Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 988: Chapter 984 The Sample Was Destroyed

Feng Jinglin is a lawyer, and what a lawyer is best at is catching details. Keen observation is an instinct. Even if he didn’t notice at first, along the way, Madam Feng’s unusual behavior made even the slowest person realize something was wrong.

In front of Madam Feng, Feng Jinglin didn’t dare to ask. Now that Madam Feng had gone upstairs, Feng Jinglin eagerly pulled Huo Sining aside to inquire about the situation.

Huo Sining didn’t hide anything and directly recounted what she heard from the neighbor opposite, and also shared Madam Feng’s current physical condition.

She knew clearly that since the Old Granny had arrived in Dongyang, Feng Jinglin would have to face these issues sooner or later. Instead of hiding them, it was better for him to know earlier and take measures to see how he could help the Old Granny open her heart. Perhaps once the psychological shadow was eliminated, the Old Granny would naturally recover.

After listening to Huo Sining, Feng Jinglin’s face turned pale and he sat dumbfounded on the sofa, not speaking for a long time.

In the end, he let out a hoarse low growl, burying himself in his hands, tears of regret streaming down, and his whole body trembled uncontrollably, murmuring:

”It’s me, it’s all because of me, otherwise she wouldn’t have suffered this much. I’m such an unfilial son. For so many years, she couldn’t hear or speak, she... how did she survive...”

As he spoke further, Feng Jinglin’s voice was trembling and cracked. He couldn’t imagine the life his mother had led in Huaxia for the past seven or eight years, nor did he dare to think. It was the sin he committed, yet he let his seemingly frail but inwardly gentle mother bear it. In the first few years, he even resentfully blamed her for not understanding him, hated her coldness and indifference.

Recalling these years of coldness towards his mother, not caring about her life, Feng Jinglin seemed to hear the sound of his heart shattering. He slowly reached out, tightly grabbing his hair, with his mind buzzing.

A voice constantly reminded him of how much of a jerk he was, over and over, clear and cruel.

The mistakes he made inflicted indelible harm on his mother. The harsh remarks of the townspeople and those disdainful and mocking glances must have inflicted both physical and mental agony on his mother. So she would rather close herself off, unwilling to listen or explain again, simply choosing never to hear or speak again.

Feng Jinglin didn’t know what language to use to tell his mother how much he regretted his actions back then.

”Since you regret it, don’t let the opportunity slip away again. You can still make amends. At least she is still here, and you can let her feel how much you love her. Don’t wait until she’s gone, and then you regret it. By then, I’m afraid it will be too late!”

Huo Sining also felt complicated, but as an outsider, she naturally saw things more clearly than Feng Jinglin, who was deeply involved. So she spoke to remind Feng Jinglin, trying to tell him that now was not the time for remorse. The immediate priority was to make amends.

”I’m leaving, there’s still work at the school. I’ll contact you later when I have time.”

Huo Sining stood up and walked straight out. When she reached the door, she turned back and said to Feng Jinglin:

”I’ve brought the person to you, treat her well, and make up for the seven or eight years you owe her. Don’t let her be disappointed with you again, then it will all be worth it!”

Feng Jinglin lifted his head and gave Huo Sining an awkward smile, full of gratitude and solemnity in his eyes: ”Thank you, Miss Huo Sining!”

Huo Sining waved her hand and walked straight out.

Soon after returning to Waseda University, Huo Sining received a call from an old professor at S University, asking where she was.

Huo Sining remembered this old professor as a well-respected figure in the College of Biology and one of the leaders of the Huaxia Koi research project. This time, he was in Dongyang to participate in an international student exchange to exchange and promote the research achievements of Huaxia Koi.

Before coming to Dongyang, the research institute hoped that during this exchange, Huo Sining could also assist the professors with their work. Huo Sining had no objections to this, as she indeed had a significant share in this research project and had to help where she could.

However, during this month in Dongyang, this old professor had never contacted her. Now out of the blue, he called her, sounding quite anxious, leaving Huo Sining puzzled, not knowing what was happening.

”Come to the school’s exchange hall once.”

The professor hurriedly said before hanging up the phone. Feeling strange, Huo Sining still went as instructed.

Upon arriving, she saw a bizarre scene. A group of Dongyang students and professors wore looks of disdain, while Professor Zhou Zeping stood in the center, filled with anger, seemingly wanting to refute but choked up, unable to utter a word. On the floor of the exchange hall, a fish tank was shattered, and two sample koi lay rigidly on the floor, apparently dead.

Noticing that there seemed to be campus reporters filming in the hall, Huo Sining involuntarily frowned, hurried forward, gently tugging on Professor Zhou’s sleeve, and asked softly: ”Professor, what’s going on?”

Professor Zhou was already fuming: ”We came here for an exchange, but the students at this school didn’t listen and even caused a ruckus. They kept insisting that our samples were genetically modified, were anti-science, and threw our samples on the floor. They also said they would resist our research outcomes, that our koi must not reach the market. This exchange just can’t go on!”

After hearing this, Huo Sining understood. This old professor is a technical expert in research but not good at arguing with people. How could he possibly win against many mouths?

However, regarding this Dongyang people’s rogue arguments, Huo Sining sneered.

In these people’s eyes, Dongyang Koi is the authority and their pride. Now, someone appeared with a better koi variety, making them realize a crisis, and of course, they would go to great lengths to resist, even wanting to kill it in its bud like Hattori Masano. If they couldn’t have it, they would destroy it.

Unfortunately, they didn’t catch the source at the beginning, and now it’s too late.

”We came here for exchange, but they are putting on airs and deliberately setting obstacles, clearly not wanting our koi to spread in Dongyang.”

Huo Sining sneered, raising her head to look at the few arrogant and dogmatic Dongyang professors.

”If they want to smash them, so be it. I’ve got plenty of samples. They can smash as many as they want.”
