Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 972: Chapter 968 Old Newspaper

”You didn’t know?”

The middle-aged woman looked at Huo Sining with a strange expression, about to speak, but then seemed to think it inappropriate for an outsider like her to discuss such matters, so she abruptly stopped, gave a wry smile, and said,

”It’s something that happened many years ago. It’s all in the past now, so let’s not talk about it. As long as Jing Lin is doing well out there, that’s all that matters.”

Huo Sining felt increasingly puzzled, but since the middle-aged woman didn’t explain, she couldn’t keep pressing her for answers and had to bury her doubts in her heart.

Following the middle-aged woman to a nursing home not far from the community, she could see from a distance a group of elderly men and women singing and playing instruments in the courtyard, very lively.

”That’s Mrs. Feng,” the middle-aged woman pointed toward a corridor on one side.

Huo Sining quickly looked in the direction the woman was pointing, and upon seeing it, she felt a bit bittersweet.

An elderly woman with a head full of white hair and a desolate face sat alone on a bench in the corridor, her eyes fixed on the lively old men and women in the courtyard, occasionally showing an envious expression.

Huo Sining couldn’t help but sigh and walked toward the old lady.

The middle-aged woman stood still beside the old lady, and Madam Feng suddenly lifted her head. The middle-aged woman gestured a few signs to the old lady, whose expression immediately froze. She suddenly trembled and stood up from the bench, her eyes filling with tears, and walked straight toward Huo Sining, her lips trembling as if she wanted to ask something.

Huo Sining thought for a moment, took out a business card of Feng Jinglin’s from her wallet.

The old lady clutched the business card tightly in her hand, and before long, she was so emotionally overwhelmed that she squatted down, trembling and sobbing.

”She’s deaf and hasn’t spoken much over the years,” the middle-aged woman shook her head repeatedly as she saw Huo Sining about to comfort her, ”She’s been holding it in for so long, it’s good for her to cry and let it out.”

Huo Sining nodded in agreement. The old lady cried for a long time before gradually calming down, slowly standing up from the ground, holding onto Huo Sining’s hand, and kept gesturing.

Huo Sining couldn’t understand what the old lady meant, but could see the urgency in her eyes, so she looked questioningly at the middle-aged woman by her side, seeking an explanation.

The middle-aged woman looked around at the curious glances and quickly said, ”Let’s talk back at the house; this is not the place to talk.”

Noticing those exploratory gazes as well, Huo Sining nodded, and they helped the old lady back to the community.

As soon as they opened the door to Madam Feng’s place, a Scottish Fold cat dashed out, its big round eyes fixed on Huo Sining, seemingly wary of a sudden stranger in the home.

Once inside, Madam Feng no longer needed the middle-aged woman to translate, quickly entering a room to fetch an already yellowed sketchpad, picking up a pen to write swiftly.

Do you know Jing Lin? Where is he? Is he doing well? Why hasn’t he come back?

Seeing the old lady write several questions in a row, Huo Sining could discern the urgency and agony in her heart, hurriedly picking up the pen to write below:

”My name is Huo Sining, and I happened to meet Mr. Feng Jinglin while studying in Dongyang. Mr. Feng is now a renowned top lawyer in Dongdu and runs a large law firm there. He’s busy with work, so when I returned to the country, he asked me to come visit you.”

The old lady watched as Huo Sining wrote down such a long paragraph stroke by stroke, fearing missing any details she didn’t know.

After learning her son had become a top lawyer and opened his own firm, tears once again streamed down the old lady’s face, yet there was an involuntary hint of relief in her smile.

The middle-aged woman couldn’t help but smile too: ”Jing Lin was the top of the law school back in the day. At the time, he was determined to become an honest and rigorous top lawyer. I never thought after all these years, he still hasn’t given up on this dream and even succeeded!”

Huo Sining nodded: ”A while ago, a classmate of mine had wages delayed by an employer, and it was Mr. Feng who helped sue and successfully won compensation. Mr. Feng is very capable and a highly responsible good lawyer.”

The gaze of the middle-aged woman lingered on the old lady, sighing: ”It’s been so many years, hearing that he’s doing well would certainly make us happy. But for Mrs. Feng, it might not be so joyful, right? The son she raised with so much effort has gone abroad and never came back, leaving the elderly lady alone and lonely. Jing Lin really is too unfilial.”

Huo Sining couldn’t hold back any longer and looked at the middle-aged woman: ”Auntie, I consider Mr. Feng a friend, and I sincerely hope for them to reconcile this estrangement. But I still don’t understand what really happened between them to cause such a rift?”

The middle-aged woman saw Huo Sining staring at her with determination and knew she couldn’t brush her off any longer, finally sighing and going back to her house, finding an old newspaper from somewhere and handing it to Huo Sining.

”Take a look at this report first.”

The middle-aged woman pointed to a specific article, signaling for Huo Sining to read it.

Huo Sining looked down and saw a headline in bold: Shameless Homosexual Attempted Fraudulent Marriage, Son of C University Professor is GAY!

Upon seeing the news headline, Huo Sining was stunned, momentarily speechless, unsure of what to say.

Just from seeing the headline, Huo Sining understood most of it and could guess what had happened between the mother and son.

The article used the most outraged and disgusting words to describe how someone almost got deceived into marriage by a law school prodigy, and included a photo of this prodigy embracing and kissing another man on the side of the newspaper.

The photo was blurry, but it was still clear that the two kissing were tall and slender men.

This newspaper was from seven years ago. What Feng Jinglin was like seven years ago, Huo Sining did not know, but from the outline of the two in the photo, Huo Sining could not see any resemblance to Feng Jinglin.

Thinking back to the first time she met Feng Jinglin, with his neat suit and clean demeanor, a face full of humility and warmth, just like a well-mannered British gentleman.

Huo Sining absolutely could not have imagined that such a person who cared about quality of life, always with a charming smile, was actually GAY.
