I Live on the Land in Global Games

Chapter 480: 463: MissChapter 480: Chapter 463: Miss

“The true ending is that although Miss and the Prince overcame countless hardships to be together, and the prince’s eyesight was restored, they never escaped the witch’s curse. The prince was forgotten by his own country and lost his wealth. It was not long before Miss fell ill and died. The prince then lost his love, and was left alone to raise his child, while his health declined even further, on the brink of death. Are you satisfied now?”

Vier’s tone wasn’t very good; he still thought that the false but happy ending was more beautiful.

Mu Ying had also realized that when Xiao Lesi’s father told this story, he empathized too much—almost as if he was not talking about someone else’s story but his own.

After careful thought, isn’t Xiao Lesi’s father’s current situation just like the real ending of the story? Coupling this with his hair color and apparent well-educated manner of speaking, a conclusion was emerging: He was that prince, wasn’t he?

No wonder he had such a poor view of witches. In his eyes, it was the witch who ruined their love, causing their misfortune.

Yet, despite him telling the true ending, the task progress only went up by 10%.

Perhaps because he told the whole story from his perspective, he believes that is the complete truth. Obviously, however, it is not—not entirely, at least.

To understand the real circumstances of this story, it would be necessary to visit Xiao Lesi’s mother’s hometown and find that witch.

But she also disliked it when people blamed their misfortunes on a witch’s curse, as if every witch was prone to curse, when in fact, witches with the Talent to perform Curse Magic are very rare, and even if they can perform it, they would rather not curse someone unless absolutely necessary.

After all, why use strenuous and thankless Curse Magic when violence can suffice? Most formidable Curse Magic carries a substantial risk of backlash against the spellcaster herself.

Only in situations of deep hatred, where personal strength is insufficient for revenge, would one risk using Curse Magic.

In the history of witches capable of Curse Magic, those who used Curse Magic for revenge usually did not live to die a natural death; harming the enemy a thousand, costing themselves eight hundred.

“I am a witch proficient in curses, but as far as I can see, there are no curses on you. Don’t blame all your misfortunes on witches. In fact, very few witches are actually capable of cursing.”

After saying all this, Mu Ying walked away.

This person, despite being a protagonist, had too many prejudices. Asking him was worse than finding out on her own. The story itself had revealed a lot of information. Using that as a lead, having a direction and purpose for the investigation was not a difficult endeavor.

She went first to find the Village Chief after she left.

Xiao Lesi and his family had lived here for so long; perhaps they knew something about Xiao Lesi’s mother’s background and origins.

Passing by the tree that was still being used for whipping and punishment, with a person hanging, covered in scars, and weeping bitterly. Seeing her approach, they frantically shook their bodies, pleading for mercy.

But Mu Ying just glanced at them and walked past without any intention of letting them off.

They might look miserable now, but those they had once schemed against to rob and kill were even worse off.

When she reached the Village Chief, she opened the conversation with money, inquiring about Xiao Lesi’s parents.

The villagers, unaware of her involvement in the punishing act, were still not very afraid of her.

The Village Chief, having taken the money, was very forthcoming.

“Le Xi’s family were all outsiders; his father was named Vier, and his mother was Aisha.

When Aisha first arrived in the village alone, already pregnant, the villagers let her stay in a deserted cabin up on the hill.

She fixed up the house, gave birth to a child, and lived a hard life, but at least she settled down.

About two years later, Le Xi’s father arrived. At that time, he was blind, like a beggar, but Aisha still recognized him. They embraced each other in tears, and suddenly Le Xi’s father’s eyesight was restored.

Le Xi’s father claimed he was from the Royal Capital of the Green Wall Kingdom. He indeed had some valuable trinkets and spoke differently from the country folk, but whenever asked why he did not return, he never answered.

As for Le Xi’s mother, Aisha, no one knew where she came from. Their village was quite secluded, with the nearest village or town several hundred miles away, but when she appeared, she came alone, yet her dress was still very clean, showing no signs of a long journey.

Many people asked her where she came from, but she said she had forgotten the name of her hometown and could never return.

Later when Vier arrived, he also didn’t know where Aisha’s hometown was. Perhaps there was some unspeakable secret, and he didn’t want to talk about it!

That’s all I know.”

Mu Ying nodded. She didn’t feel that Vier was unwilling to talk, but more likely that he truly did not know.

If you want to prevent someone from finding their way back, the best way is to make them forget the name of their hometown and then abandon them in a strange place.

If what Aisha said was true, then the witch who raised Aisha probably really did not want her to return, so she blurred her memory in this regard.

Similarly, Vier must not have been overlooked; he probably was forced to forget the information about that place as well.

This was troublesome. If the person involved did not know the name of the place, then they were even less likely to tell others, making it difficult to find clues from human sources.

Mu Ying returned to her carriage and took out a pile of Dingling flowers, contacting every witch she knew to inquire for information.

Witches are night owls, and although it was already night, it was still early for them.

Every witch Mu Ying met on her journey received a Double Petal Flower from her as a contact method.

Although they did not contact each other often, their friendship remained undiminished.

Thanks to this habit, it was very convenient for her to gather information now.

Especially the witches who had lived for over a hundred years, who were experienced, sociable, and knew much more than Mu Ying.

For instance, Debra, after hearing the story of Vier and Miss, said, “These humans really know how to make excuses for themselves, blaming everything on us witches. Have you heard of Magic Miss Cuisine? The reaction of that pregnant human sounds just like Magic Miss Cuisine, but then her daughter was still able to have children, and even without consuming Miss Cuisine, she lived nearly three more years, which seems a bit different from the previous effect of Magic Miss Cuisine.”

“Magic Miss Cuisine?” Mu Ying listened, feeling it sounded somewhat familiar, as if she had seen it somewhere.

Although Debra mentioned differences from the Magic Miss Cuisine effect, Mu Ying’s mission progress increased by 5%, leaving no doubt that her speculation was probably correct.
