Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 978: Chapter 974: Who’s Afraid of Who

Perhaps understanding the sarcasm and disdain hidden in Huo Sining’s eyes, Liang Pengzhi’s gaze flickered for a moment, and he turned his head guiltily, not daring to meet Huo Sining’s eyes.

Huo Sining sneered inwardly. Such hypocritical behavior from Liang Pengzhi made her despise him even more.

Thinking about how the Huang Family had mentioned that the Liang Family wanted to recognize her as their granddaughter, hoping Huo Sining would enter the Liang Family’s ancestral hall, and even several times sending the Liang Family’s eldest daughter-in-law and the Old Madame Liang to make a scene at her door, Huo Sining felt utterly fed up.

As for why the Liang Family would do this, Huo Sining knew their intentions well. If she didn’t have the three identities of Chief Lu’s goddaughter, Zhou Shitao’s closed-door disciple, and the Gu Family’s recognized future daughter-in-law, would the Liang Family people still be so persistent and enthusiastic towards her? The answer was naturally no. If that were the case, these people would most likely stay far away and step on her when she was down, throwing stones when she was in trouble.

Huo Sining was well aware of the Liang Family’s ways, so she wanted to stay far away from them, not wishing to have any ties with those bearing the surname Liang.

However, she hadn’t expected to run into Liang Pengzhi and his grandson at the Jubao Pavilion just after returning from Dongyang.

While Huo Sining silently glared at Liang Pengzhi from one side, Liang Junqi was fuming. She asked Huo Sining several questions, only to be completely ignored by her, making Liang Junqi feel humiliated. She then spoke harshly, ”Do you have any manners, not hearing me ask you questions? Is this shop yours?!”

Huo Sining turned her head to look calmly at Liang Junqi. ”Respect others and you will be respected in return. Miss Liang, you were the one threatening people first, and now you call others impolite. Is this the family etiquette Mr. Liang taught you?”

Liang Junqi’s face immediately turned red with anger. She pointed a finger at Huo Sining’s nose, ”You! Don’t go too far!”

Huo Sining gently pushed Liang Junqi’s finger away. ”Miss Liang, when you’re pointing a finger at someone else, don’t forget three fingers are pointing back at you. After all, you are a well-born lady of the Liang Family; don’t act like some coarse illegitimate child. Actions like that really are unsightly!”

Liang Junqi was so furious that her face alternated between blue and white, glaring angrily at Huo Sining as if fire could shoot from her eyes.

While saying this, Huo Sining’s gaze mockingly lingered on Liang Pengzhi. Especially when she mentioned the illegitimate child, she accentuated her tone. Sure enough, as soon as these words were said, Liang Pengzhi’s face changed suddenly, his eyes sharply scanning in Huo Sining’s direction.

Huo Sining wasn’t afraid of Liang Pengzhi. Seeing him quickly revert to his predatory nature, Huo Sining instead laughed happily, coldly gazing at Liang Pengzhi:

”Business is about mutual consent. Mr. Liang should understand this principle, right? If you’re unwilling to reveal the origin of those characters, then that item can’t be sold to you. Our shop values integrity; no matter if you offer double or ten times the money, that item won’t be sold, so don’t waste your efforts!”

Liang Pengzhi’s face froze, his lips moved as if to say something, but ultimately remained tightly shut, not uttering another word.

Huo Sining expected this outcome and was not annoyed. She just smiled slightly at Liang Junqi and said, ”Oh, wasn’t Miss Liang asking who owns this shop? What a coincidence, this shop happens to be an enterprise under my name, Huo Sining. Didn’t Miss Liang say you’d cause trouble for my shop? Please do! My shop is right here, it won’t run away; Miss Liang, come at us with all you’ve got!”

Liang Junqi was rendered speechless by Huo Sining’s words.

If this shop were owned by someone else, Liang Junqi might have had Liang Pengzhi make a phone call to shut it down, with the Industry and Commerce Bureau, Supervisory Bureau, and Police Station all rallying to ensure the shop couldn’t continue operating.

But she hadn’t expected this shop to be Huo Sining’s work. After the kinship recognition banquet, Liang Junqi already knew that this orphan, Huo Sining, had perched high, transforming from a sparrow into a phoenix. With Huo Sining’s current status, she, a mere member of the Liang Family, couldn’t confront her.

Liang Junqi held back her anger, feeling extremely unwilling inside, but not even given ten times her courage would she dare say anything further to counter such arrogance from Huo Sining. Her face tensed, fists tightly clenched, yet she had already caved in.

”Let’s go.” Liang Pengzhi, after all, was a man who cared about his reputation. Standing in this shop at his age, surrounded by people and feeling like a clown, embarrassed him. He hurriedly pulled Liang Junqi out of the store.

After exiting Jubao Pavilion, Liang Pengzhi couldn’t help but turn back, casting a glance at the young girl standing inside, a thought flashing through his mind. His eyes narrowed slightly, revealing an obscure expression.

Not until the grandfather and granddaughter duo disappeared into Liulichang did the faint smile on Huo Sining’s face gradually fade, replaced by a solemn expression.

She turned back, looking directly at Li Quan, ”Has that old man been coming to our shop often?”

Li Quan shook his head. ”Not often, he’s been here three times over the past half month.”

Huo Sining frowned slightly. ”Is he trying to buy the blue-covered book left by Madam Yan in our shop?”

Li Quan nodded. ”Yes, he’s asked about it three times in three visits. I explained the requirements clearly, but he wouldn’t take ’no’ for an answer. Just a book, if he knew its origins, he only needed to say so directly. Instead, he kept it hidden, pursuing the customer’s information, offering double the price. He tried all tricks yet refused to disclose the book’s origins. Quite strange.”

Huo Sining’s gaze narrowed slightly. She couldn’t help but ask, ”How did he find out there was that book in our shop? I remember that box was placed on the top shelf of the curio shelf. Did he head straight for that book upon entering, or did he find it by accident?”

Huo Sining suspected that Liang Pengzhi was here specifically for the Classic of Mountains and Seas, yet how would he know such a peculiar Classic of Mountains and Seas existed in her shop? Could it be that someone had tipped him off?

The first thought that crossed Huo Sining’s mind was Madam Yan’s unfilial grandchildren. But she quickly dismissed it. If Madam Yan’s grandchildren knew she had left something in the shop, they’d surely come causing trouble themselves, rather than indirectly inform Liang Pengzhi.

Huo Sining found it a bit perplexing, so she wanted to find out more details. But to her surprise, Li Quan gave this explanation.

”No, he probably stumbled into our shop unintentionally. At the time, Xiao Qin and I were sorting the shelves; Xiao Qin opened the box and took out the Cold Light Source Bead to clean it, and it just so happened that Mr. Liang saw it.”
