Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

After leaving the office, Zhao Rong and his assistant stepped into an elevator.

Inside, Zhao Rong voiced his suspicions. ”Assistant, don’t you think there’s something strange about President Wang Guihua?”

Standing by the doors, the assistant watched the floor indicator lights flicker one after another. ”I think the president isn’t just strange; he’s unreasonable. If we listened to him and put on wigs, heavy makeup, women’s clothes, and high heels—turning ourselves, actual men, into women—wouldn’t that be agonizing? If we went through with that, forget about studying at a women’s university. Just living a normal life would be difficult.”

Zhao Rong nodded in agreement. ”Being forced to dress up as a woman when you’re a man... The very thought is excruciating.”

He then grew pensive. ”Assistant, when we went to President Wang Guihua’s office, it was already past midnight, yet we saw students in there discussing scholarships. Don’t you find that a little odd?”

The assistant, equally perplexed, scratched the back of his head. ”I do. Even if students needed to ask the president about scholarships, they should do it during the day. But those two went after midnight, and the most bizarre part is that the president was actually in his office to meet with them.”

Zhao Rong shook his head, unable to make sense of it. ”It’s a big, strange world out there. This women’s university must be hiding some huge secret. Otherwise, it wouldn’t feel so eerie and peculiar.”

The assistant squinted, clenching his teeth. ”I hope we can expose this university’s secret and reveal it to the public before we have to leave.” After a moment, he looked at Zhao Rong fearfully. ”Zhao Rong, do you think we’ll end up like the other men who came here before us? Disappearing without a trace within three days?”

Zhao Rong patted his chest reassuringly. ”Don’t be afraid, Assistant. As long as I’m here, just let that Rainy Night Killer bring it on.”

But before Zhao Rong could finish his sentence, the elevator shuddered to a halt. The violent jolt trapped them inside, and both men immediately broke out in a cold sweat.

His heart pounding, Zhao Rong said, ”My God, if this elevator crashed and we died, that’d be a pretty anticlimactic end for us.”

Staring at the motionless elevator, the assistant asked worriedly, ”Zhao Rong, do you think the Rainy Night Killer has already targeted us?”

Zhao Rong shook his head while looking for signs of a malfunction. ”So soon? We only arrived this afternoon. It hasn’t even been a full day, and we’re already being targeted?”

The assistant looked around the malfunctioning car fretfully. ”But why would the elevator we were in just suddenly break down?”

While activating his Magic Ring, Zhao Rong said, ”What’s to fear from a broken elevator? We’ll just get it fixed, that’s all.”

Hearing that Zhao Rong intended to fix it, the assistant was incredulous. ”Zhao Rong, I know you’re incredible, but fixing an elevator isn’t a job for just anyone. Are you secretly a repair technician?”

Zhao Rong chuckled and pulled a cluster of nanobots from the Magic Ring. ”I’ve never had any professional training. How could I possibly know how to fix an elevator?”

He held the shimmering mass out for his assistant to see. ”But with these nanobots, there’s no elevator that can’t be fixed.”

With that, Zhao Rong dropped the nanobots into a seam in the elevator wall.

The assistant stared in amazement. ”Zhao Rong, where did you get these nanobots?”

Zhao Rong pointed a thumb upward. ”Where else? From the Paradise Shopping Cart, of course.”

The assistant found this amusing. ”Zhao Rong, you have too much free time. Why are you always preparing for a rainy day? If you hadn’t bought these nanobots ahead of time, we’d probably be trapped in here for good.”

Zhao Rong recalled the moment he bought them. ”It was a pitch-black night, with a storm raging outside. I was lying in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep. So, I started wondering if there was something that could help me finally drift off...”

”I was asking why you bought nanobots,” the assistant interrupted, completely baffled. ”Why are you telling me you couldn’t sleep? Buying nanobots and having insomnia don’t seem related at all.”

Zhao Rong simply sat down on the floor, leaning his head against the wall. ”Just be patient, Assistant. Let me finish the story, and you’ll understand the intricate connection between my sleeplessness and buying nanobots.”

