Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

At that moment, just as the Black Spirit was preparing to confess everything, the assistant suddenly felt the zombie poison inside his body intensifying rapidly!

In unbearable pain, the assistant suddenly remembered the secret cure the Black Spirit had told him about: if he had relations with the Mermaid, the zombie poison in his body would naturally disappear.

And so, with the zombie poison flaring up, the assistant could no longer hold back. He dove headfirst into the pool.

When the Mermaid in the pool saw a man finally enter, she joyfully lunged toward him. ”I have waited for this moment for so long,” she said. ”Today, my wish is finally granted...”

With that, the assistant and the Mermaid coupled within the pool. The water splashed violently, waves rising and falling, and the sound of slapping water was incessant.

Three minutes later, the assistant shivered and climbed out of the pool.

Upon exiting, he immediately vomited on the ground. ”As long as it cures the zombie poison in my body,” he said, ”I can endure being with such a disgusting Mermaid...”

After speaking, the assistant stood there, expecting the zombie poison in his body to be completely cured.

However, as the assistant stood waiting, the Black Spirit turned to look at the drenched assistant and immediately apologized. ”Assistant, I’m sorry. I lied to you...”

The assistant froze, staring at the Black Spirit in shock. ”What do you mean?”

The Black Spirit sighed. He glanced at the Mermaid in the pool, who was preparing to give birth, then turned back to the assistant. ”I tricked you into coming here, but not to cure your zombie poison. In fact, even after having relations with my daughter, the Mermaid, the zombie poison in your body still cannot be cured.”

Hearing that the Mermaid was the Black Spirit’s daughter, Zhao Rong’s head snapped around to face him. ”So, you’re that professor from all those years ago? The one who experimented with human and fish essence, failed, poured the liquid embryos into the sewer, and then accidentally succeeded?”

The Black Spirit nodded. ”Yes, you’ve guessed correctly. I am that professor. All the Mermaids in the sewers were propagated from my essence and the essence of a single fish. I just never imagined that the experiment I thought was a failure would naturally succeed in the sewers of Xijing City...”

Hearing that being with the Mermaid wouldn’t cure his zombie poison, the assistant flew into a rage. ”If it couldn’t cure me, then why did you trick me into coming here to mate with this Mermaid?”

The Black Spirit looked at the Mermaid in the pool, speaking as if a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders. ”Because my daughter is about to die. As the last Mermaid in Xijing City, she had an incredibly strong desire to continue her lineage. She wanted to give birth to more Mermaid babies before she passed to carry on the family’s genes. However, because her body was already decaying, she couldn’t find any man willing to mate with her. That’s why I deceived you into coming here to have relations with my daughter.”

Hearing this, the assistant charged forward to beat the Black Spirit. But just as he raised his fist, the Mermaid in the pool suddenly gave birth. The mother Mermaid had delivered hundreds of tiny Mermaids, each one swimming joyfully in the pool like a little tadpole.

The assistant suddenly lowered his fist. He stared at the tiny Mermaids swimming playfully in the pool and said in disbelief, ”Impossible! Human gestation is nine months! Even the fastest-breeding creatures need at least a month. How could this Mermaid use my essence to spawn so many little Mermaids in just a few minutes?”

The Black Spirit explained, ”This is all the result of natural selection, survival of the fittest, and genetic mutation...”

Just then, seeing that she had fulfilled her great purpose of continuing her lineage, the mother Mermaid slowly closed her eyes and took her last breath.

When Zhao Rong saw that the mother Mermaid had died, he urgently asked the Black Spirit, ”Black Spirit, we followed you here to get the antidote for the Dawn Poison! We haven’t gotten it yet, so how could the Mermaid just die?”

Hearing this, the Black Spirit explained, ”Zhao Rong, I’m sorry. I lied to you, too. In truth, this Mermaid never had any antidote for the Dawn Poison...”

At these words, Zhao Rong’s thoughts suddenly turned to his master, Mage Yizhen. The only reason I came to the Xijing University laboratory library and encountered the Black Spirit was because of information from Master Yizhen. As a grandmaster, and as my master, he couldn’t possibly have lied to me, could he?

Just as Zhao Rong was puzzling over this, the Black Spirit took a photograph from his pocket and handed it to him. ”To tell you the truth, your master, Mage Yizhen, and I were in the first batch of students at Xijing University. We weren’t just classmates; we were roommates, best friends, and even sworn brothers...”

