Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 971: Chapter 967 Feng Family

Rolling the painting back up and putting it back in the box carefully, Su Qingqing watched Huo Sining’s cautious movements and couldn’t help but laugh, ”Why are you being so careful with just two fake paintings? Just throw them away, they’re nothing but two pieces of waste paper, not worth anything.”

Huo Sining’s forehead broke out with black lines, and she glanced up at Su Qingqing, her face unperturbed as she said, ”I got a wrong estimate, keeping them as a reminder, always reminding me of this lesson.”

Su Qingqing, hearing Huo Sining’s words, felt there was some truth in them, so she nodded and said, ”Then you should keep them.”

Huo Sining found it amusing, especially when she thought about the origins of this painting, leaving her unsure of how to express her feelings.

That day, the vendor put in a lot of effort to sell those two paintings without any signature.

Precisely because no one was interested in the paintings, the vendor tried hard to find a sucker who would buy them, using all his tricks to persuade Huo Sining to buy them, even including a pack of Jinsu Mountain Buddhist Scripture Paper.

If that vendor knew that his sixty thousand Dongyang Currency deal had directly resulted in a loss of millions of RMB, one would wonder what his expression would be. As the saying goes, losing the lady and also the troops, just like that.

As for why the wine-selling house near Zhu Suo Bridge ended up being released from Emperor Huizong of Song’s painting academy, and why there was no signature or inscription, Huo Sining was unaware. Her understanding of ancient paintings was indeed only superficial, so this mystery could only be solved by visiting her master in Imperial Capital.

Huo Sining stayed a day in S City, and the next day she flew to Jin City, and according to Feng Jinglin’s address, she found the community where Feng Jinglin’s mother lived.

This was a very old community, with low-rise buildings, the outer walls weathered, covered in moss and climbing vines. Huo Sining went up the dark corridor, reaching the doorway of 402 in Unit 7, hesitated for a moment, and knocked on the security door of the house.

The door was knocked on for a long time, but no one opened it. Huo Sining frowned instinctively.

Feng Jinglin hadn’t returned for several years, and Huo Sining didn’t know if Feng’s mother still lived here. Just as she was about to call Feng Jinglin for information, there was a sound of something falling from inside the house, and Huo Sining’s heart stirred as she couldn’t help but listen intently.

Her ear was pressed to the door, trying to determine if there was really any movement inside, but unexpectedly, the security door across suddenly opened.

A woman in her forties came out from that house. Seeing Huo Sining’s strange pose at the door, her face immediately changed, glaring coldly at Huo Sining, with a suspicious look, she questioned, ”Hey, what are you doing here!?”

Huo Sining realized her posture was somewhat inappropriate and hurriedly straightened up, her expression a bit embarrassed as she explained, ”Hello, is this Madam Feng’s house?”

The middle-aged woman took a few glances at Huo Sining, apparently judging from her attire that she didn’t resemble a thief, the suspicion in her eyes slightly dissipated, she nodded and said, ”This is Mrs. Feng’s house. What do you need her for?”

Huo Sining smiled slightly, seeming to try to look more natural, ”It’s like this, I just returned from Dongyang, Feng’s son asked me to bring some things to the Old Granny.”

The middle-aged woman was momentarily stunned by Huo Sining’s words, then a look of joy appeared on her face as she hurriedly grabbed Huo Sining’s arm, anxiously asking, ”You mean you have seen Jing Lin? Are you Jing Lin’s friend? Is he in Dongyang now? How’s he doing?”

Huo Sining’s arm was starting to hurt from being grabbed, forcing a bitter smile, ”Madam, can you please let go of my hand first? You’re asking so many questions at once, how can I answer them?”

The middle-aged woman then realized she had lost her composure and quickly let go of her hand, apologetically saying, ”I’m sorry, I just got a bit too excited hearing news about Jing Lin.”

Huo Sining, upon hearing this, became curious, ”You know Feng Jinglin?”

The middle-aged woman nodded with a smile, ”Yes, since I married my husband, we’ve always lived here. Our family lives opposite the Fengs and we’ve always had a good relationship. Jing Lin has always been an outstanding child and was a role model for our children. He often visited my house and liked the rice crust dish I made...”

Mentioning Feng Jinglin, the middle-aged woman had endless things to say, pulling Huo Sining into her nostalgic talk, her face full of memories.

Huo Sining felt a bit awkward; she wasn’t here to listen to these old stories, but to find Madam Feng. This woman kept talking, leaving her no room to interject.

Just when Huo Sining was about to turn again to knock on the Fangs’ iron door, the middle-aged woman’s phone rang, bringing her back to reality. Realizing her folly, her face turned red, and she looked at Huo Sining with an embarrassed laugh:

”Sorry, I’m a chatterbox, once I start talking, I can’t stop. You’re here to find Mrs. Feng, right? She’s not at home, she should be at the nursing home at this time, I’ll take you to find her!”

Huo Sining felt something odd. She pointed to Madam Feng’s door, puzzled, ”Is Mrs. Feng not at home? But why did I just hear some noise inside?”

The middle-aged woman seemed unsurprised, laughing, ”Mrs. Feng usually goes to the nursing home at this time to watch the elderly dance. If you heard something inside, it must be the cat she keeps making trouble at home.”

”Ever since Jing Lin left, Mrs. Feng has been living alone. Being elderly is quite pitiful; she’s deaf and relies only on companionship with the cat. Since you’re Jing Lin’s friend, can you persuade him not to argue with his mother and come back? About what happened back then, even though Mrs. Feng never said it, she actually already let it go. She can’t move on; only Jing Lin can’t.”

Huo Sining increasingly felt things were odd.

Back in Dongyang, when she heard from Feng Jinglin that he had an elderly mother in the country yet hadn’t returned for many years, she felt something was amiss.

Listening to the middle-aged woman now, she was even more puzzled.

Additionally, Huo Sining had just learned that Feng Jinglin’s mother was already deaf.

What really happened between Feng Jinglin and his mom that led him to such a point where he would leave his hometown and not dare to come back for years, not even to visit his elderly mother?

”Auntie, what on earth happened back then that made Feng Jinglin leave Huaxia and go to Dongyang alone?” Huo Sining finally couldn’t resist asking the curiosity in her heart.
