Chapter 490: 473 Evil WitchChapter 490: Chapter 473 Evil Witch

The witch flipped the mirror over and over in her hands, “The magic circuit for answering questions has been modified, huh? There is even a control magic mark, turning it into a child mirror that pairs with a Mother Mirror. Who did this? They are simply a genius!”

“What does that mean?” Mu Ying didn’t quite understand.

“This mirror has become a child mirror that’s being controlled. The person with the Mother Mirror can monitor the usage of this child mirror and can even control its responses. The so-called prophetic ability you mentioned might stem from this—the prophecies aren’t made by this mirror, but by the person holding the Mother Mirror,” the witch explained.

Mu Ying now understood; the Golden Mirror, held as a treasure by the Rose Kingdom, was just a child mirror being controlled by someone else. Its prophecies could just be part of someone else’s conspiracy.

The situation grew increasingly enigmatic.

Although she didn’t know the specifics of the prophecies, surely they were unfavorable to Shirley—if not, the King wouldn’t want to kill his own daughter.

Who would go through such great lengths, using the Golden Mirror and prophecies in such an indirect way to kill Shirley, a Princess?

Did she hold some significant importance?

“Can you locate the Mother Mirror based on this child mirror?” Mu Ying asked, sensing that there might be a conspiracy behind this matter.

One mystery wrapped around another; this final fragment was truly difficult to collect.

The witch shook her head: “No, it’s possible to find a child mirror from the Mother Mirror, but not the other way around.”

The matter hit another dead end.

Mu Ying sighed. It seemed that finding the Mother Mirror wouldn’t be easy.

In the end, all she found out was that the witch had sold this Golden Mirror to the young former queen.

At that time, the former queen was still a princess of the Green Wall Kingdom, and the mirror had later been part of her dowry when she married into the Rose Kingdom.

Judging by the timeline, the Golden Mirror must have been tampered with before the former queen’s marriage.

Who specifically had done it was unknown, but the person was definitely a witch; with a try-your-luck attitude, Mu Ying issued a reward in the Witch Association.

However, this target was too minor, and she wasn’t sure if she would find the person; she would still have to rely on gathering more information herself.

Even though she didn’t yet know the full story, she was now able to discern what roles each person likely played in this tale. Not fearing making inappropriate interventions anymore, she could try to approach the persons involved to ask about the specifics.

The Royal Palace was in chaos these past few days, as the Rose Kingdom sought the thief who had stolen the mirror.

Wanting to ask questions peacefully, and even getting the King and Queen to believe the information she was ready to disclose seemed somewhat difficult.

But that wasn’t too much trouble for her; she decided she might as well play the part of an Evil Witch this time!

She donned herself in a pitch-black cloak and drank a Disguise Potion, transforming into an eagle-nosed, wrinkled-face witch, the spitting image of a nefarious villain.

She then chose a night when the King and Queen were asleep together, and during their slumber, she barged into their bedroom.

With a tap of her large staff on the ground, thorny vines bound the couple to the bed.

Although it looked frightening, it was harmless as the sheets prevented any injuries.

Suddenly, the king and queen were jolted awake and were terrified.

“Who are you? How did you get in? What do you want?” the king’s voice trembled with fear, “Cummings!”

“Stop shouting. You could scream your throat raw, and no one would come to save you!” Mu Ying snarled viciously.

In fact, she had cast Soundproof Magic in the room.

“What do you want? I can give you anything, even gold and silver treasures. Just don’t hurt me!” pleaded the king, frozen with fear as the thorns poked at his throat, ready to pierce him through with a mere twitch.

“You charlatan, what’s this about a Golden Mirror of Prophecy? It’s just a controlled child mirror! Pretending to be the prophetic kind, you made me come all this way for nothing! Did you hide the real Golden Mirror of Prophecy?” Mu Ying slammed her staff down with a threatening force.

“What? You’re the one who stole the Golden Mirror?” The king was almost struck dumb with anger. Such an unreasonable witch, stealing his property and then complaining that it wasn’t good enough!

“I want the Golden Mirror of Prophecy, not this incomprehensible child mirror!” Mu Ying said, throwing a piece of mirror out and smashing it heavily on the ground.

“What child mirror? This is the Golden Mirror, the one that can prophesize!” the king said, utterly puzzled.

“Don’t think I can’t tell quality. This is just a broken set of Mother and Child Mirrors. This one is just the child, controlled by the Mother. Ask it a question, and the Mother can modify the answer. Are you kidding me?” Mu Ying tightened the thorny vine binding them even more.

“What?” The king was so shocked by this revelation that he forgot to worry about his predicament, “The Golden Mirror can’t prophesize? And its words are controlled by the Mother Mirror?”

“Why else would I come to you!” Mu Ying retorted.

“Impossible... I’ve got it, this must be the Green Wall Kingdom’s conspiracy!” the king raged, his eyes bulging, “I’ve been deceived for so long, and even ordered the execution of my own daughter!”

See, without much effort from her, the king had taken her words to heart!

Indeed, sometimes the enemy’s words are more convincing.

“What conspiracy of the Green Wall Kingdom? Explain clearly, or you won’t live to see tomorrow’s sun!” Mu Ying was rather enjoying playing the villain.

Indeed, sometimes it’s easier to play the bad guy than the good one.

“The Golden Mirror was brought to me by my late wife. She was formerly a princess of the Green Wall Kingdom, and she told me that this mirror understood all things and could make prophecies when the time was right. Its first prophecy was the location of a Gold Mine within the borders of the Rose Kingdom. Since it turned out to be true, I trusted the Golden Mirror unreservedly after it helped me defeat other contenders and ascend to the throne! If all this were a sham, then it must be a long-standing conspiracy by the Green Wall Kingdom targeting the Rose Kingdom, coveting our Kingdom’s rich mineral resources!”

The king quickly figured out the crux of the matter, nearly fuming with rage.

Mu Ying nodded. What he said made sense, and her mission progress had indeed increased a bit, which meant this was the truth. Not bad for a king; he certainly had brains!

“So you’re saying there’s no such thing as the Golden Mirror of Prophecy?”

“If there is, it’s in the Green Wall Kingdom. How could those ambitious folks possibly give away such a powerful object as dowry to our Rose Kingdom!” the king thought slyly, hoping to draw this powerful witch toward the Green Wall Kingdom.

Mu Ying: “...”

That maneuver could likely be heard by everyone outside the range of her Soundproof Magic.

“It’s all because you were foolish, boasting about the Golden Mirror of Prophecy. I can’t just leave empty-handed... I have to take something with me...”
