Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Upon hearing that the principal was hiding a secret he’d kept for over a decade, Zhao Rong asked curiously, ”Principal, a secret that’s bottled up for too long can break a person. Instead of suffering in silence, why not share it…?”

Hearing this, the Dark Specter nodded. He paced with his hands behind his back, his head lowered. ”The truth is, even though Jingjing’s mother and I have been married for many years, we’ve never once had a conjugal life…”

Zhao Rong was stunned. ”If you love each other and are married, why wouldn’t you? Principal, are you gay? Or perhaps your wife only likes women?”

The Dark Specter continued, ”It’s all because of that damned marriage contract. Before we got married, Jingjing’s mother and I signed a contract that clearly stated ours would be a sexless marriage.”

Hearing the term ”sexless marriage,” Zhao Rong was baffled. ”Sex is the most wonderful, loving gift God gives to a married couple. If you’re both normal, why on earth would you sign such a terrifying, bizarre, and utterly pointless contract before getting married?”

The principal, the Dark Specter, complained as he recalled the substantial research breakthroughs and valuable academic patents he had secured after his marriage. ”When we were young, Jingjing’s mother and I were both top scholars. We were willing to give up everything for the sake of our studies and research. We were drawn to each other because of our shared interests, and we even secretly pledged our lives to one another. But for two academics like us, research requires undivided attention, free from any distractions or disturbances. So, to better focus on our work without interfering with each other and to avoid any entanglements, we signed a contract for a sexless marriage in front of a lawyer.”

Zhao Rong scratched the back of his head as he listened. ”So, just because you signed that contract, you both strictly stuck to it? You never had relations, not even once, in all these years?”

The Dark Specter nodded gravely. ”Yes. After we married, we lived in separate rooms. We studied and researched together during the day and slept apart at night, all for the sake of achieving our individual academic dreams.”

At that moment, Mage Yizhen chimed in from the video call, ”Although the Dark Specter had no conjugal life during his more than ten years of marriage, he still managed to derive Einstein’s energy equation and prove Goldbach’s conjecture. An achievement like that is unparalleled, not just in Xijing City, but even among experts worldwide. He reached a height that ordinary people could never hope to attain.”

Then, the Dark Specter sighed deeply, his voice filled with regret. ”Although I reached the pinnacle of my academic research, right at that peak moment in my life, my wife—Jingjing’s mother—suddenly became pregnant.”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong was so shocked he fell right onto his bottom. ”Principal, didn’t you say you and your wife never had a conjugal life? Then how did she get pregnant?”

Tears suddenly streamed down the principal’s face. ”A man can endure loneliness. He can… relieve his stress and desires. But a woman? She might not be able to bear that loneliness.”

Upon hearing this, Zhao Rong completely understood. He thought of Jingjing, with her big eyes, high-bridged nose, thin lips, and stunning beauty. Then he looked at the principal before him—with his small eyes, flat nose, thick lips, and sleazy, unattractive features—and realized the two looked nothing alike.

Zhao Rong sighed in pity for the principal. ”You really shouldn’t have given up your marital life for your career.”

The principal was so filled with regret he felt like his insides were being torn apart. ”If I had known when I was younger that marriage and family are more important than a career, I would never have sacrificed them.”

As this sank in, Zhao Rong was suddenly struck by an intense curiosity. If Jingjing isn’t the Dark Specter’s child, then whose child could she be?

The Dark Specter continued, ”I have two great regrets in my life. The first is sacrificing my marriage and family for my career. The second is the man who cuckolded me. That man took advantage of my being away for academic research, working hard on my career, to seduce my wife. He gave her what she craved: the physical intimacy between a man and a woman.”

Hearing that the principal knew who had cuckolded him, Zhao Rong shot to his feet. ”Principal, since you know who the man is—the one who slept with your wife and ruined your family—did you kill him?”

At these words, the principal suddenly snatched the longsword from the ground, furiously stabbed the nearby Toad Demon’s corpse twice, and roared with laughter, ”For a passionate man like me, of course I’d kill him!”

From the WeChat video, Mage Yizhen said, ”The man who cuckolded the principal and slept with his wife is none other than this creature on the ground, the now-deceased Toad Demon.”

Zhao Rong was utterly astonished, his mouth hanging open. He glanced from the principal to the Toad Demon on the floor, saying in disbelief, ”Principal, the reason you killed the Toad Demon wasn’t because he tried to usurp your position or put a curse on you, but because he stole your wife and destroyed your family?”