Zhao Rong’s eyes widened when he heard his master, Mage Yizhen, was sworn brothers with the Black Spirit. I never thought Master Yizhen would tell me a white lie. It turns out he had an ulterior motive. He told me to find the Mermaid to get the antidote for the Dawn Poison, but what he really wanted was for me to help the Black Spirit fulfill his daughter’s dream of continuing her lineage...

Zhao Rong sighed. ”So that’s how it is. The truth is finally out... But, Black Spirit, since I helped you realize your daughter’s dream, you should help me in return. Cure the assistant’s zombie poison, and then cure Miss Lili of the Dawn Poison.”

The Black Spirit nodded and pulled a white container from his pocket. ”Don’t worry, I will help you. Just wait a moment while I gather all these little Mermaids into my container.”

As he spoke, the Black Spirit took out a ladle, scooped all the tiny Mermaids out of the pool, and poured them into his glass container.

When Wang Meili saw the Black Spirit funneling so many little Mermaids into such a small container, she asked in surprise, ”Black Spirit, is your bottle really big enough for all of them?”

After placing all the little Mermaids inside, the Black Spirit gently secured the lid and said with a sigh of relief, ”Don’t underestimate this glass container. It may look small, but its interior space is actually an ocean.”

Hearing that the unassuming little bottle in the Black Spirit’s hand actually contained an entire ocean, Zhao Rong and Wang Meili were stunned speechless.

Zhao Rong pictured a vast, azure ocean in his mind. ”Black Spirit, if the little Mermaids can live in an ocean, they will surely thrive and grow into beautiful adult Mermaids.”

Wang Meili also imagined the tiny creatures transforming into stunningly beautiful adult Mermaids. ”If one day we see Mermaids in the ocean, we won’t be surprised. Especially if we notice they look a lot like the Black Spirit. We shouldn’t be surprised in the slightest, because we’ll know they’re all his granddaughters.”

Just then, the assistant, who had been lying on the ground, suddenly sprang to his feet. He had completely transformed into a zombie. He raised his arms, opened his mouth wide to bare his zombie fangs, and began hopping about erratically, trying to bite anyone he could.

Seeing the zombie poison had completely taken hold of the assistant, Zhao Rong reluctantly picked up a brick. Looking at the assistant hopping toward him, he said, ”Forgive me, Assistant. I really don’t want to hit you with this, but if I don’t, you’ll bite others. You must sacrifice yourself for the greater good.”

With that, Zhao Rong leaped high, brick in hand, and smashed it down hard on the assistant’s forehead. The once-lively assistant’s eyes rolled back, his hands fell, and he crumpled to the ground like a noodle.

Seeing the assistant was taken care of, Zhao Rong said urgently, ”Black Spirit, we have to go back right now to save the assistant and Miss Lili!”

Wang Meili anxiously chimed in, ”Black Spirit, how are we going to save them? Do you have a detoxifying Elixir?”

At her words, the Black Spirit crouched and grabbed the assistant’s legs. ”I don’t have any Elixirs,” he said as he began to lift the body, ”but I can help Zhao Rong refine the Congo Pill to cure the zombie poison and the Malon Elixir to cure Miss Lili of the Dawn Poison.”

Zhao Rong frowned upon hearing the names of the Congo Pill and the Malon Elixir. ”But to refine those two Elixirs, one must be a Level 27 cultivator or higher. Otherwise, it’s impossible to succeed.”

The Black Spirit sensed Zhao Rong’s cultivation level. ”No problem. You’re a Level 25 cultivator, just two levels shy of Level 27. I’ll help you level up.”

Hearing that the Black Spirit intended to help Zhao Rong level up, Wang Meili said incredulously, ”Black Spirit, who do you think you are? You want to help Zhao Rong level up? We just finished beating you senseless! How can a weakling like you possibly help a strong cultivator like him?”

In response, the Black Spirit struck a White Crane Spreads Its Wings pose. ”Actually, I’ve been putting on an act this whole time. Like your master, Mage Yizhen, I, the Black Spirit, am also a high-level cultivator.”

The Black Spirit did say that he and Master Yizhen were among the first top students at Xijing University. Since Master Yizhen is a Level 29 cultivator, it stands to reason that the Black Spirit is at least Level 29 as well.

So, Zhao Rong asked, ”Black Spirit, what level cultivator are you?”

The Black Spirit’s expression turned serious, his gaze resolute. ”My cultivation level is very high. I’m afraid if I told you, it would scare you to death.”

Zhao Rong and Wang Meili looked at the unimpressive, boastful Black Spirit before them and demanded in unison, ”Spit it out! What level?”
