type 69 medium tank is a medium tank developed based on the Type 59 medium tank.

Its main weapon is still a 100mm smoothbore gun, and its firepower is exactly the same as that of the Type 59 tank.

It just improves mobility and night combat capability.

Therefore, some high-ranking military officials of the Yan State look down upon the Type 69 tank.

Just recently, the Yan State military held a ”unique” bidding meeting for a new type of main battle tank.

”Does our 077 Mechanical Military Factory also want to bid?”

After Song Xiyun carefully read the document, he asked calmly.

”Mr. Song, what do you think?”

There is also a Type 79 tank, which was successfully designed and developed in 1981 and used by hunting troops. I may postpone its design and development to 1984, all for the sake of this book!
