Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

When the assistant felt a cold hand land on his shoulder from behind, he shivered and chuckled, ”Who’s playing jokes in the secret chamber? Get your hand off me…”

Just then, Wang Meili pointed in shock at something behind him. ”Assistant, behind you… there’s… there’s something…”

At her words, the assistant reached out with his right hand, grabbed the clammy hand on his left shoulder, and said, ”I knew it. You’re all trying to scare me, so you got a prop hand and put it on my shoulder, didn’t you?”

Seeing the assistant casually grab the zombie’s hand, Zhao Rong’s eyes widened. He whipped the Peach Wood Sword from his waist and yelled, ”Assistant, run! There’s a zombie behind you!”

The assistant hadn’t even processed the word ”zombie” before the Black Ghost was the first to bolt.

Seeing him run, Wang Meili quickly grabbed his clothes. ”Black Ghost, you’re a ghost. Are you actually afraid of zombies?”

The Black Ghost’s face was a mask of terror. ”I’m just cursed! My soul is trapped in another person’s body! I’m not really a ghost—I’m just a dwarf...”

When the assistant finally heard there was a zombie behind him, he whipped his head around to look. It was a glance he would instantly regret. He saw it—a terrifying, blue-skinned face with ferocious fangs, less than ten centimeters from his own. He shrieked and leaped into the air.

As he scrambled away, he yelled, ”I’ve been watching *Zombie Hunter Mao Xiaofang* since I was a kid! How did I run into a real one today?!”

However, he had only taken a few steps before the zombie lunged and seized him from behind. After grabbing the assistant, the zombie sank its fangs into his neck and bit down hard.

Just then, Zhao Rong charged forward. He thrust the Peach Wood Sword into the zombie’s chest and followed up with a powerful kick, sending the creature flying off the assistant.

Once the zombie was kicked away, the assistant gasped in relief. ”Zhao Rong, thank god you were so quick! Otherwise, I’d be zombie food by now…”

Chuckling to himself, the assistant thought, Heh, lucky me. I’m blessed with great fortune and a strong fate. If I’d really been bitten by a zombie, wouldn’t I have turned into one myself?

Just as the assistant was snickering, Zhao Rong noticed two distinct bite marks on his neck.

At that moment, Wang Meili also rushed over. Staring at the marks, she said in alarm, ”Assistant, how could you be so careless? You let it bite you!”

Hearing her words, the assistant immediately felt his neck. He patted it all over but found no trace of any bite. He then laughed. ”A man as lucky as me, your trusty assistant? How could I possibly get bitten by a zombie?”

Right at that moment, the Black Ghost leaped forward, whipped a talisman out from his robes, and slapped it onto the assistant’s forehead. ”Anyone bitten by a zombie will turn into one within twenty-four hours and attack us!”

Seeing the talisman on his forehead, the assistant immediately tore it off. ”What is this crap?” he said dismissively. ”What kind of joke is this?”

Seeing that he didn’t believe he’d been bitten, Wang Meili took out her phone, snapped a photo of his neck, and showed it to him. ”Assistant, you should just put the talisman back on. It might delay your transformation...”

When the assistant saw the proof that he had indeed been bitten, he said in disbelief, ”How can this be? I, the assistant, have never even known the joys of a wedding night… I’ve never experienced the pleasures of romance! How can I be turning into a zombie now?”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong remarked dryly, ”Assistant, what about when you were at the True Martial Gate, visiting those inns in the nearby alleys? Or when you were a janitor at Xijing University, visiting the hair salons, clubs, and bathhouses in the urban village next door? And you still have the nerve to claim you’ve never experienced the so-called ’pleasures of romance’?”

His secret activities exposed by Zhao Rong, the assistant deflated completely. He lowered his head and whimpered, ”But I don’t want to become a zombie! Guys, I don’t want to die! Does anyone have a plan? Please, save me!”

Hearing his plea, the Black Ghost stepped forward and stuck another talisman to the assistant’s forehead. ”Keep this on. It can delay your transformation.”

The assistant suddenly started to cry. ”If I’d known this was going to happen, I would’ve watched more films and… taken care of business a few more times in my dorm last night!”

His will to survive surged, and he turned to the Black Ghost. ”Principal, do you have a way to save me?”

The Principal considered this for a moment, then turned aside and gave a small, dry heave. Looking back at the assistant, he said, ”The only way... is for you to have an… encounter… with that Mermaid we’re looking for in the sewers.”

The assistant cut him off immediately. ”An encounter? What kind of encounter? I don’t care! I’ll do anything, any position! Hell, I’ll even lick her… as long as I don’t turn into a zombie!”