Hearing this, the principal said indifferently, ”Some things are tolerable, but others are not. I could bear someone trying to take my position or curse me. After all, fame and fortune are fleeting things you can’t take with you when you die. But when it comes to my dearest wife, the woman for whom I would die, I absolutely cannot tolerate her being seduced and defiled by another. That’s why I had to kill the Toad Demon.”

Listening to the principal’s words, Zhao Rong finally understood. So, the man who cuckolded the principal was the Toad Demon right in front of them. The principal had endured his humiliation, lying in wait in the abandoned library beneath the laboratory building for ten years, all for the chance to exact his revenge.

Although Zhao Rong now understood the motive, he found himself even more confused. He looked at the dead Toad Demon and asked, puzzled, ”Principal, I really don’t understand. How could your wife fall for a Toad Demon? Besides, if the Toad Demon slept with your wife, does that mean your beautiful daughter, Jingjing, is actually his daughter?”

The Dark Specter nodded, then shook his head. ”The Toad Demon was human before he turned thirty. After he seduced my wife and ruined my family, he entered the Ghost Hunting Academy to escape my pursuit. After studying and cultivating at the academy, he reached level 30. But even that wasn’t enough for him. He stole the Ghost Catching Taoist Priest’s secret manual and elixirs to continue cultivating in secret. However, due to his improper methods and incorrect use of the elixirs, the young man not only suffered a cultivation deviation but was also possessed by a toad in the Cultivation Cave, turning him into a half-human, half-toad monster.”

At this point, Mage Yizhen added from the video, ”When the man suffered a cultivation deviation and became the Toad Demon, he immediately came to Xijing University. Using astral projection, he possessed the body of Principal Dark Specter and audaciously took over his position, becoming the new principal of Xijing University. Meanwhile, the true principal, the Dark Specter, was consumed with revenge. He hid himself away in the abandoned library beneath the laboratory building, biding his time and cultivating furiously while he waited for an opportunity. Zhao Rong, it wasn’t until your arrival that the Dark Specter felt the time was right, that his chance for revenge had finally come. Fortunately, with your help, Principal Dark Specter successfully exacted his revenge. He reclaimed his body and returned to his former self—the hardworking, expressionless principal.”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong also suddenly understood why the Dark Specter chose to abandon his family, wife, and child to go to Ukraine and start a new life.

Zhao Rong looked at the Dark Specter and said, ”Principal, I think your wife must have known all along that the principal was the Toad Demon in disguise. As for why she never exposed him, I suppose she preferred him over you.”

The Dark Specter nodded. ”Women are different from men. A man can deeply love a woman but still cheat out of lust. But when a woman cheats, it’s because she has truly fallen in love with the other man. It doesn’t matter if he’s hideous, a Toad Demon, or even has other lovers at the university. She’ll still have him.”

Listening to the Dark Specter’s words, Zhao Rong felt a pang of sorrow. He knew the principal’s decision to leave his family behind and start anew in Ukraine was born of helplessness. In his wife’s heart, the Dark Specter who had vanished over a decade ago was long gone. All that remained was the Toad Demon.

Having figured everything out, Zhao Rong congratulated the Dark Specter. ”Principal, I hope you succeed in finding a beautiful foreign wife in Ukraine. I wish you your own family, your own children, and a warm, loving home to return to every day after work. Most importantly, make sure you have a proper marital life.”

The Dark Specter nodded and thanked him. ”Zhao Rong, thank you for helping me get my revenge.”

”Don’t mention it,” Zhao Rong replied politely. ”It was the right thing to do.”

The Dark Specter said, ”I’m leaving for Ukraine the day after tomorrow, so tomorrow I’m holding two major assemblies. The first is a general assembly for all faculty and students. I will announce that Zhao Rong has been appointed the new principal of Xijing University. The new vice principals have also been chosen: Miss Lili, Yu Lan, Xuelian, and Wang Meili.

”The second is the Xijing City shareholder meeting. I will inform all shareholders in person that one hundred percent of Xijing University’s shares now belong to this young security guard before you.”

At this moment, Zhao Rong suddenly thought of the Assistant. He asked the Dark Specter, ”Principal, what about the Assistant? You should give him a position, too.”

The Dark Specter paused for a moment. ”Since the Assistant has always been a custodian at the university, let’s just contract out all the janitorial work for the campus restrooms and buildings to him.”

Zhao Rong immediately protested, ”Principal Dark Specter, didn’t you say you’d make the Assistant an associate professor? Why are you putting him in charge of cleaning toilets now?”
