Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 993: Chapter 989: Outrageous News

Huo Sining was unaware of Zhou Zeping’s thoughts. After returning to Waseda University, it didn’t take long for her to return to her treasure-hunting state. She traveled to several other areas on Honshu Island, practically scouring the entire island.

In the midst of this, December arrived. She thought she would just drift until the New Year’s Festival in Dongdu, but before the festival, she received a call from Zhou Shitao. As soon as she answered, she heard Zhou Shitao’s urgent voice:

”Are you in Dongyang? Have you seen the recent news?”

Huo Sining was taken aback, ”What news?” Although she was abroad, she rarely bought Dongyang newspapers or magazines and never paid attention to Dongyang news.

Zhou Shitao, irritated, said, ”You don’t know? Fine, I’ll read it to you: The Watanabe Consortium in Dongyang recently discovered an ancient tomb in the development zone of Yoshida County, Osaka. After excavation, a complete set of gold-threaded jade clothing emerged! It’s the first time the Dongyang Empire has discovered gold-threaded jade clothing on the island. According to archaeologists, this set predates the first set found in Huaxia Country by several centuries. This major discovery will overturn history!”

After hearing Zhou Shitao finish reading the news, Huo Sining was completely stunned. She responded speechlessly, ”Gold-threaded jade clothing found in Dongyang? Are you sure this is not a joke?”

Zhou Shitao cursed, ”That’s what the news says. Can I joke with you? Damn it! These Dongyang folks are truly shameless!”

This was the first time Huo Sining heard Zhou Shitao use such foul language, indicating how angry he was.

Thinking that Dongyang could also unearth gold-threaded jade clothing, Huo Sining was full of doubts and couldn’t help but ask, ”Which newspaper published this news? I’ll buy a copy too! And what’s with this gold-threaded jade clothing, could it be...?”

Huo Sining remembers clearly that back at the Tengchong Black Market, Watanabe Yasu bid a high price of 210 million in a bid to outbid her for a set of gold-threaded jade clothing, eventually forcing her to bid 500 million to shock Watanabe Yasu.

That set of gold-threaded jade clothing, freshly unearthed from the black market, was eventually safely sent back to the Forbidden City in the Imperial Capital by Qin Lianshan’s people. Experts from the Forbidden City later confirmed through research that the owner of the gold-threaded jade clothing was Gouyi Jieyu, Emperor Wu of Han’s concubine.

Gouyi Jieyu was the mother of Liu Fuling, Emperor Zhao of Han. After establishing Liu Fuling as the crown prince, Emperor Wu ordered Gouyi to be executed.

This might be considered an absurd event, but it’s actually not hard to understand.

In fact, during the Southern and Northern Dynasties, in Beibei Wei, it became customary to establish a son and kill the mother.

With the precedent of Lü Zhi, Emperor Wu of Han was naturally much more cautious in establishing a crown prince. After establishing Liu Fuling, he executed Gouyi merely to balance the pros and cons and prevent female dominance in politics.

This history invisibly added several times the value to the gold-threaded jade clothing, and although Huo Sining spent 500 million on it, its current value far exceeds that amount.

Of course, the value is secondary; the most important thing is the historical information it contains. However, now seeing this Dongyang news, Huo Sining couldn’t help but worry that the artifact she painstakingly bought could also be stolen by Dongyang people from the Forbidden City.

Can’t blame Huo Sining for overthinking. It’s notable that the main subject of this news that Zhou Shitao mentioned is none other than the Watanabe Consortium, where Watanabe Yasu’s family is. Given Watanabe Yasu’s relationship with Old Mr. Zhong, and his obsession with the gold-threaded jade clothing, he could very well pull such a stunt.

Moreover, Huo Sining often found news online about artifacts being stolen from the Forbidden City, so she harbored a bit of doubt and distrust in the Forbidden City’s security system.

Zhou Shitao naturally understood what Huo Sining meant and frowned, ”I’ll ask Elder Huang about this later.”

He tapped on the newspaper on the table, still filled with righteous indignation, ”These Dongyang people are utterly shameless. Look at this message, they don’t even know where they got a set of gold-threaded jade clothing, specifically found someone to create an ancient tomb, and then flagrantly orchestrated an archaeological team to deceive the public into thinking the gold-threaded jade clothing was indeed unearthed from the tomb. They are putting on an act, yet they even claim our history books are fake!”

Huo Sining was secretly shocked, surprised that the Dongyang people could do something so absurd, yet puzzled that the media couldn’t see how bizarre and illogical this situation was.

Huo Sining hurried out the door, bought a copy of the newspaper Zhou Shitao mentioned from a nearby newsstand. The newspaper called ”Morning Reading” is one of the largest papers circulated domestically in Dongyang. After obtaining it, she quickly searched for the news Zhou Shitao mentioned.

The news was a headline item, very conspicuous. Huo Sining easily found it on the first page, with a large bold title reading: Ancient Tomb Reveals Gold-Threaded Jade Clothing, East Asian History to be Rewritten!

The news itself wasn’t long, barely a thousand words, but the font was large, covering the entire story of Japan unearthing gold-threaded jade clothing, along with the Watanabe Consortium’s archaeological work and its commendation by Dongyang’s hawks for acquiring this priceless treasure.

Below this report was an archaeological photo spanning half a page. The picture wasn’t very clear, but it was evident from the image that a human-shaped gold-threaded jade outfit was excavated from the ancient tomb.

After reading the news, Huo Sining felt a mix of amusement and exasperation, especially upon seeing the Watanabe Consortium’s name. She immediately recalled the bidding scene with Watanabe Yasu at the Tengchong Black Market. She was certain that this gold-threaded jade clothing event was orchestrated by that fool Watanabe Yasu.

Zhou Shitao called again that night to inform Huo Sining that the gold-threaded jade clothing in the Forbidden City was still there, allowing her previously worried heart to finally rest easy.

As long as the gold-threaded jade clothing in the Forbidden City hadn’t been swapped, it was fine. To Huo Sining, the Watanabe Group was nothing more than a bunch of clowns. Although she felt angry, she wasn’t a natural-born archaeology expert like Zhou Shitao, so even though she found the Dongyang people shameless, she didn’t let it really get to her.

However, Huo Sining soon discovered that she wasn’t able to stay out of it.