The Black Ghost gave him a thumbs-up. ”My friend,” he said, full of admiration, ”in all my years, I haven’t been truly impressed by anyone. But hearing you say that today… I have to respect it. I respect you so much I could prostrate myself before you, feet in the air. That’s some next-level, shameless respect.”

The assistant talks a big game now, the Black Ghost thought. But when he really encounters this so-called Mermaid in the sewer, we’ll see if he can still bring himself to do it. We’ll see if he can open his mouth, let alone use his tongue.

Hearing that there was still hope, the assistant said excitedly, ”Black Ghost, take all the talismans you have that can delay the transformation and stick them all over me! Then let’s go find that Mermaid in the sewer right now! I need to have a… special relationship with her!”

Hearing that the assistant wanted all of his talismans, the Black Ghost was momentarily stunned. He then took out over a thousand talismans from his bag, looked at the assistant, and asked, ”Are you sure you want to put all of these on?”

The assistant nodded, rushed forward, and began grabbing the talismans from the Black Ghost’s hands, sticking them all over himself. ”It’s fine, just keep sticking them on me! As long as it delays the transformation and gives us enough time to find the Mermaid!”

The Black Ghost sucked in a sharp breath. He looked at the assistant and said, ”My talismans have to be applied directly to the skin, not to clothes. If you want to use all of them, you’ll have to take off all your clothes so I can apply them.”

The assistant froze. Stripping naked wasn’t exactly dignified, but to save his life, he stripped down until he was completely bare.

Seeing the assistant standing there naked, with everything exposed, Zhao Rong’s eyes widened. ”Principal,” he said to the Black Ghost, ”isn’t this a bit much?”

The Black Ghost just chuckled. ”Don’t worry. I happen to have a rather large talisman right here. We’ll just stick it… down there.”

With that, the Black Ghost proceeded to stick the thousands of talismans all over the assistant’s body. Soon, the assistant was completely covered from head to toe in yellow paper talismans.

Finally, the Black Ghost took a diaper out of his bag. ”This is the last talisman. Assistant, put this on.”

The assistant’s eyes widened when he saw the diaper. Covering his privates with his hands, he asked, ”Black Ghost, are you sure this diaper is also a talisman?”

Holding the diaper, the Black Ghost said with a wry smile, ”Oh, it’s a talisman, alright. It’s just one designed for infants. But given the special circumstances, you’ll have to make do.”

With that, the Black Ghost executed a scissor kick, sweeping the assistant off his feet. Then, in the blink of an eye, he had the diaper securely on him.

Once the job was done, the Black Ghost let out a long sigh. ”For so many years, I, the Black Ghost, worried that I’d never get to use up all these handmade talismans. Today, they’ve all finally found a purpose.”

With that, the Black Ghost led them toward the end of the secret chamber. ”Everyone, follow me. Walk like a cat and don’t disturb the corpses on either side. Otherwise, they might reanimate and turn into revenants or zombies.”

Hearing that there were more potential zombies nearby, Wang Meili began to tremble with fear.

Zhao Rong quickly pulled Wang Meili into his arms to protect her. ”Meili, don’t be afraid. As long as I’m here, I will absolutely keep you safe.”

Nestled in Zhao Rong’s embrace, Wang Meili was filled with an unprecedented sense of security. She snuggled happily into his chest and said flirtatiously, ”Zhao Rong, just hold me like this and never let go. As long as your broad shoulders are around me, I won’t feel scared at all.”

When the Black Ghost and the assistant saw Zhao Rong and Wang Meili’s public display of affection, the two men couldn’t help but exchange a meaningful glance.

The assistant immediately sidled up to the Black Ghost, leaning on his shoulder. ”Master,” he said, ”my life is in your hands now.”

The Black Ghost threw a protective arm around the assistant, puffed out his chest, and declared, ”As long as my talismans are on you, your safety is guaranteed!”

Hearing this, the assistant blissfully closed his eyes. Even though I was bitten by a zombie, he thought, the Black Ghost is helping me with these talismans. I’m sure I can turn this disaster into a blessing and escape the danger.

Just as the assistant was getting emotional in the Black Ghost’s embrace, the Black Ghost pointed to a nearby manhole cover. ”If we open that and go down, we can get into the main sewer line for Xijing University.”

Curious, the assistant walked over to the manhole cover, grabbed the handle, and pulled it open. As he did, he thought, I was already unlucky enough to fall into this secret chamber from above. My luck can’t be that bad again, right?

The moment that thought crossed his mind, a powerful gust of wind erupted from the open sewer. In an instant, every single talisman was blown clean off his body, leaving him wearing nothing but the diaper, still wrapped tightly around his waist.

Seeing the talismans vanish without a trace, the Black Ghost cried out in horror, ”Assistant, how could you be so careless?! Without those talismans, you’ll turn into a full-fledged zombie within five hours!”