The assistant folded his arms, ready to listen. ”Fine. We’re trapped in here anyway. We’ve got nothing but time, so go on, tell me your story.”

Zhao Rong continued, ”So, as I was tossing and turning, I pulled out my phone. Suddenly, I saw a video of a very attractive woman. When I saw her, I felt the urge to rush to the bathroom to take care of a... situation.”

What is Zhao Rong even talking about? This is all over the place.

”However,” Zhao Rong went on, ”when I found the video and grabbed some tissues, ready to head into the bathroom, I discovered the door wouldn’t open. I tried everything, using all my might, but the bathroom door was stuck shut.

”My first thought was to call a locksmith, but when I looked at the time, it was 3:30 AM. What locksmith would be kind enough to come out at that hour? So, I opened the Paradise Shopping Cart to look for some lock-picking tools. The funny thing is, after searching for a long time, I couldn’t find any lock-picking tools. Instead, I found a shop that sold nanobots.”

Hearing this, the assistant finally understood. He burst out laughing. ”Zhao Rong, I get it now! You wanted to go to the bathroom to... take care of business, but you couldn’t get the door open. You tried to find a locksmith but couldn’t. So, you bought nanobots online to open the door for you. Then you successfully got into the bathroom, did your thing, came out, and finally got to sleep. Am I right?”

Seeing his assistant had finished the story for him, Zhao Rong gave him a big thumbs-up. ”Assistant, what can I say? You’re absolutely incredible for figuring out the rest of my story. If I’d known you were this sharp, I would’ve only told you the first half.”

The assistant smiled shyly. ”Well, you did only tell me about half. The rest I just guessed.”

Zhao Rong disagreed. ”Who said I told you half? I clearly told you two-thirds of it. You only guessed the last one-third.”

After hearing the story, the assistant began to doubt the nanobots’ ability to fix the elevator. He glanced at the inert machine and asked, ”But, Zhao Rong, the nanobots you bought from the Paradise Shopping Cart were for fixing door locks, not elevators. Aren’t you overestimating their capabilities a bit?”

Zhao Rong pulled out his phone and showed the assistant the item description. ”You’re really underestimating these nanobots, Assistant. Let me tell you, they can do more than just pick and replace locks. They can fix elevators, TVs, refrigerators, washing machines… they can even fix DVDs, VCDs, cell phones, hair dryers, and toilets.”

When the assistant heard just how many things the nanobots could repair, he was completely in awe. ”My gosh, these nanobots are practically omnipotent! If they became common in Xijing City, a lot of repairmen would be out of a job.”

Just as they were speaking, the elevator’s lights flickered back on. It immediately restarted and descended smoothly to the first floor.

Seeing that the nanobots had actually fixed the elevator, the assistant said excitedly, ”Zhao Rong, you’re amazing! If you hadn’t been trapped in here with me, I bet this elevator would have never gotten fixed.”

Zhao Rong held out his right hand near the seam in the wall. ”Don’t thank me. If you want to thank someone, thank these nanobots.”

As he spoke, the nanobots swarmed out from the crack and flowed into his open palm, one after another.

Looking at the dense, shimmering mass in Zhao Rong’s hand, the assistant asked, ”Zhao Rong, just how many nanobots did you buy from the Paradise Shopping Cart? From here, it looks like you’re holding a handful of sand.”

Zhao Rong explained, ”Because the nanobots are so tiny, the seller had a special note: they don’t sell quantities under ten billion.”

Hearing that the minimum purchase was ten billion, the assistant was stunned. He stared at Zhao Rong in disbelief. ”Zhao Rong… so you’re holding at least ten billion of them in your hand?”

As Zhao Rong returned the nanobots to his Magic Ring, he replied, ”Ten billion? I have tens of billions.”

Just as they were talking, the elevator doors slid open. A man in a raincoat and a mask, completely drenched in water, stepped inside.
