Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 977: Chapter 973 Liang Pengzhi

As a thought flashed through Huo Sining’s mind, she shivered, and her originally dazed brain instantly cleared up.

”Who’s there?!”

With a light shout, she quickly chased the shadow and ran into the back courtyard, pursuing it all the way to the north side, where she saw the shadow leap onto a section of the wall.

In a hurry, Huo Sining couldn’t help but shout, ”Uncle Tong, is that you?!”

The figure paused, slowly turned its head, but in the night, Huo Sining couldn’t see the person’s face, only those deep eyes filled with guilt, remorse, and an indescribable emotion.

Her heart trembled, and just as she wanted to ask another question, the person jumped off the wall and disappeared into the night.

The empty courtyard was swept by cold winds, and Huo Sining, with her mind in disarray, stood there dazedly for who knows how long before regaining her senses and slowly walking towards her grandmother’s room.

During the night, she had a mess of dreams, and upon waking from the nightmares in the morning, her mind was blank, unable to remember anything, and as she wiped her face, she felt the dryness at her eyes, her pillow soaked with tears.

She found it strange, puzzled by what kind of dream could have made her cry. As she tried to recall, nothing came to mind, so she simply let it go.

After breakfast, she received a call saying Madam Feng’s visa had been processed.

It had only been a day, so Huo Sining was somewhat surprised, having expected to spend at least a day in the Imperial Capital; she hadn’t thought it would be done so quickly.

She arranged a meeting place with the person, took a cab to where she had dined the day before, retrieved the special car from Jubao Pavilion, drove to the agreed location, and picked up Madam Feng’s visa and other documents.

She intended to express her gratitude, but the person refused to accept anything. After some thought, Huo Sining didn’t insist, deciding it was best for Gu Xu, given it was his connection, to handle any thanks.

She drove back to Jubao Pavilion, sat in the store for a while, and prepared to leave; unexpectedly, just as she was about to step out, someone walked in.

Initially indifferent, she handed the stack of books borrowed from Zhou Shitao to Jiang Xiaoqin, telling her to study hard, before getting ready to leave, when she heard Li Quan speak, sounding somewhat helpless: ”Elder Liang, how come you have time to visit today?”

Upon hearing the surname ’Liang,’ Huo Sining’s steps halted, and she instinctively looked at the person who had just come in.

The man seemed to be about sixty years old, dressed elegantly, clearly not an ordinary person, with many wrinkles and a seemingly amiable smile, yet his eyes were shadowed and his smile fake; from a face-reading perspective, such people are two-faced, greedy, and most ruthless.

After a few glances, Huo Sining felt his eyebrows and eyes were somewhat familiar, as if she had seen him before, though she couldn’t recall his identity despite her usually good memory.

While in doubt, the man sensed someone watching him, instinctively turning his head to meet Huo Sining’s gaze directly.

The old man couldn’t help but be stunned, his surprise fleeting, as his gaze swept over Huo Sining and returned to Li Quan: ”Mr. Li, is that item I looked at last time still here?”

Li Quan replied, ”Elder Liang, I’ve told you, the price is posted. If you want to buy it, you need to clarify the origin of the characters in this book first. That’s the consignor’s requirement, laid out in black and white in the contract. If we go against the owner’s wishes, we can’t keep our store open.”

The old man clearly felt a bit annoyed by Li Quan’s words: ”Tell me who the owner of that box is, and I’ll go talk to him myself!”

Li Quan’s smile faded: ”Mr. Liang, I’ve told you before, our store protects the consignees’ information, so please don’t waste your efforts.”

Just as the old man tried to say more, a young girl rushed in from outside, pulling the old man’s arm: ”Grandpa, what are you doing here? I’ve been searching for you. Come on, Douyuan’s about to start, let’s hurry over.”

With the girl clinging to him, the old man’s expression turned unpleasant, but he couldn’t rebuke her; instead, he said to Li Quan: ”Mr. Li, how about I offer double the price?”

Li Quan laughed: ”Sorry, Mr. Liang.”

The girl had intended to drag her grandfather away but stopped upon hearing Li Quan’s reply, curiously asking: ”Grandpa, what double price are you talking about? What are you trying to buy?”

Clearly, the old man didn’t want to disclose the matter to the girl in front of him, shaking his head dismissively: ”Nothing.”

The girl felt intrigued, her eyes turning, as she shook off the old man’s arm and rushed to Li Quan, coldly saying: ”Are you bullying my grandpa because he’s old and can’t argue back?!”

Her voice gaining intensity with each word drew people from outside the store, her face filled with triumph as she looked at Li Quan: ”You better be smart and sell that item to my grandpa, or I’ll make sure your store can’t continue today!”

Standing beside, Huo Sining had already figured out the old man’s identity; having disliked the Liang Family People, she now heard such threats, leading her to coldly laugh as she emerged from Jiang Xiaoqin’s side: ”Really? I’d like to see how Miss Liang plans to make my store unable to continue!”

Her words forced the young girl’s anger to surge, spinning around to start cursing, but stopped abruptly upon seeing Huo Sining’s face, asking with surprise and fear: ”Huo— what are you doing here?! Is this your store?”

Ignoring the girl’s questioning, Huo Sining focused her gaze on the old man.

This girl was the first Liang Family Person Huo Sining met after returning to the Imperial Capital and the same unlucky girl who caused trouble at Huo Sining’s recognition banquet in Chun Jing Garden, trying to steal her Tibetan Mastiff King Heitan, nearly getting herself killed by Heitan, Liang Junqi.

Since this girl was Liang Junqi, it was clear who she called grandpa.

Huo Sining’s gaze coldly fixed on Liang Pengzhi, her mind noting, so this was the man who abandoned his wife and children and brought his mistress into the mansion, the head of the Liang Family!
